Neon has done a great job of promoting the upcoming horror film Longlegs while also keeping the story’s secrets concealed. Although multiple teaser trailers and posters have made their way online, we still don’t know a whole lot about this movie, beyond the fact that it’s scheduled to reach theatres on July 12th. But if you want to know exactly how much we do know about it, just keep scrolling down, because we have compiled a list of Everything We Know About Longlegs.

Brad Dourif has had an incredible acting career that stretches back more than fifty years – and back in the early days of that career, he even earned a “Best Actor in a Supporting Role” Oscar nomination for his performance in the 1975 classic One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Over a decade later, he started playing the role he is best known for, that of Charles Lee Ray, a.k.a. Chucky, a serial killer who uses voodoo to transfer his soul into the body of a doll. Dourif is now 74 years old, so when we hear that he has decided to retire from acting, it’s totally understandable… but while talking about his retirement, Dourif has also made sure to assure fans that his days of Chucky are not over. He will still continue to work on any Chucky projects that might come up.

It's been more than 10 years since the world was subjected to the last "Scary Movie" sequel, but as is the case with any famous horror movie villain, it's practically impossible to keep this series down forever. And now Paramount Pictures plans to breathe new life into this particular franchise. The studio will be teaming up with Miramax to resurrect the "Scary Movie" franchise with a brand new installment. Production begins this fall, and the film will be in theaters in 2025.
Variety reports that producer Neal H. Moritz, who is best known for producing the "Fast and Furious" movies for Universal, will be producing this new iteration. Moritz was not directly associated with any of the previous five "Scary Movie" films, but interestingly, he did produce a couple of horror flicks that were parodied in those early versions, including "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and "Urban Legend." He also...

You can never underestimate the power of hearsay. Sometimes, something sounding like it could be true is enough to convince people that it must be. And while this phenomenon can have disastrous real-world consequences when applied to science and politics, it’s also responsible for some memorable instances of collective storytelling.
From hook-handed murderers to gerbils becoming stuck inside famous actors, urban legends are the modern equivalent to ancient campfire stories about werewolves and vampires – which is why it makes sense that they’ve inspired some of most beloved genre films. And with so many of these allegedly “true” stories to choose from, we’ve decided to come up with a list highlighting six of the most underrated movies based on urban legends.
Naturally, we’ll be shying away from more popular films like Candyman and Jamie Blanks’ Urban Legend, but don’t forget to comment below with your own...

Primetime Emmy-nominated composer Christopher Young has one hell of a resume in the horror world, lending his musical talents to fan-favorite films including A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge, Hellraiser, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, The Fly II, Tales from the Hood, Urban Legend, Drag Me to Hell, Sinister, and more recently 2020’s The Empty Man.
The legendary composer is back here in 2024 with Christopher Young’s Nosferatu – A Symphony of Horror, taking to Kickstarter to fan fund a Double CD release of his own award-winning orchestral score for the 1922 horror classic directed by F.W. Murnau.

From the ice rink to the dojo. THR reports that Joshua Jackson has joined the cast of the upcoming Karate Kid movie from Sony Pictures.
Character details are being kept under wraps, but the outlet says that Joshua Jackson will play one of the main characters in the Karate Kid movie. The film will star Ben Wang (American Born Chinese) as a young teenager from China who “finds strength and direction via martial arts and a tough but wise mentor (or two).” The coming-of-age drama will also find Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio reprising their roles of Mr. Han and Daniel Larusso, which brings together the original franchise and the 2010 remake.
Related No Cobra Kai for Hilary Swank?
Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F***ing World) is set to direct the movie, which has been scripted by Rob Lieber.

Neon’s marketing department is taking an awesome approach to promoting Longlegs, the latest horror project from The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, and Gretel & Hansel director Osgood Perkins. First, they dropped a trio of creepy teasers online, and you can check those out in the embed above. Now they’ve unveiled a quarter of posters for the film, and they’re all quite strange and unnerving. You can take a look at those, with their accompanying captions, at the bottom of this article.
The cast of Longlegs includes Nicolas Cage (Dream Scenario), Maika Monroe (It Follows), Alicia Witt (Urban Legend), and Blair Underwood (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D). The story Perkins crafted for the film is said to be “in the vein of classic Hollywood psychological thrillers.” Monroe takes on the role of FBI Agent Lee Harker, a gifted new...

