Last month, non-profit group Good Energy launched what it called a Bechdel Test for Climate Change, a simple set of criteria designed to determine if it was clear climate change was present in a film. The real Allison Bechdel even endorsed it.
As part of the “Climate Reality Check,” just three movies nominated for Oscars this year passed the test’s two simple rules: “Climate change exists” and “a character knows it.” Now a more extensive study published by Good Energy and Colby College’s Buck Lab for Climate and Environment has analyzed 250 of the top grossing movies between 2013 and 2022 under the same criteria.
Global warming has been with us for a while now, but only 12.8 percent — 32 of the 250 films studied in that time span — even passed the first criteria saying that climate change exists. Only 24 films, or 9.6 percent, passed both criteria of the test.

Is there any current director who is more controversial than Zack Snyder? It’s wild how divisive a figure he is, with his fans nearly cult-like in their devotion, while his detractors are just as fervent. Here at JoBlo, we’ve always been ardent supporters, even if we haven’t unquestioningly praised all of his films. Thus, we thought it would be interesting to do an all-around ranking of his films (although we’ve left the animated Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole off the list). So, without further ado, here’s our ranking from worst to best.
Sucker Punch:
I’ll admit to not knowing precisely what Snyder was trying to pull off when I saw this movie in 2011. It remains the most obscure of his live-action films. It is a tough nut to crack, being that it’s a fantastical, hyper-surrealistic fantasy centred around a woman...

Few modern blockbuster filmmakers draw as sharply divided reactions from critics and general audiences as Zack Snyder. For every review that praises Snyder’s remarkable ability to create grand, fantastical visual imagery on film, there will be another review criticizing the filmmaker’s overreliance on slow motion and weak plot points. Let us take a look at Snyder’s filmography, and the critical reaction to his works as determined by Rotten Tomatoes.
Dawn of the Dead (2004), Tomatometer: 76% Zombies attack in Dawn of the Dead
Zack Snyder‘s maiden effort as a director remains his most critically successful venture. In 2004, Zack Snyder presented the world with his dramatic reimagining of George Romero’s classic horror tale of a zombie invasion. The slick, visually compelling action scenes coupled with a strong screenplay by James Gunn help elevate the film above your run-of-the-mill horror remakes.
Dawn of the Dead is now available for streaming on Starz.

The 2017 Dceu film Justice League introduced Joe Manganiello as the formidable DC villain Deathstroke, with potential plans for further exploration of the character in future installments. However, these plans were dashed with the reboot of the superhero universe. But, there remains a glimmer of hope that the new direction of the franchise may finally delve into Deathstroke’s story on the silver screen.
Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke in Justice League
Throughout the years, Deathstroke has made numerous appearances in TV shows and comic books. Notably, one instance saw him alongside the X-Men, engaging in a face-off with formidable Marvel superheroes such as Wolverine, Colossus, and even Storm. With the release of Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, Zack Snyder has been giving quite a few interviews for the promotion of the film. Touching all aspects of it, from the behind-the-scenes conversations with Netflix to his intentions behind the project as a whole. While Zack Snyder’s films have the director’s visual and narrative stamp all over them, this is also the reason for him being a pretty polarizing figure among viewers. While his work in the DC franchise as well as in films like 300 and Watchmen have earned him a massive fan base, there are also a significant number of viewers who have been severely critical of his cinematic choices.

James Gunn has advised Joe Manganiello to consider moving on from his role in the Dceu. The 47-year-old actor portrayed Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke, in Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe, making brief appearances in both Justice League and The Snyder Cut. He was also slated to star in Ben Affleck’s canceled Batman film.

Apart from that, there were talks of a potential standalone Deathstroke movie, for which Manganiello even had a screenplay prepared. Despite DC Comics’ interest in the screenplay, Gunn suggested he let go of any potential plans for the character.

With James Gunn rebooting the DC Universe with Chapter One: Gods & Monsters, the possibility for Joe Manganiello to reprise his role as Deathstroke has been less. However, the actor still had hopes for introducing an origin story for the DC villain.

In many ways, Zack Snyder brought a unique aesthetic to the world of superheroes when he entered the DC franchise to bring his version of Superman to life with Man of Steel. Zack Snyder is a veteran director who has worked and created a plethora of iconic movies throughout his years in Hollywood. From 2004’s Dawn of the Dead to 2023’s Rebel Moon – Part One, Snyder has done it all.
During his time at the Dceu, Snyder left the production of Justice League to deal with some personal tragedy in his life. Talking about his abrupt departure and then completing it with Zack Snyder’s Justice League, it was too much for the 300 director to handle at once.

