Angelin Jolie’s Ex, Billy Bob Thornton, has reportedly been a great friend to Kevin Costner amid his divorce drama. Last year, Kevin Costner was embroiled in a few controversies, including his highly contentious divorce from ex-wife Christine Baumgartner. He is reportedly leaning on his longtime friend Billy Bob Thornton for support amid the personal drama.
Billy Bob Thornton knows a thing or two about negative media attention. In 2000, Angelina and Billy Bob met on the set of the 1999 dramedy Pushing Tin and wed in Las Vegas, shocking the world, but most of all, actress Laura Dern, who was engaged to Thornton at the time. Tommy Wirkola‘s action-thriller Violent Night is getting a sequel, we learned last year, but what’s the latest on that project? Is it still happening or has it fallen by the wayside?
Chatting with Collider at SXSW last week, Violent Night producer Kelly McCormick promised that Violent Night 2 is definitely still happening, and might be filming next year.
“We are planning on returns to those universes,” McCormick responded when the outlet asked for updates on sequels to both Nobody and the Christmas movie Violent Night.
McCormick teased, “Hopefully, honestly, even potentially end of this year for Nobody 2 and, beginning of next year for Violent Night 2, if we can find time in everybody’s busy schedules.
“But the development’s going super well and everybody’s really, really excited about moving those worlds forward.”
Last we heard, Pat Casey and Josh Miller will be back to write Violent Night...

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was a major moment in vampire media, but the show didn't limit itself to fanged heartthrobs. Buffy fought her fair share of demons and deities, but there was one type of villain that kept popping up throughout the hit series' seven seasons — robots. Probably the most memorable robot in the show is the Buffybot, a robot girlfriend commissioned by bad-boy vamp Spike to quench his unrequited crush. But before Buffybot, the android that started it all was Ted.
Ted is, by all appearances, your run-of-the-mill middle-aged man from suburbia, and he's dating Buffy's mom in the season 2 episode "Ted." He manages to win all of her friends over, but Buffy isn't having it. As it turns out, her suspicions are proven correct — Ted was a killer robot all along.

Actor Pratik Sehajpal, who is currently shooting for his upcoming web series, spoke about his favourite Christmas traditions and his memories of the same. “As a kid, I loved Christmas even though aren’t Christian. Santa Claus and Christmas movies like Home Alone are my favourite. School days were different, but now I celebrate life every day and feel grateful despite a busy schedule,” Pratik said.
Talking about any Christmas activities he looks forward to, Pratik said: “Spending time with family is crucial; I try to prioritise moments together and consider taking them out for movies or meals to create lasting memories.”
The actor also recalled his Christmas celebration when he was on the reality show ‘Ace of Space’: “I celebrated Christmas during Ace of Space and we exchanged secret gifts anonymously. Despite challenges, it brought positivity. Cold weather, gifts, and a positive vibe made Christmas special for me.

Around the holidays, nothing is better than kicking back with your family and laughing until your stomach hurts. Holiday Cheer is real. With the stress of Christmas shopping, it can be hard to remember why we do it all. One surefire way is to put on a fun comedy and let yourself be drawn into the spirit of the season. To enjoy your holiday to the maximum, let’s go over the best Christmas comedies.
The Night Before (2015)
This fun holiday film centers on three friends with an annual tradition of getting together on Christmas Eve and spending the night getting into as much debauchery as possible. Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Anthony Mackie star as the three friends. When they realize that their adult lives are making it harder and harder to keep the tradition going, they decide to make this year’s reunion the best one they have ever had.

Social media users recently marveled that last month marked 20 years since three modern Christmas favorites — New Line’s Elf, Universal’s Love Actually and Miramax’s Bad Santa — all hit theaters within weeks of each other. Two decades later, you don’t need to feel like a cotton-headed ninny-muggins if you’re among those wondering why studios don’t release holiday theatrical offerings in the way they once did.
Although most Christmas films don’t tend to follow the path of, say, 1990’s Home Alone, which topped the domestic box office for a whopping 12 straight weeks, they had typically been a staple of the release calendar, with a handful of titles hitting theaters annually, as recently as the late 2010s. That list includes such 2016 theatrical offerings as Almost Christmas, Bad Santa 2, Office Christmas Party and Why Him?, followed by 2017’s Daddy’s Home 2, A Bad Moms Christmas and animated...

