When Speakeasy recently interviewed Edward Conlon about his new novel, “Red on Red,” we were curious to know if most crime fiction holds up for him as a reader, considering he knows the ins and outs of the job as an NYPD detective. “I don’t read that much police fiction,” Conlon said. “I never read Sherlock Holmes as a kid. Not too many police procedurals. I do read tons of police non-fiction, which sometimes sets off your Bs meter.

Marty Adelstein and Shawn Levy’s recently launched TV production company, 21 Laps/Adelstein, has sold its first two projects. Both will be produced through 20th Century Fox TV, where the company is based with an overall deal. The first project from the company, which is run by former Brillstein TV executive Becky Clements, is a drama at Fox based on Neil McMahon’s series of novels about sleuthing physician Carroll Monks. Cane creator Cynthia Cidre is writing. Cidre also recently penned the Dallas reboot at TNT, which has been picked up to pilot. 21 Laps/Adelstein’s second project is a Kung-Fu cop series from writer Neil Tolkin, which has been sold to CBS. Tolkin co-wrote another cop drama for 20th TV, Blue Blood, 3 years ago. It was picked up to pilot at NBC with Brett Ratner directing and producing.

MovieLine caught up with director Brett Ratner to find out about the many projects he has listed on IMDb, including "Conan" and "Beverly Hills Cop 4." * Blue Blood: "That's a pilot I shot for NBC; it's not going to air." * Carnavale 3-D: "I don't know why that's on my IMDb. That was a documentary I was offered by Quincy Jones . a documentary on Brazilian music. Why is that on there? That was years ago. I don't know if he ended up doing it or not." * Mr. S: My Life With Frank Sinatra: "That's a book I'm developing. We're still working on the script. You know, when the studio buys the property and it gets announced, all of the sudden it's like, 'They're making the movie!'" * Conan: "Yes. That's something I'm actively attached to. We're just budgeting the script and trying to figure out when's a good time and where to shoot it.
