Not Dead Yet was abruptly canceled after its second season, and we won't see the continuation of the fate of Nell, played by Gina Rodriguez, who can see the ghosts of those she writes obituaries for. It was a life-affirming project with a charming lead that didn't waste time setting up the plot and hit the ground running once the characters were introduced.
But all good things must come to an end, which is sad, because sometimes they end before their time. If two seasons of Not Dead Yet weren't enough for you, then we have the perfect replacement – and the main thing that connects these two projects is Gina Rodriguez in the lead role.

While studio executives are busy resurrecting once-popular shows that had everything from a multi-season storyline to a not-so-successful finale, projects with fresh ideas are being shut down after one or two seasons.
Often, the end of a series comes as a surprise even to its creators, let alone its audience. This was the case with Not Dead Yet – despite the entertaining premise, ABC canceled the show after the second season. Although the show did not become a hit, it gathered a loyal fanbase that refused to believe that a third season of Not Dead Yet will never hit the screens.
Of course, this is not the first time in the history of ABC that outstanding projects have had too short a life. But the most unfair case of cancellation happened thirty years ago.

Freevee has canceled its freshman comedy series Primo from Shea Serrano and Mike Schur.
The decision to pass on a second season came after lengthy deliberations. While the show’s fate was being decided, the options on the cast were extended twice with the second extension ending this month. As explained by a source close to production, the executives looked for ways to confirm a second season but were unable to do so.
Primo employed a large number of Latinos both in front of cameras and behind, a rarity that will continue to diminish as networks and streamers cut down and eliminate productions due to budgetary reasons amid an industry contraction. Another such series, ABC’s Not Dead Yet, was among the broadcast shows canceled at the end of this season. While neither of the shows was deliberately targeted, their cancellations are a setback for representation.

It’s sometimes sad to realize that the era of sitcoms has eventually faded away. Of course there are new ones produced, and people like them all, in general, but still the old but gold ones are getting more praise even years after they have been released.
Still, when ABC’s new sitcom Not Dead Yet premiered early in 2023 it made quite a statement on the channel. The ratings were good, and everybody loved the Gina Rodriguez-led and executive-produced comedy.
And what’s not to like? In the series written by Casey Johnson and David Windsor, the actress plays the part of a young woman named Nell Serrano, who finds herself single in this terrible world and is starting to worry that she is getting older.
She now has a goal: to start everything from scratch. But that’s going to be hard for her, because she herself describes her as a disaster,...

Episode eight of season two of Not Dead Yet ended with Nell and Tj breaking up. Nell shared her plans to freeze her eggs, while Tj revealed he had no desire to be a father. Lexi and Sam, on the other hand, were having a good time, as the latter had filed for divorce and wanted her best friend to have the time of her life. Edward found out that Duncan Rhodes was planning to sell the newspaper, and he was in a dilemma about whether he should share the news with Lexi.
Spoilers Ahead
What was the piece of news shared with Lexi and Nell?
Edward woke up Nell and Lexi early in the morning to share the most dreadful news he had come across. Nell had been Edward’s roommate, and Lexi and him had been together for a while. He finally revealed that Duncan was selling the newspaper.

Not Dead Yet was canceled after the second season, and this network's decision probably resonates with the impressions of most fans. While the first season drew viewers to their screens thanks to a successful mix of personal stories of the characters and a supernatural aspect with ghosts from obituaries, the second season disappointed many fans – it became a workplace sitcom and lost almost all of its charm.
But for Not Dead Yet fans, it's not time to get upset yet – because there is another sitcom about spirits that, let's face it, is superior to the series with Gina Rodriguez in every way. And this series is Ghosts.
What is Ghosts About?
The plot of Ghosts revolves around an old mansion that is unexpectedly inherited by the main characters – a couple from New York. The initial joy at the sudden gift of fate is replaced by an unexpected circumstance – the house...