Ho Ho Ho motherf*ckers! Yup, it’s that time of year again…the giving season. As families everywhere come together to celebrate the holidays, bundle up by the fire, and indulge in a parade of sappy Christmas movies, the real adults in the room are going to need something with a bit more kick. Think about it, the all-time best Christmas movies – It’s a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Story, Home Alone, you name it – all revolve around sentimental family-friendly stories for children and adults to enjoy equally. But f*ck all that, Jack, this year we’re all about honoring a bona fide Christmas classic expressly aimed at adult audiences. While Die Hard and Violent Night are worthy action-packed contenders, it’s time to dish out the edible cookies and spiked eggnog for Bad Santa – easily the most politically incorrect and controversially transgressive Christmas comedy on record.

With Christmas just one week (and one day) away, we wanted to ask you, the people, what your favorite Christmas Movie is? It doesn’t have to be the movie you think is the best, just the one that you eagerly anticipate watching every year. Is it the timeless tale of an angel getting its wings in It’s A Wonderful Life? or perhaps the under-appreciated (and genuinely hilarious) R rated The Night Before is how you kick off your holiday season?
Do you look forward to seeing Jack Skellington discover the true meaning of Christmas in the Christmas Movie Classic The Nightmare Before Christmas or watching Kevin McCallister take down the Wet/ Sticky Bandits in Home Alone 1&2 or perhaps seeing Clark W. Twenty years later, it’s fair to argue that Elf is the last great Christmas movie. This Jon Favreau classic, which also marked a significant turning point in Will Ferrell’s career, came out during a holiday season that was awash in memorable Yuletide flicks, with adult-skewing audiences getting to spike their eggnog via Love Actually and Bad Santa. Yet in addition to being the only one of those three films that was suitable for the whole family, Elf has also aged the best. The movie, is in fact, magic.
There are more than a few reasons why Elf works as well as it does. Favreau’s choice to use intentionally antiquated stop-motion effects in the North Pole sequences, and therefore echo his own childhood memories of watching TV specials like Rankin/Bass’ Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964), still charms. Whereas many other big budget Santa movies of the 1990s and...

Ferrell brings manic energy to this tale of an oversized elf called Buddy and it’s still a charmer after 20 years
Twenty years on, this has become a canonical Christmas comedy favourite. A jovial seasonal treat, from director Jon Favreau and screenwriter David Berenbaum, Elf was reportedly inspired by Tom Hanks in Big, but took on a life of its own once Will Ferrell became involved, improvising many of his lines and endowing the whole thing with a more ironised manic energy.
The film’s old-fashioned charm and sweet-natured Yuletide spirit has held up, although it interestingly seems attractive now more for these softer-edged qualities than for the straight-ahead SNL-type Will Ferrell comedy that it seemed to promise back in 2003, when Ferrell’s presence led us all to expect (and often get) something more vinegary and satirical, like Billy Bob Thornton in Bad Santa.

“Best. Christmas. Ever!” is a movie directed by Mary lambert, written by Todd Calgi Gallicano and Charles Shyer, and starring Brandy Norwood, Heather Graham, Jason Biggs, and Matt Cedeño.
Do you fancy a really cheesy Christmas movie? Well, here it is! Fresh from the oven, we present “Best. Christmas. Ever!”, promising to delight those with the sweetest and most festive spirits.
In terms of cinematography, storyline, and acting prowess… it falls a bit short.
But you know these holiday productions all come out around Christmas and are barely distinguishable from one another.

Two childhood friends reunite, almost by chance. One’s life is picture-perfect while the other’s… far from it. They and their partners have to spend Christmas together due to a snowstorm, the perfect excuse to rekindle their undying friendship.