It’s no secret that Darkseid and Thanos are two of the most powerful and feared villains in the comic book universe. But with Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers: Infinity War’s phenomenal successes, one character in particular has emerged as a pop culture icon: The Mad Titan.
In the MCU films, Josh Brolin’s Thanos truly brought the dread, ferocity, spectacle, and shock factor when he assembled the Infinity Stones and snapped half of life away. However, the DC Universe and its heroes have also been afflicted by Darkseid. Naturally, Darkseid and Thanos have caused problems for the members of the primary superhero teams from DC (Justice League) and Marvel (Avengers) through their many battles. So who would win if Darkseid and Thanos faced off?

Zack Snyder, the veteran director known for directing Zack Snyder’s Justice League and several other DC movies, depicted Darkseid in his 2021 movie. Being shown as an unstoppable terror who destroys everything in his path, Darkseid is indeed quite a terrifying character.
Well, although he is a tyrant in his universe, Darkseid once fought Marvel’s one of the most terrifying villains in a crossover event in the comics. Sadly, the DC villain was defeated quite humiliatingly as the match seemed very unfair!

"Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" (read our review here) is now streaming on Max, and its arrival on streaming marks the official end of the old Dceu once orchestrated by Zack Snyder. Now, new DC films are in the hands of James Gunn and Peter Safran, with new actors coming in to play familiar DC heroes in brand-new stories. The old Dceu is now a thing of the past, and a reminder that reverse-engineering a superhero cinematic universe to compete with Marvel isn't an easy task.
And what of Aquaman? Jason Momoa's aquatic hero only got two movies of his own, but he appeared in a total of six. This might have you wondering: what the heck is the correct order to watch all the movies with Aquaman in them? If you're ready to sit down and watch "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," but want that question answered first, you're in luck!

Following an extensive campaign by fans worldwide, Zack Snyder revealed plans to release a director’s cut of the 2017 film Justice League. The filmmaker had to leave the production of the superhero ensemble after which Joss Whedon was hired to complete the movie. Despite the anticipation, the 2017 film failed to gain a positive reception.

Mythology offers some of the most enduring and rich stories when it comes to epic storytelling. And at the top of the pantheon of mythical figures sits Zeus, the king of the gods in Greek mythology. Throughout Hollywood history, many stars have tried their hands at playing this powerful deity, with varying degrees of success.
Having said that, it makes sense that we should honor the actors who gorgeously portrayed Zeus on screen. Since he is the undisputed leader of Mount Olympus, it is about time he had his own list. Those who have portrayed Zeus on screen have done so with a certain stoicism that is more in line with ancient Greek depictions.

The DC Extended Universe is dead.
Starting in 2008, several feature films based on Marvel Comics proved to be big hits, and Marvel Studios (in conjunction with Disney) would go on to rewrite the blockbuster landscape. For 15 straight years, Marvel dominated the box office by taking a serialized TV structure and applying it to movies, hence birthing the "Cinematic Universe." Each film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was directly connected to all the others. In the "season finale episodes," characters would team up. The MCU never told very sophisticated stories — they all boiled down to "good guys" and "bad guys" engaging in pugilism — but they captured the public's attention like no film series had before.
Naturally, Warner Bros. tried to imitate the McU's success by launching the Dceu in 2013. After all, Warner Bros. still owned the film rights to an enormous back catalogue of superhero characters, including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman,...

As DC fans know all too well, there’s another cut of David Ayer’s “Suicide Squad” dubbed the “The Ayer Cut,” a longer, much darker version of the theatrical version that the filmmaker himself has basically disavowed (henceforth known as #TheAyerCut for the purposes of this article). Given the release of “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” his very different, much darker version of the Joss Whedon directed “Justice League,” DC fans have been clamoring for an #AyerCut film, and it’s been discussed on social media for years.

If the Marvel Cinematic Universe is an intricate puzzle in which each piece finds its perfect place, the DC Universe is a Gordian knot, complicated by aborted overarching storytelling plans and less continuity in more recent films. There is certainly a way to watch the DC movies in order, but you’ll find some films make more sense than others, while some feel completely disconnected from the Dceu at large. This is no fault of the filmmakers, of course, as Warner Bros. was playing catch-up with the MCU and trying to build to their own team-up movie “Justice League” as quickly as possible, resulting in a bit of a slapdash approach to universe-building.
And yet, largely thanks to Zack Snyder, there’s an overarching story that’s been told, and one you can follow if you watch the films in a specific order. Below, we run down how to watch...

Zack Snyder is a pop-fantasy filmmaker who now has a fanboy cult around him. In the two decades since Snyder made his feature directorial debut with the grainy unsettling 2004 reboot of “Dawn of the Dead,” his flamboyant fusion of visual wizardry, technological fixation, and kick-ass spirit has made him, at least in some quarters (read: the Comic-Con and video-game demo), a creative hero for the Age of Escapism. Fans who grew up feasting on such Snyder extravaganzas as “300,” “Watchmen,” and “Sucker Punch” then saw his much-ballyhooed entrée into the DC comic-book sphere marked by ambitious but maligned misfires. Yet in 2021, the release of “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” — his uncut and quite extraordinary version of the movie that Warner Bros. had tapped Joss Whedon to mangle into an “audience-friendly” product — was a vindication that also marked a new peak of reverence for the Snyder cult.

