The Gifted Medallion
JordanThomasHall2 April 2019
In a sentimental mood, Norman tries to show his appreciation to the kindness shown to him by Tom by gifting him his prized medallion. The next morning Tom cancels a planned camping trip with Eddie, as Joe Kelly asked if Joey can stay with them over the weekend while he is away for his Army Reserve duties. Eddie isn't happy, as Joey has started hitting him again at school. Tom explains how important it is for her to have a woman as example of what she'll become when she grows up. She is merely reflecting her father's manly actions. Eddie understands and tries to be accommodating. Tom shows his son how proud he is of him by giving him the medallion that Norman gave him. Mrs. Livingston lets Joey fix breakfast for Tom and Eddie. When she brings in burnt food Eddie asks her not to cook for them anymore, naturally upsetting her. He goes to apologize and when he sees her crying he gives her the medallion. When her dad picks her up she gives him he medallion. It upsets Eddie who wishes he hadn't given it away. Joe later returns to thank Mrs. Livingston for taking care of Joey and gives her the medallion. He says she has been the closest thing to a mother Joey's had in a long time and will help when he marries his fiancee Sherry. Mrs. Livingston says she will always keep the real gift- the meaning, but gives the medallion to someone special.