Brandy and Heather Graham play old friends reunited in an awful, mercifully short, film that offers zero Christmas cheer
It’s the junkiest time of the year for streamers, churning out cheap Christmas films that are so tinnily made and carelessly written that enduring them requires more seasonal spirit than even Buddy the Elf could even muster. Will Ferrell’s comedy turns 20 this year, along with Love Actually and Bad Santa, and all recall an unusually magic time for the festive film, each in their different ways earning an easy rewatch slot when November kicks in.
It’s obviously, stupidly unfair to compare any of Netflix’s many many low-stakes films of the season to those beloved standouts, but while Best. Christmas. Ever! was never intended to be quite as good, it really doesn’t need to be quite this bad. Shoddy seasonal slop had been previously siloed on Hallmark and Lifetime channels,...

When we talk about Christmas movies and holiday classics, so often, we're talking about movies that came out decades ago, like "It's a Wonderful Life" (1946), "Miracle on 34th Street" (1957), "A Christmas Story" (1983), or "Scrooged" (1988). Even "Home Alone" was released in 1990 and that feels downright modern compared to many of these films that have been in rotation for longer than a fair number of you reading this have been alive. Halle Berry had a bit of help when she had to do her iconic love scene in Monster’s Ball. The Oscar-winner took some unexpected inspiration from her fellow movie star Nicole Kidman.
How Nicole Kidman played a part in Halle Berry’s love scene in ‘Monster’s Ball’ Halle Berry | Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic
Berry’s love scene in Monster’s Ball generated a lot of conversation at the time of the film’s release. It was intentionally visceral, and so graphic that the film’s director worried Berry would’ve protested the shot. But although Berry didn’t veto the scene, she explained to the filmmaker she had a few conditions for the role.
”I would only do it if Billy Bob agreed to be as naked as I was,” Berry once told The New York Times.
But she might not have done Monster’s Ball at all if it wasn’t for Swordfish.

Billy Bob Thornton has always blended his career with film and television roles. His most recent starring role was on the Amazon legal drama “Goliath,” for which he Thornton won the Golden Globe as Best TV Drama Actor.
Although Thornton’s television work has been limited, he is no stranger to TV awards, having won another Golden Globe for his work in FX’s limited series “Fargo,” as well as an Emmy nom and a nomination from the Screen Actors Guild.
Still, his great fame has been his work in films, having won an Academy Award for his screenplay for 1996’s “Sling Blade,” as well as Oscar nominations for his performances in both “Sling Blade” and 1998’s “A Simple Plan.” In addition to his two Golden Globes for television, he has been nominated for four additional Golden Globes, as well as four Screen Actors Guild Awards, including his win for “Fargo.

A man of many talents, Billy Bob Thornton is an American actor, filmmaker, film writer, musician, and songwriter. Thornton has had an intriguing journey to fame. He was born into a poor home and had to work his way through life. Even settling in Los Angeles in the mid-80s to pursue an acting career, Thornton still had to work odd jobs to survive. After the success of his internationally acclaimed independent film, Sling Blade (1996), Thornton starred in several other box office hits. Some of his notable works include Armageddon (1998), Bad Santa (2003), and The Gray Man (2022). Although...

Willem Dafoe Was Cast as the Green Goblin After Billy Bob Thornton Rejected the Role in ‘Spider-Man’
The first Spider-Man film featured Willem Dafoe as the superhero’s arch-nemesis, which was a role he’d later reprise in No Way Home. But originally, Monster’s Ball star Billy Bob Thornton was courted for the Green Goblin.

Thornton has proven himself to be one of Hollywood’s most versatile stars. The veteran actor has starred in powerful dramas like Sling Blade and Monster’s Ball, but also lent his talents to more lighthearted material such as Bad Santa. But Thornton asserted that most of his characters had the trait of being ‘very flawed’ in common.

Ritter was born in Burbank, CA on Sept. 17, 1948 to singing cowboy star father Tex Ritter and actress mother Dorothy Fay. From a young age, it was clear that John would be following in his parents’ footsteps.
He is most recognized for his role as Jack Tripper in Three’s Company, for which he received a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe. But he had a lengthy and varied career that included roles in such projects as Sling Blade, Problem Child, Bad Santa, and 8 Simple Rules.