One cannot understate the impact Martin Brest's crime comedy "Beverly Hills Cop" had on popular culture when it was released in 1984. Between "Cop," the 1983 comedy "Trading Places," and Walter Hill's 1982 buddy film "48 Hrs.," Eddie Murphy was suddenly one of the largest and most striking movie stars in the world. His glib delivery and willingness to be crass rattled cinemas to an astonishing degree, and audiences began flocking to see Murphy in just about anything. Brest's film was made for a mere $13 million and would rack up about $316 million worldwide. It was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards.
In the film, Murphy played Axel Foley, a Detroit-based detective who says he's going on vacation to Beverly Hills, but who is secretly investigating the death of a friend, unbeknownst to his bosses. The film involves a lot of Murphy's bafflement at the posh, unusual, upscale...

Hollywood star Jason Momoa shared his experience of riding a vintage motorcycle on the busy streets of New York City, and warned that it is not for the faint-hearted. “I was scared,” he said on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ on the night of November 16.
“I was really scared.”
“I got out there, I was like, ‘Oh this is amazing’. It was like a video game. I don’t even play video games but if I were to imagine what a video game was like, it would be driving a motorcycle in New York City,” he told Fallon, according to Page Six.
The ‘Game of Thrones’ actor compared his harrowing experience to that of a real-life version of the popular video series ‘Grand Theft Auto’ and ‘Frogger’.
“The people are scarier, they don’t give a c*** they just walk across the street,” he went on.
“The cars at least respect the people.

Hollywood star Jason Mamoa will now don the costume of the iconic sea-based Atlantean superhero for the last time as ‘Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom’ has finally released its new trailer, marking the final film of the old Dceu (DC Extended Universe). The film will pick up the threads from 2018’s ‘Aquaman’ and is set after the events of ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’, though it predates ‘The Flash’.
‘Aquaman 2’ sees Arthur Curry now ruling over the kingdom of Atlantis as its new king, ruling alongside his wife Mera in the sea kingdom.
The trailer begins with Arthur Curry making jokes and wisecracks about having been unemployed for four years, while talking to his dad at his lighthouse home, before saying that now he finally has a job, and is now a king to over half a billion people including all creatures of the ocean.

Los Angeles, Sep 6 (Ians) Actor-musician Jared Leto took rock climbing to quite literally the next level, as he was seen climbing a rock building without a harness in New York city, while taking a break during his bike ride.
After pulling up to the building on bike Sunday, Leto was pictured by Page Six, taking a step back to assess the structure before making his way up.
The ‘Thirty Seconds to Mars’ singer tried to find his footing in the stones as he ascended the building’s facade, using the protruding bricks as leverage to pull himself higher.
The 51-year-old appeared focused as he slowly climbed a few feet above the ground before popping back down and peddling away. Though the climbing was unplanned, Leto was nonetheless aptly dressed for the occasion in a yellow tank top, blue shorts and black running shoes.

DC’s “The Flash” is set to stream on Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max starting Aug. 25.
The first-ever standalone feature film for Barry Allen, which stars Ezra Miller and is directed by Andy Muschetti, follows the titular superhero as he uses his powers to travel back in time to change the events of the past.
But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for.
The streaming announcement comes as the film was a commercial disappointment when it hit theaters back in May. It grossed $108 million domestically and just $268 million worldwide.

Judging by commercial results of the last few Dceu movies, many fans have already given up on that franchise, and they’re now waiting for the reboot that will kick off in July 2025 with James Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy.’ However, Warner Bros. and DC Studios still have two more Dceu movies left to release, and we can only wait and see how those will do at the box office worldwide, regardless of their critical response.
The next Dceu movie is ‘Blue Beetle,’ and although Gunn said that the movie’s titular character is actually the first Dcu hero, it remains to be seen how interested the audience is going to be. And after that, Jason Momoa will finally have his next, hopefully not the last, adventure as the Aquaman in the anticipated sequel ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.’

Nielsen played Maximus’ lover Lucilla, a role which she’ll reprise in the yet-to-be-titled sequel.
Since Maximus dies at the end of “Gladiator,” the sequel is focused Lucilla’s son Lucius, played by Academy Award nominee Mescal. His fellow 2023 Academy Award nominee Keoghan is in negotiations to play Emperor Geta, with Quinn set to join the project as Emperor Caracalla. Just saw the first ever public screening of The Flash at CinemaCon. It is a dazzling trip thru time as the DC universe indeed flashes before our eyes. Not just a great new addition to DC but a wild and surprising tribute to what came before. A triumph for Ezra and Keatons return.
