Oi there, listen up! Amazon Prime Video’s list of new releases for June 2024 includes another season of its biggest, bloodiest hit.
The Boys season 4 premieres its first three episodes on Thursday, June 13. Based on the trailers, The Boys is really leaning into the political side of its social satire with a presidential election underway and Homelander on trial for the small matter of killing a guy last season. The season will continue to air on Thursdays, culminating with the finale on July 18.
Amazon is really leaning into its sports offerings this month as well. Fans will get to watch the New York Yankees, the WNBA, and the Nwsl several times throughout June. That’s in addition to a couple of sports docs: Power of the Dream on June 18 and Federer: Twelve Final Days on June 20.
But if you’re looking for something even more explosive than Homelander and Roger Federer,...

In The Animal Kingdom, an Un Certain Regard-selected science-fiction romp from France, human-animal mutations are the new norm. Director Thomas Cailley begins things in media res with a familiar disaster-movie scene: François (Romain Duris) and Émile (Paul Kircher)––father and son, respectively––are stuck in traffic, making chit-chat, when something slowly begins capturing the attention of other drivers. An ambulance across the way begins to rumble. Then a man with a large winged arm bursts out, causing some damage before scurrying down a tunnel. Only mildly ruffled, François exchanges a jaded aphorism with another driver over: “Strange times.”
That blasé mood provides an attractive entry point to Cailley’s world: the mutants in The Animal Kingdom are a fledgling phenomenon, but the unaffected are still trying to get to work on time. At film’s start, François is taking Émile to visit his mother, who is one of the unlucky few.

For Variety‘s Writers on Writers, Lisa Taddeo pays tribute to “The Lost Daughter” (screenplay by Maggie Gyllenhaal; based on the novel by Elena Ferrante).

In the book, a mother leaves her two girls for several years when they’re young but we don’t quite hear why. In Maggie Gyllenhaal’s prismatic adaptation, we see the why, we see it in the passion lines across Jessie Buckley’s face when she plays young Leda and then we see the defensible scars of that passion on Olivia Colman,...

The summer movie season may be winding down, but HBO Max is keeping the movie ball rolling in September 2021. HBO Max’s list of new releases this month is heavy on the film side of things – both in library and original offerings.
Two Warner Bros. films of note arrive this month. The James Wan-directed horror tale Malignant premieres on Sept. 10 and is followed by Clint Eastwood’s Cry Macho on Sept. 17. The next installment in Adventure Time: Distant Lands (which is kind of like a film series!) is titled Wizard City and opens the month on Sept. 2
Of course, it wouldn’t be a new month of HBO Max releases without some interesting evergreen Warner movie titles. Sept. 1 finds all eight Harry Potter movies returning to WarnerMedia’s streaming service. They will be accompanied by The Goonies, The Evil Dead, Cloverfield, and more. Later on in the month, Mortal Kombat (Sept.

In our Q&a series Last Call, we get down to the bottom of every last thing with some of our favorite celebs - from the last time they were starstruck to the last song they listened to. This week, AnnaSophia Robb takes our call.
AnnaSophia Robb's role as Michelle Shughart on Peacock's Dr. Death is a far cry from her roles as Leslie Burke in Bridge to Terabithia and as a young Carrie Bradshaw on The Carrie Diaries. Now, 27 years old, the actor is very picky about what roles she takes on. "I went to college after The Carrie Diaries and I continued to work throughout college. So I try to be really picky about what I want my trajectory to be," she told Popsugar. "I want to tell stories that I believe in and characters I find really interesting and different."

It’s blockbuster season and Amazon Prime is celebrating by bringing a major action film to its stream.
That’s right, Amazon Prime’s list of new releases for July 2021 is highlighted by none other than The Tomorrow War on July 2. The year is 2051 and mankind is locked in a vicious war against an alien species. Our only hope is to go back in time and find…Chris Pratt. Ok, perhaps that’s a little reductive of the film’s plot. Future humanity also comes back to bring Sam Richardson to the future.
In terms of originals, there isn’t much else to speak of on Amazon Prime this month. The only other major release is The Pursuit of Love on July 30. This BBC series is directed by Emily Mortimer and takes place during the WWII era and follows two cousins as they navigate their lives. Lily James and Andrew Scott star.

After swatting back the Covid-19 scourge to some extent, Puerto Rico opened its ports in June 2020. With the year-long curfew lifted in May this year, it’s been business as usual on this Caribbean island of roughly 3,500 square miles.
The capital of San Juan held its first live audience concert on June 26, 2021 with salsa icon Gilberto Santa Rosa playing to thousands at the Puerto Rico Convention Center for the first time since the pandemic closed it down. According to Asm Global regional manager Jorge Perez, 15 other concerts have been announced, with 10 already sold out.
International acts are also coming in as most U.S. mainland venues remain closed. Plunging cases and a relatively high vaccination rate (up to 70%) has brought some semblance of normality and a growing number of location shoots to the U.S. territory, albeit with health and safety protocols still in place.