After announcing what shows from its current roster have been renewed or canceled last week, ABC has revealed its full lineup for its Fall 2024 programming. As previously announced, unscripted programs Celebrity Jeopardy, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, Dancing With the Stars, American Idol, and more have been renewed for new seasons, though the latter will experience a big change when Katy Perry doesn’t return as a judge in its eighth season at ABC (23rd overall). To no one’s surprise, The Bachelor has also been renewed for Season 29. Shark Tank and What Would You Do? will also be coming back for more. As for its scripted programming, the Emmy-winning powerhouse that is Abbott Elementary will be back for Season 4 (it scored an early renewal in February), The Conners has been renewed for a seventh and final season, and Not Dead Yet was sadly canceled after two seasons. As previously announced,...

High Potential is one of the new titles joining the network this fall. It follows a single mom with an exceptional mind (played by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s Kaitlin Olson), whose unconventional knack for solving crimes leads to an unusual and unstoppable partnership with a by-the-book seasoned detective (Daniel Sunjata). Comedy has also long been a haven for ghosts. Not Dead Yet gained popularity thanks to its premise – the woman starts working as an obituary writer and begins to see the ghosts of the people she writes about.
Not Dead Yet Season 1 Was a Perfect Mix of Supernatural with Personal Stories…
Not Dead Yet followed the successful formula in its first season, which is why fans loved it – the characters were well thought out, their motivations were reasonable, and the ghosts were not just an enticing element for fans of supernatural projects, but actually enriched the story and moved it forward.

The 2023-24 TV season was different and difficult as the industry dealt with simultaneous strikes by writers and actors, followed by discernable Hollywood contraction. But these cuts hit some bone.
Although every development season results in the death of several series, the decision to cancel shows like So Help Me Todd came across as particularly cruel to their ardent fans – especially when it involves wiping away much-needed Dei casts and shows that still have some legs to continue (does the beloved Blue Bloods really have to wrap after 14 episodes to make way for “new” shows on CBS when NCIS is about to start its 22nd season?).
And even though series like Bob ❤️ Abishola, Station 19 and The Good Doctor had time to plan for the end, it’s still a lot harder to say goodbye to old friends than to welcome (formulaic) new ones.

There have been a lot of tough cancelations this month for the 2024-25 television seasons. Networks canceled beloved shows with big ratings, including shockers like Blue Bloods. Other shows were canceled with smaller viewer numbers, but in what were still favorites.
One of the shows that ABC has canceled falls into the latter category. Some fans argue it is causing an even bigger lack of diversity in an already generic TV schedule.
ABC Cancels Popular Latino-Led Sitcom
In a disappointing move, ABC canceled one of its most popular sitcoms. The network has announced that they canceled Not Dead Yet after two seasons on the air. This is an interesting move since the sitcom was the most-watched comedy on ABC in four years. However, the numbers dropped in Season 2 and ABC pulled the plug.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the two-part Not Dead Yet Season 2 finale, “Not the End Yet/Not a Ghost Yet.”] Not Dead Yet has been canceled at ABC after two seasons. The network announced the cancellation on Friday, May 10, a few weeks after the Season 2 finale. The charming workplace/supernatural comedy’s two-part season finale aired on April 24 and addressed the lore of its leading lady’s supernatural abilities. It also ended on a major cliffhanger, which will now be left unaddressed. Gina Rodriguez stars in the series as Nell Serrano, a print journalist on the obituary beat at a southern California newspaper who started being visited by the ghosts of her obit subjects her first day on this new job. Nell, a mess trying to get her life back together, has spent the last two seasons learning valuable lessons about not wasting the time you have from these ghosts and her living friends at work. So far,...