Kiefer Sutherland stars in the new Paramount+ series Rabbit Hole as John Weir, "a master of deception in the world of corporate espionage framed for murder by powerful forces who have the ability to influence and control populations."
Creators Glenn Ficarra and John Requa always saw Sutherland as their John Weir, and Sutherland shares their enthusiasm for the role.
We caught up with him during the Rabbit Hole press day for an interview that shares that excitement and shows how different Sutherland is from his on-screen persona.
What were your first thoughts when you were approached by Glenn and John for this project?
My first thought was just how excited I was that they had even thought of me at all. I'm a huge fan of them as writers and as directors.

Kiefer Sutherland returns to TV on Sunday with his new Paramount+ series Rabbit Hole — the actor’s latest thriller following Fox’s iconic 24 and his ABC/Netflix series Designated Survivor. The 56-year-old Sutherland delivers his trademark mix of charm, intensity and desert-dry humor as he plays John Weir, a morally shady corporate spy who finds himself framed for murder by conspiratorial forces. The show tackles the rather timely theme of misinformation and campaigns of organized public deception
Yet for all the intimidating hardness of his characters, Sutherland came across exceedingly pleasant in real life. When our original audio interview file for this story was lost in a recorder meltdown (every reporter’s nightmare), Sutherland gamely offered to chat for this story a second time, and couldn’t have been nicer about it (at the end of our do-over, the actor joked, “I hope to talk to you again, brother, but just about something else!

Surely you didn’t expect a show titled Rabbit Hole to lay all of its cards on the table. Deception piles on deception in a conspiracy thriller for Paramount+ from Glenn Ficcara and John Requa (Bad Santa) that manages to find occasional humor in its dense patchwork of illusion. Making a welcome return to save-the-world TV, 24’s Kiefer Sutherland broods anti-heroically as John Weir, a corporate dirty-tricks specialist (“Forgive me my lack of shame”), haunted by childhood trauma, who falls into an elaborate trap that renders him an instant fugitive. In a twist reminiscent of the 1970s’ classic Three Days of the Condor, Weir drags a recent though intimate acquaintance, Hailey Winton (the terrific Meta Golding), into his web. As befits the genre, she may be seemingly innocent but ...

Plot: John Weir, a master of deception in the world of corporate espionage, is framed for murder by powerful forces who have the ability to influence and control populations.
Review: Kiefer Sutherland experienced a career resurgence when he played Jack Bauer on the long-running Fox series 24. As an unabashed fan of the insane, real-time thriller series, I loved Sutherland’s intense portrayal of an All-American hero who would stop at nothing to defend his country. After 24 left the air, Sutherland played a much different character in the political series Designated Survivor. Sutherland’s down-to-earth performance was consistent throughout the series, which made him an everyman character who bordered on being a superhero. Now, Kiefer is back in a new thriller show with action elements and conspiracy theories aplenty, this time on a streaming platform where he can drop copious f-bombs while still defending the United States from nefarious bad guys...

Charles Dance was never a big Twitter or Facebook user. But now that he stars in Paramount+’s new Kiefer Sutherland thriller “Rabbit Hole”? “It’s made me more determined to have absolutely nothing to do with social media at all,” he said. “I mean, I never did anyway, but I’m certainly not going to do so now!”

One of the most frustratingly mangled Hollywood success stories pertains to the supposed post-production salvation of "Bad Santa." Written by the then up-and-coming duo of Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (based on a pitch from Joel and Ethan Coen), and directed by Terry Zwigoff (hot off the Academy Award-nominated "Ghost World"), the legend holds that Zwigoff's cut of the film was so relentlessly mean-spirited as to be unreleasable. This was backed up 13 years after the film's successful theatrical release by a selectively edited New York Times oral history, which privileges Bob Weinstein's version of the story.
You can't argue with the results. "Bad Santa" was the surprise, coal-in-the-stocking Christmas hit of 2003. Billy Bob Thornton's portrayal of an alcoholic mall Santa, who lazily participates in seasonal, criminal shenanigans with his elf helper, Marcus (Tony Cox), hit anti-consumerist notes with shocking brio. Tommy Wirkola‘s action-thriller Violent Night is now available on Digital and Peacock, and The Wrap reports today that Violent Night 2 is officially coming down the chimney!
“We’re talking about it and we’re just making deals and getting everything in order,” Wirkola tells the outlet. “We have time to really crack the script and figure out the story.”
Wirkola notes that Pat Casey and Josh Miller will be back to write Violent Night 2.
He tells The Wrap, “And we have some ideas, me and Pat and Josh and the producers, we’ve been talking about where we want to take it and what we want to see.”
“There’s stuff we left on the floor like the North Pole, Mrs. Claus, the elves,” Wirkola continued. “But story-wise I think we have a really, really cool idea that expands on the world and scope, but still keeping that tone...