The Cannes Film Festival has added seven films addressing environmental concerns to its 2021 line-up.
“La Croisade” by actor-director Louis Garrel, stars himself, Laetitia Casta and Joseph Engel. It was co-written by legendary screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière who died last year. The festival describes the film as: “A fiction in which the children take the reins to protect the planet. A tale of anticipation equally urgent, funny and charming. A story about the alienation of adults from the concerns of children who want to save themselves.”
In “Marcher sur l’eau”, filmed in a village in Niger, director Aïssa Maïga follows a little girl who, while waiting for a well to be built, must travel several kilometres for water every day. The film also explores the question of whether access to water co-relates with access to education for girls in Sub-Saharan African countries.

Six documentaries also selected for the festival’s inaugural environmental strand.
The Cannes Film Festival has revealed the seven titles selected for its first ‘cinema for the climate’ section – part of a new focus by the festival to address environmental issues.
Comprised of one scripted film and six documentaries, the selection is led by comedy The Crusade, by French actor and filmmaker Louis Garrel.
The film revisits the family unit of his 2018 feature A Faithful Man and sees Garrel star opposite Laetitia Casta as a couple who discover their teenage son has been secretly selling the family possessions to fund an ecological project in Africa.

The legendary Animal Crossing franchise is deserving of its iconic status for many reasons, but it’s hard to deny that part of the series’ longevity can be traced back to the memorable personalities of its villagers.
In a franchise seemingly devoid of many traditional gameplay hooks, the thrill of inviting that one villager you’ve been looking for to your Animal Crossing home regularly ranks high among the best moments in gaming. Anyone who has spent any time with these games will waste no time telling you about their favorite villagers and the way they’ll always remember the time they spent with them.
There’s no way you’ll be able to convince those fans that anyone but their favorite villagers are the best villagers in Animal Crossing, we humbly suggest these 20 icons rank high among the greatest neighbors in franchise history.

When discussing Meiko Kaji, it is difficult not to rely on the word ‘iconic’. After all, what better term is there to describe a performer whose work has influenced and inspired countless filmmakers and who was once the face of female empowerment in Japanese cinema? First gracing the screen billed under her birth name, Masako Ota, Kaji has over a hundred acting credits to date and has also enjoyed a successful music career. However, her golden period undoubtedly came during the height of the exploitation boom in Japan, a time when cheap films characterised by sex and violence were produced en masse in an attempt to pry audiences away from their television sets. It was during this era that the feisty young actor earned herself a lasting place in the history of cult cinema.

This one is long overdue as I bring my Creator in Focus segment back to the pages of eBuying Comics – last seen in Week 38 where I looked at the key issues of Todd McFarlane’s career. I have decided to make a tweak to the segment, previously I looked at current values of those key issues. Where as now the main focus will be on finding good bargains on eBay for the key issues of your favourite creators. Also I think it would be fun and more beneficial to talk about the collected versions available of creators works, which makes it easier for readers to seek out. Especially with the early career stuff. Its useful to know what volumes certain issues are in, whether its paperback or hardback is good knowledge to share with the comics community, new or old readers alike.

Mumbai, March 2: Bobby Deol was dubbed the Italian Stallion when he entered Bollywood, long mane adding to his dashing lover boy charm. Although his debut film Barsaat fared way below expectation in 1995, he had a few top hits in the early decade of his career, notably Gupt, Soldier, Baadal and Bichhoo.
Yet, what followed didn't make for a happy picture. Dharmendra's younger son and Sunny Deol's younger brother Bobby suddenly witnessed a drop in his career graph in the new millennium. Films stopped doing well, the offers started slowing down.
The actor says that it took him some time to accept the fact that he would have to settle for roles lesser than the lead.

Hot on the heels of the recent Super Mario Bros. update, Nintendo has revealed that you’ll soon be able to invite six new villagers from popular Sanrio properties to your Animal Crossing: New Horizons island.
If this all sounds a little familiar, that’s likely because Animal Crossing: New Leaf featured a similar promotion that allowed you to add various Sanrio characters to your village. However, it was incredibly difficult to find the cards required to unlock the villagers in that game, which means that many players (especially those in the U.S. where the cards were not previously released) never got the chance to invite them. Besides, this is the first time that new villagers have been added to New Horizons (which could mean that the best and worst villagers “meta” is about to be reshaped).
So whether you’re a huge Hello Kitty fan or you’re just looking for new neighbors,...

Comics may be more accessible than ever right now (as I state everyweek) with Tpb’s being the biggest seller. As well as your Lcs you can walk into places like Waterstones and HMV and be greeted with a healthy selection of the latest paperback collections. This change in the market has no doubt brought a change in story telling too. We have been in this pattern of decompressed story telling, writing for the collected edition for a long time now. The problem is so few writers can do it well and sustain a story arc for 5/6 issues. We very rarely nowadays get a single issue that is heralded for its unique story telling or its outstanding approach to art. Especially from the big two. It is fair to say floppies (single issues) are only for die hard fans now. It seems every year is going to be the year floppies finally die.