“Don’t you want to be an urban legend, Nat? All your friends are now.”
We heard from a friend of a friend of our roommate’s sister’s brother that there’s a killer on the loose at Pendleton University. Twenty-five years after administration officials swept a horrible tragedy under the rug, the current crop of attractive students are preparing to memorialize the dead in the most respectful way they can: by throwing a huge frat party. Sensitive Natalie (Alicia Witt) is trying to make a fresh start when her own painful past pushes its way to the surface. It seems someone is trying to send a message by murdering her friends and staging their deaths as urban legends. With the anniversary of the massacre approaching, Natalie has only her best friend Brenda (Rebecca Gayheart) and ethically challenged, but hunky reporter Paul (Jared Leto) to find the killer before...

Before there were horror movies, there were legends. Passed down through oral tradition, our earliest ancestors created colorful fables of vengeful gods, malevolent witches, and ravenous beasts lurking in the darkest corners of the night. Often told to entertain, these spooky tales also included hidden warnings about the dangers of straying from the path, disobeying one’s parents, or breaking social norms. As the years have passed between then and now, so have the stories. Horrific tales of poisoned apples have become whispered warnings to check Halloween candy for razor blades. Trolls lurking in the woods have transformed into a hook-handed murderer haunting lover’s lane.
Contemporary legends are more likely to be shared in an email forward than around the campfire, but their functions remain the same. These tales exist to help us navigate an unpredictable world and their subjects have evolved alongside our cultural fears. We’ve also updated our methods of delivery,...

This holiday season’s release of Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving is cause for celebration amongst slasher fans. It’s been a hot minute since mainstream horror audiences have been able to watch a wide-release slasher that feels gruesomely throwback *and* is based on a wholly original concept. Thanksgiving is a contemporary reinterpretation of cheesy 80s midnighters about masked killers and juicy, rubbery effects that hoists holiday horror back into the limelight. It’s also fair to speculate how Thanksgiving signals a possible shift in overall genre trends, but labeling Thanksgiving as the rebirth of the slasher subgenre is a bit misleading. Roth’s ooey-gooey ode to holiday horror with all the trimmings certainly sticks out in today’s horror landscape, but that’s only on surface-level evaluations.
Heck, it wasn’t even the only holiday-themed slasher in theaters this season.
Academics consider 1978-1984 the “Golden Age” of slashers, built on the backs of Black Christmas,...

Many actors find early success in the horror genre. Jennifer Aniston battled an evil, pun-loving Irish creature in "Leprechaun" years before she landed "Friends," for example. Charlize Theron's first role came in "Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest." Even "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation" boasted not one, but two future Oscar winners in its cast, Matthew McConaughey and Renée Zellweger.
That said, not everyone manages to go on to achieve that same level of success. For every Michelle Williams ("Halloween H20: 20 Years Later") and Leonardo DiCaprio ("Critters 3"), there are countless horror stars whose careers don't reach the same level of renown. It can be especially interesting to look back at teen horror films, which often feature ensemble casts, to see who made it and who didn't. The actors on this list all have respectable careers, and most are still working in Hollywood; they simply never...

If there’s one thing horror fans pride ourselves on, it’s knowledge of genre trivia. If there’s a second thing, it’s our Halloween costumes. We love the opportunity to dress as our favorite horror movie characters almost as much as we love showing off our intricate memory of cult classics. Any opportunity to combine those two treats feels like a spooky season miracle.
Classic costumes like Michael, Jason, Freddy, and Jigsaw will always be available, but sometimes you want a look that will help you stand out in a crowd. The following list will get you started on a deep cut costume sure to impress the hardcore horror fans at your Halloween soirée.