“Violent Night,” 2022’s “Bad Santa”-meets-“Die Hard” action movie, was a sleeper hit, making more than 75 million globally on a budget of only 25 million. (Plus untold riches from its PVOD release shortly after its theatrical bow.)
The Tommy Wirkola-directed and David Harbour-starring film saw Santa Claus, who in this mythology was originally an ancient Norse warrior, defend a family from killer thieves and also suggested a broader world.
And don’t worry, there will be more Christmases for Harbour’s Santa to save. “Yes,” Wirkola said when we asked if the sequel was happening. “We’re talking about it and we’re just making deals and getting everything in order.”
While speaking to TheWrap about the upcoming home video release of “Violent Night,” Wirkola said they wouldn’t shoot right away and have to get the script together. The second installment will also be written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller.

Violent Night is a season comedy action movie that features a rather burnt out and disenchanted Santa Claus, who has to dig deep to muster a fight for what is right.
The film is directed by Tommy Wirkola, and stars David Harbour (Santa), Beverly D’Angelo and the great John Leguizamo. The original and funny screenplay is written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller.
A comedy that at times is completely absurd, amusing and funny, at others very violent, and even so, manages to convey the Christmas spirit and ambiance. We have not felt so much Christmas fervor since Bad Santa.

It is Christmas Eve at the Lightstone household. The highly guarded estate is safer than a fort, so that the extraordinarily wealthy family can spend quality time celebrating the season festivities – sibling rivalry and all. However sophisticated the security measures are, it does not deter a group of dangerous...

The weekend is over, the cash has been counted, the credit card receipts have been tabulated and as expected James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water came out on top with a reported 134 million opening weekend. That number is Way below even the most modest of expectations. On Thursday some predicted around 200 million (even I overestimated in my prediction of 180 million), on Saturday it looked like 150 million but I’m not sure how many saw it coming in this low.
The thing with James Cameron blockbusters is: they don’t tend to be front loaded. We have come to expect films to have massive opening weekends followed by severe drops. Think about the over 60 declines Marvel movies have suffered lately. The Way of Water saw only a 15 decline from Friday to Saturday, even a movie like Top Gun: Maverick saw a 27 Friday to Saturday decline. James Cameron has built...

Prior to 1989, actor Leslie Nielsen was still best known for playing heavies and villains. Even when he appeared in comedy classics like "Airplane!" in 1980 or "Police Squad!" in 1982, his comedic power was derived from his ability to stay stonefaced while absurdity explodes around him. 1989, however, saw the release of "The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!" a film adaptation of the TV show. In that film, Nielsen played the role of Lt. Frank Drebin broadly, doing a lot of mugging and pratfalls. "The Naked Gun" was an enormous hit the year it was released, and Nielsen went full-bore into slapstick roles and spoof movies after that.
During the 1990s, Nielsen appeared in a litany of gloriously silly flicks like "Spy Hard," "Wrongfully Accused," "Repossessed" (a classic), "Dracula: Dead and Loving It," two of the "Scary Movie" sequels, and many others. Not all of these films were good, but...

In 1988, there was an R-rated action film that took place during Christmas time. That movie is ‘Die Hard’ which starred Bruce Willis as the loose-cannon cop who saves innocent people from a group of terrorists at a skyscraper in Los Angeles. Now in 2022, there is a new R-rated Christmas action film called ‘Violent Night’ which stars David Harbour of the hit show ‘Stranger Things’ as a Santa Claus who brutally massacres bad guys just to save a snobby family. It will astonish audiences with dark humor and gruesome graphic violence. Seeing David Harbour in a Santa Claus suit will sort of remind some audiences of the slasher horror film ‘Silent Night, Deadly Night’ since it features a character who also dresses like Santa Claus and goes on a murdering spree. What makes ‘Violent Night’ different is the fact that it is an action film that goes for thrilling shock values.