ABC’s Not Dead Yet is no longer living up to its title.
The network has canceled the comedy, which stars Gina Rodriguez, after two seasons. Not Dead Yet drew the smallest audience of ABC’s three half-hour comedies this season, averaging about 3.2 million viewers in Nielsen’s seven-day ratings (which don’t include streaming).
The cancellation leaves ABC with just two comedies on its 2024-25 schedule for the moment — Abbott Elementary, which is going into its fourth season, and The Conners, which is ending with its seventh. The network also has a pair of comedy pilots starring Tim Allen (Shifting Gears) and Ty Burrell (Forgive & Forget) but likely won’t make decisions on either one until after next week’s upfronts.
Created by David Windsor and Casey Johnson, Not Dead Yet stars Rodriguez as Nell Serrano, who takes a job as an obituary writer after her life falls apart.

“The Conners” has been renewed for Season 7 at ABC, which will also be the show’s last. In addition, ABC has canceled “Not Dead Yet” after two seasons.
The final season of “The Conners” will reportedly be shorter than past seasons, with sources saying it will run for just six episodes. ABC declined to comment on the length of the season.
“The Conners” originally debuted on ABC in 2018. It began as a revival of “Roseanne,” but following Roseanne Barr’s tweets about former Obama administration aide Valerie Jarrett, the revival was canceled. Not long after, it was announced the show would continue as “The Conners” without Barr, with her character being killed off in “The Conners” premiere episode.

It’s official: The Conners will be getting a proper goodbye. The Roseanne follow-up has been renewed for seventh and final season. As Deadline reported exclusively last week, the order is believed to be for six episodes, with the main cast, including John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert and Lecy Goranson, expected to return. The renewal took longer to finalize because dates for the cast, particularly Goodman, had to be worked out, I hear.
Along with the official renewal, ABC has released the first “farewell season” promo, which leans into The Conners‘ history that spans two shows. With The Conners recently airing its 100th episode, Roseanne becomes a rare comedy franchise to produce two series that have hit that milestone.
“You’ve been part of this family for years,” the promo says, mixing footage from The Conners with a couple of shots from Roseanne. “After 6 seasons, be there to say goodbye.

After two seasons, ABC has canceled the Gina Rodriguez-led and executive-produced comedy series Not Dead Yet.
Written by Casey Johnson and David Windsor, Not Dead Yet centers on newly single and feeling-old Nell Serrano (Rodriguez), a self-described disaster who works to restart the life and career she left behind 10 years ago. A once-successful journalist, Nell put her career on hold to help her fiancé get his restaurant off the ground. Following their breakup, she takes the only job she can get – writing obituaries – which at first seems like a step backward but ultimately might be exactly what she needs to move forward.
Hannah Simone, Lauren Ash, Rick Glassman, Joshua Banday, Angela E. Gibbs, Jesse Garcia and Brad Garrett also star.

Some of this TV season’s blood has already been spilled — looking at you, “NCIS: Hawai’i” — but as we head toward upfronts week, there are still a number of broadcast shows “on the bubble.”
But as the networks settle in on a diet of mostly stable franchises and fewer series pilots, there’s also less primetime schedule frenzy this year. The days before upfronts week which would normally mean a rapid fire few days of broadcast series renewals and cancellations announcements. But normal left the building a long time ago.
The broadcast network portion of upfronts has been so significantly pared down from years past that it hardly resembles what it used to be. These days, most of the broadcast networks announce renewals and cancellations well ahead of their actual presentations.
Take CBS, which has already announced its new fall and spring schedules as well as all of its renewals and cancellations.

One of TV’s most iconic families gets a chance to say goodbye.
Deadline reports that The Conners is nearing an official pickup at ABC for Season 7.
The caveat is that it would be the Roseanne follow-up’s final season of around six episodes.
A deal is still being ironed out but is expected to be finalized relatively soon. John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, and Lecy Goranson are among the cast members expected to return.
Many final seasons of long-running shows lose cast members due to the ever-increasing costs of making TV.
A consistent performer for ABC since it premiered, the show has much softer ratings than Roseanne – all following Roseanne’s controversial cancellation in 2018.