It is 2023, and streaming services are constantly in our faces and on our TVs and devices. Whether it be Max (or The Artist Formerly Known As HBO Max), Apple TV+, Disney+, Paramount+, or old stalwarts like Netflix, Hulu, and Prime Video, it seems like we have unlimited options for content.
But even with genre-specific services like Shudder and Screambox, free-services full of movies like Tubi, or deep cut catalogs like The Criterion Channel or Arrow Player, there are still many movies which are not currently available on any service, so we have to call physical media in for the rescue.
Here are 5 excellent horror movies that are not available to stream, rent, or buy on any digital service, but do have excellent physical media Blu-ray and 4K Uhd releases.

The episode of Revisited covering Urban Legends: Final Cut was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Adam Walton, Edited by Victoria Verduzco, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
The late 1990s and early 2000s were a period where horror fans either loved or hated what was being produced and released. For every new good film, there seem to be 10 bad ones. The genre felt like it was saturated, and a lot of films came off similar to each other. Scream started a self-referential trend in horror, one that went from mild references to other films to straight-up meta stories. One of the better-received horror films of the late 1990s was 1998’s Urban Legend. It played with stories everyone knew, and it was fairly brutal in its approach to killings. So, to no one’s surprise, it was followed up by a few sequels,...

There have been many actors to play the role of Superman over the years, and nearly as many to play his arch-nemesis, Lex Luthor. Everyone has their favourite incarnation of the villain, but DC Studios co-head James Gunn has a clear pick for the best Lex Luthor — Michael Rosenbaum.
Micheal Rosenbaum played Lex Luthor on Smallville, the long-running superhero drama which chronicled the early years of Clark Kent before he became Superman. James Gunn appeared on Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast, and when the topic of Luthor came up, Gunn was quick to say, “You are the best Lex, let’s admit it. We know you’re the best Lex.” When Rosenbaum said, “Come on, you’re being funny,” Gunn responded, “I’m not being funny. You’re definitely the best Lex. Definitely.” Although James Gunn wouldn’t confirm that Lex Luthor will return in Superman: Legacy, reports have...

With over 150 credits in film and television and counting, the actor remains a heavyweight in the horror space. That includes cameo appearances, where Englund’s history and experience bring welcome depth to each part, no matter how fleeting.
Some Robert Englund cameos offer a wry wink to horror fans, while others intentionally play on audience expectations based on his more prominent roles.

With roots in real-life murders, “The Hook” urban legend goes hand-in-hand — or should I say hand-in-hook? — with the slasher genre. After being referenced in ’80s slashers He Knows You’re Alone and Final Exam, it went on to at least partially inspire five slashers from the ’90s: Candyman, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Urban Legend, Campfire Tales, and Lovers Lane. Unfortunately, the latter is the least effective of the bunch.
To be fair, Lovers Lane was made independently for $500,000 — a fraction of the budget of the studio films — before being released direct to video in 1999. Directed by Jon Steven Ward and written by Geof Miller (DeepStar Six) and Rory Veal, the film is best remembered for being the film debut of Anna Faris, one year prior to her starring turn in Scary Movie. It was on this set that she met co-star Ben Indra, to whom she was...

Were you as impressed as we were when Dandelion raised her voice in song for the first time on “The Masked Singer”? When it comes to the golden era of slasher films, most will say it was the 1980s, but the 1990s are not to be ignored as they brought us an amazing bunch of films and some that redefined the sub-genre (including one that’s getting a fifth sequel this weekend). Here’s our list of the Best 90s Slasher Films:
Wishmaster (1997)
This one is considered a fantasy slasher, so it’s a bit controversial as to if it is a slasher or not. For this list, let’s consider it one. It’s fantastic and Andrew Divoff is 98% of why it’s so good. This film is his and he makes it the best it could be. His work is both charming and menacing, giving his character an aura that makes the whole film what it is. It’s creepy, it has great kills, and the cameos in this one are to die for.

A new episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series has just been released, and in this one we’re looking back at the slasher Urban Legend (watch it Here), which – I am disturbed to say, as someone who saw it on the big screen back in the day – is already celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. To find out all about this movie, check out the video embedded above.
Directed by Jamie Blanks from a screenplay by Silvio Horta, Urban Legend has the following synopsis: A university is beset by a rash of gruesome murders that resemble old urban legends. When her friend Michelle is killed by someone hiding in her car, Natalie begins to notice the pattern. Her suspicions grow stronger when her own roommate is strangled to death. Soon the quiet college campus is transformed into hunting grounds for a maniac, and Natalie struggles...

