Review: Writer/director Laurence Vannicelli’s film Mother, May I? (watch it Here) has been described as a psychological thriller, but any genre fans who turn to this one hoping for heart-pumping scenes of thrills and scares won’t get what they’re looking for. This isn’t really the sort of movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat. While there are certainly moments where characters display strange behavior that might creep you out, for the most part Mother, May I? might be better described as a “psycho-drama”… and playing out all this drama allows lead actors Holland Roden and Kyle Gallner to turn the film into a great showcase of their skills.

Amanda Mackey, the casting director behind such films as Best Picture Oscar nominee The Fugitive and A League of Their Own and who earned an Emmy nom for The Normal Heart during a nearly four-decade career, has died. She was 70.
Her longtime friend and business partner Cathy Sandrich Gelfond told Deadline that Mackey died August 27 in her sleep of myelodysplastic syndrome, a form of blood cancer, at Calvary Hospital in Brooklyn.
“Amanda was a singular force — fiercely intelligent, impeccably stylish, wildly passionate about ideas, the state of the world and her work,” Sandrich Gelfond told Deadline. “She loved her daughters profoundly and was an unwaveringly steadfast friend and champion in a time when women weren’t as supportive to other women as they are now. She believed in me, lifted me up and gave me a career. She was the sister I never had and changed my life in countless ways.

Nahnatchka Khan could have another series coming to ABC.
The “Fresh Off the Boat” creator is an executive producer on a pilot called “Valley Trash,” which has been picked up at the Disney-owned network. A single-cam comedy, “Valley Trash” hails from “Speechless” writer Niki Schwartz-Wright and is set to star “My Name is Earl” alumnus Jason Lee in a lead role.
The prospective series revolves around the Harmans, a scrappy, blue collar family living in the deep Valley who suddenly experience a major culture clash when their fourteen-year-old daughter, Abby, gets accepted to a prestigious La private high school filled with students and parents who want nothing to do with her, her family or their 818 area code.
Lee will play the role of Cal, a Southern, charming, slightly rough around the edges father of two whose number one passion in life is being a great dad and a loving husband.

ABC has given a pilot green light to Valley Trash, a single-camera La private school comedy headlined and produced by former My Name Is Earl star Jason Lee, from Speechless writer-producer Niki Schwartz-Wright and Fresh off the Boat creator/executive producer Nahnatchka Khan.
Valley Trash, produced by Universal TV, where Khan and her Fierce Baby Productions are under an overall deal, and ABC sibling 20th Century Fox TV, was one of three hot ABC comedy scripts this season that quietly received cast-contingent orders by the network, along with Home Economics and Untitled Emily Kapnek/Dean Holland (aka Wild Child). "Did you get a makeover... or something?" Netflix has debuted an official trailer for an indie comedy titled Juanita, from actor / director Clark Johnson. This hasn't shown at any film festival, but they're releasing it straight to Netflix early next month. Fed up with her life, Juanita leaves her grown kids behind and hits the road headed towards Montana in search of a fresh start. Alfre Woodard stars as Juanita, with a full cast including Adam Beach, Gil Birmingham, Ashlie Atkinson, Marcus Henderson, & Blair Underwood. Doesn't look that great, but it does look like a fairly amusing reinvention film mixing things up. Might be worth a watch? Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Clark Johnson's Juanita, direct from Netflix's YouTube: Fed up with her deadbeat grown kids and marginal urban existence, Juanita (Alfre Woodard) takes a Greyhound bus up to Paper Moon, Montana where she ...

Real Madrid star and former Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo has set conquering the entertainment industry as his next goal with two new TV projects.
On Wednesday, it was announced that Ronaldo will follow in the footsteps of another sports legend, Tom Brady, with a series for Facebook Watch. However, unlike Gotham Chopra’s documentary “Tom vs Time,” this series will be scripted.
Written “Memphis Beat” duo Liz Garcia and Josh Harto, the untitled drama centers on a high school girls soccer team in upstate New York. Ronaldo will serve as executive producer on the series, which hails from wiip, the independent studio led by former ABC boss Paul Lee. The series is the second from wiip to score a series order from Facebook Watch, following the Catherine Zeta-Jones-led “Queen America.”

“In my free time, one of the things I like to do is to watch good television,” Portuguese national team player Ronaldo said in a statement. “To be the executive producer of this series is going to be an amazing experience, especially given the talent of the people who are working very hard to bring it to life. The story of my life has many similarities with the highs and lows the girls varsity soccer team will face in the series. While the series is set against the background of soccer, it goes much deeper than just the beautiful game. It’s about values, challenges, friendship, difficult times, hard work, solidarity, tensions, and harmony. In a word — it’s about life.”
The international football star has also teamed up with animation studio Graphic India and digital marketing and content management company Vms Communications to develop an animated series called “Striker Force 7,” which will star a cartoon version of Ronaldo himself.
Co-created by Graphic India’s Sharad Devarajan and Ronaldo, the character will also cross over into publishing, gaming, comics and digital content. No further details about the series were announced.

"Once Upon a Time" has found its Good Witch of the North -- with a name that is perfect for the part.
TVLine reports that Sunny Mabrey has been cast as Glinda, the nemesis of the Wicked Witch of the West in the "Wizard of Oz" canon. Whether Glinda and "Ouat's" Wicked Witch (Rebecca Mader) are bitter enemies in Fairytale Land remains to be seen -- you know how "Ouat" likes to play with its characters' traditional roles.
We wonder if Glinda will be in present-day Fairytale Land or if she'll be part of the Wicked Witch's flashbacks?
Before being cast on "Ouat," Mabrey's TV credits include "Memphis Beat" and "The Client List." She was also in "Snakes on a Plane."
"Once Upon a Time" returns from hiatus Sunday, March 9 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt on ABC.

There are a lot of things about my high school days that I enjoyed and that I love revisiting through memories and conversations, but to have gone back to do it all over again a year ago when I was 29 sounds like a pretty terrible idea. Then again, that might sound like a mini-vacation to some people. People like Leigh, Kristen Bell.s character in the upcoming comedic drama The Lifeguard, which will be the feature debut from director and screenwriter Liz W. Neither of those shows scream .introspective female maturation,. so Garcia.s talent goes untold, though the direction in the trailer appears fine. It’s been a long enough time since Memphis Beat was canceled; it’s time for Jason Lee to move on and find a new series to be a part of.