Not Dead Yet began as a high-quality soap opera. Although the topic of ghosts in TV series, even those not belonging to the horror genre, is not new, the writers of the show starring Gina Rodriguez managed to come up with a really catchy premise – the journalist starts writing obituaries and begins to see the ghosts of the people she writes about.
The first season immediately made thousands of viewers fall in love with the show. The fans praised Not Dead Yet for its light-hearted vibe, witty humor, and thought-out characters. Unfortunately, Not Dead Yet suffered the fate of many other shows – the second season clearly failed to live up to the high bar set by the first.
Not Dead Yet’s Season 2 Finale Became The Best Episode of The Whole Show
In the worst soap opera tradition, the characters' actions became unreasonable and the plot itself started to look more like a mess.

The same idea has already been a crucial part of another supernatural show from the 2000s, and many fans think it’s a big opportunity for a crossover.
Thanks to its compelling yet comedy-oriented plot, Not Dead Yet revives a good old cinematic tradition to push the real world and the beyond together in all the forms possible.
Though the show’s approach may be entirely renovated for the modern audience, the idea is in fact not — and some fans think that it may be a good reason for the Not Dead Yet plot diving into another story with a similar zest.
Not Dead Yet stars Gina Rodriguez as Nell Serrano whose dream of becoming a famous writer seems shattered by the reality where she calls off her wedding with a long-time boyfriend, comes back to Los Angeles after living in London for a long time and ends up writing obituaries.

A few years ago, talented journalist Nell Serrano gave up her career to follow the man she loved to London, but things didn't go as planned. Now, as a 37-year-old broke single woman, the main character is determined to start life with a clean slate and achieve career success.
She persistently tries to find a job in journalism, but the only position she is offered is as an obituary reporter. With no other offers, Nell gets to work, and then begins receiving advice from a strange source – the ghosts of the people she writes about.

CBS has canceled CSI: Vegas after three seasons and So Help Me Todd after two. The news is not surprising as Deadline revealed earlier this week that both dramas were heavily on the bubble and in grave danger.
That despite CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd being solid ratings performers. With the entire CBS schedule doing well this season and three new drama series joining in 2024-25, NCIS: Origins, Matlock and Watson (in addition to a second season of the Australian NCIS: Sydney), the network was faced with painful decisions, and So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas are the least watched CBS drama series this spring in both linear and multi-platform ratings.
In most current linear Nielsen viewership (2/12 to date), CSI: Vegas, which improved its time period, is at #21 among all non-sports broadcast programs with 6.234M viewers and So Help Me Todd at #22 with 6.224M. That is more...

Episode seven of season two of Not Dead Yet ended with Dennis prioritizing his family over exacting revenge on his ex-girlfriend, and as a result, the SoCal Independent lost the softball match against their biggest nemesis. Nell and Tj declared their feelings for each other during the match and agreed to date each other moving forward. Sam, on the other hand, was happy to be helping her friend. Lexi and Edward managed to break the ice and find comfort in each other.

Why was Nell at her gynecologist’s clinic?
Nell was at a gynecological clinic with the sole intention of freezing her eggs. This indicates that she wants to have children, and she was making this move for her future. She was followed around by the ghost of a writer whose obituary she’d been assigned to. Nell was confident about her move to freeze her eggs.

One of TV’s most popular families may soon be saying goodbye for good.
Currently in its sixth season, The Conners has yet to be renewed or canceled by ABC.
Deadline reports that the Roseanne follow-up has yet to begin negotiating deals with its stars, including John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, and Sara Gilbert.
The focus is renewal negotiations between the studio and the network to keep the show on the air for a seventh and final season.
The Conners rose like a phoenix out of the ashes of Roseanne, which was canceled despite a huge reboot season after leading lady Roseanne Barr’s controversial comments about Valerie Jarrett.
The series has been a strong performer for ABC, but could the show seriously be canceled ahead of a pre-planned final season?
The Conners remains a strong performer