By this point, it's clear that "Violent Night" is bound to become a Christmas classic. The action-comedy, directed by Tommy Wirkola, fuses the perverse humor of "Bad Santa" with the gory bits from "Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2" and the charm and wonder of films like "The Santa Clause." It's the perfect recipe for a holiday treat. With a script written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller, "Violent Night" tells the story of the super-rich Lightstone Family, whose Christmas Eve gathering is crashed by a group of mercenaries. Santa Claus (David Harbour) unwittingly becomes entangled in the murderous takeover — if he wants to keep Christmas alive, he must survive the night.
As you might expect, "Violent Night" earns its hard-r rating for graphic violence and language. However, beneath all the blood there beats a delightfully humorous heart. Harbour delivers the physical gags to great effect, and the entire cast — which includes John Leguizamo,...

David Harbour (“Stranger Things”) is Santa Claus in Tommy Wirkola‘s action-thriller Violent Night, which came down the chimney courtesy of Universal Pictures this past weekend. The film dishes out holiday beatings and has been embraced by critics and genre diehards alike for its punishing new take on Santa, a sort of unholy fusion of Bad Santa and Die Hard.
How well is Violent Night performing at the box office? The film opened in 3,682 theaters and stuffed 13.3 million into its sack across its opening weekend at the domestic box office.
Worldwide, Violent Night opened to a solid 20,355,000. The film’s reported production budget was 20 million, so Universal is hoping it has legs throughout the December holiday season.

Terry Zwigoff's 2003 film "Bad Santa" was more or less destined for cult classic status. Starring an Academy Award-winning actor, "Bad Santa" was deliberately crass and misanthropic, an antidote to the treacly sentimentality that ordinarily infuses films explicitly about Christmas.
In "Bad Santa," Billy Bob Thornton plays an itinerant mall Santa named Willie who uses his seasonal job to plan last-minute mall heists with his partner Marcus (Tony Cox), who poses as one of Santa's Elves. The heists typically go well, but just barely, as Willie is a wrathful, cruel alcoholic who has a great deal of trouble controlling his constant base impulses toward cussing and lechery. The late Bernie Mac played Gin, a mall manager who caught wise to Marcus' and Willie's plan, and Lauren Graham played Sue, a woman with a Santa Claus fetish that Willie was happy to indulge. Deck the halls with boughs of cinema! Variety asked 22 celebrities to name their favorite holiday movies.
Selena Gomez’s top pick is “The Family Stone”. “I love Rachel McAdams,” she tells me. “I that was a wonderful movie.”
No surprise, but many, including Austin Butler and Paris Hilton, chose “Elf” as their go-to seasonal choice. “It’s so charming. It’s so funny,” Billy Eichner says. “Will Ferrell should have gotten an Oscar for ‘Elf.’ I truly feel that way.”
“Dead to Me” star Natalie Morales goes for “Die Hard,” as does “Glass Online: A Knives Out Mystery” director Rian Johnson. “Obviously [it’s] the ultimate Christmas movie. It’s not controversial at all to say that,” he says, laughing. “It’s not Christmas until he falls from the top of the tower, right?”
Of course, classic holiday movies were often mentioned. Steven Spielberg and James Marsden love “It’s a Wonderful Life...

What do you get if you cross Die Hard, Bad Santa, Home Alone and Santa Claus: The Movie? The answer is Violent Night, a violent Christmas comedy horror that mixes up multiple festive favourites and just about gets away with it.
Directed by Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow), the film stars David Harbour as a depressed Santa Claus (the real one), who we first meet drowning his sorrows in a pub in Bristol, of all places, before taking off in his sled and vomiting on the bar’s owner from mid-air. With the tone set, we move to the house of the ultra-rich Lightstone household, where mean-spirited matriarch Gertrude (Beverly D’Angelo) has gathered various family members for Christmas Eve,...

But then one fateful Christmas eve, when our man Kringle is loitering in a swanky mansion and dipping into some expensive brandy after dropping off gifts, a gang of criminals break into the place and hold the occupants hostage. A...