Two weeks ago, we heard that Longlegs, the latest horror project from The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, and Gretel & Hansel director Osgood Perkins, has racked up distribution deals with multiple companies around the world. Now Deadline has revealed the names of two actors who have joined previously announced leads Nicolas Cage (Prisoners of the Ghostland) and Maika Monroe (It Follows) in the cast: they are Alicia Witt (Urban Legend) and Blair Underwood (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D). Details on the characters Witt and Underwood are playing in the movie have not been shared.
The story Perkins wrote for Longlegs is said to be “in the vein of classic Hollywood psychological thrillers.” Monroe is taking on the role of FBI Agent Lee Harker, a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer (Cage). As the case takes complex turns,...

I thought I was done buying The Texas Chain Saw Massacre after upgrading to the 40th anniversary edition Blu-ray in 2014. Between the crisp presentation and the copious extras, I was certain it was the definitive version of Tobe Hooper‘s 1974 masterpiece. Yet here I am, nearly a decade later, ready to sing the praises of Dark Sky Films‘ 4K Ultra HD edition.
Long before “gritty” was an industry buzzword, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre epitomized the term. As such, one might be wary that a 4K restoration could hinder the viewing experience, but that is not at all the case. Utilizing the 4K scan from the aforementioned Blu-ray, which was approved by Hooper, and now with a wider color gamut courtesy of Hdr, the picture is presented in staggering clarity while maintaining the 16mm film grain. The oppressive heat is virtually palpable.

It's difficult to overstate the immediate and overwhelming effect that Wes Craven's 1996 film "Scream" had on pop culture. By the mid-1990s the slasher genre had pretty much come to an end. The most popular monsters of the 1980s were being deliberately killed off, as "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare" and "Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday" seemingly closed the door on their respective franchises. The slasher series that continued started to die of fatigue, as seen in clunky, underwhelming films like "Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers" and "Hellraiser: Bloodline."
Then, in December of '96, "Scream" came out and a new trend was immediately born. The Kevin Williamson-scripted "Scream" was a slasher movie, yes, but it was populated by teenage characters who all knew -- and spoke openly about -- the tropes of slasher movies. Everyone was wry, sarcastic, and understood the metafictional situation they occupied.

Exclusive: Chase Stokes (Outer Banks) and Sydney Taylor (American Born Chinese) are set to topline the YA romance Marked Men from director Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook).
The film written by Sharon Soboil (After We Fell) is based on the New York Times and USA Today bestselling novel Rule by Jay Crownover — the first in her hit series Marked Men, which has been translated into 11 languages. It’s being sold worldwide by Voltage Pictures, which is currently placing it before buyers.
Taylor stars as Shaw Landon, who has loved Rule Archer (Stokes) from the moment she laid eyes on him. Rule, a fiery-tempered rebel tattoo artist, doesn’t have time for a good girl pre-med student like Shaw – even if she’s the only one who can see the person he truly is. Strictly Come Dancing viewers are expressing shock after a results leak spoiled who left the competition this week.
Saturday night’s Blackpool extravaganza, in which the dance competition returned to the Tower Ballroom for the first time since 2019, included flashy group numbers, extra dancers and the first 40 of the series.
Fleur East topped the leaderboard after finally convincing Craig Revel Horwood to give out a 10, with Ellie Taylor at the bottom and three couples tied in the middle with 35 points each. You can find the full Blackpool leaderboard here.
For a number of years, the Strictly results show has been pre-recorded after the live main episode on a Saturday, with the identity of the eliminated celebrity kept under wraps until the episode is broadcast on Sunday.
However, the results are occasionally leaked online by audience members at the recording, as they were this week. The Independent will not be revealing the eliminated contestant here.

With conspiracy theories and rumors running amok, it is no wonder that urban legends are more powerful than ever – and horror master Eli Roth is fully exploring the phenomenon in his new series “Urban Legend,” which premieres on Travel Channel and begins streaming on discovery+ Oct. 28.
Based on widely shared “true” stories that happened to a friend of a friend of a friend, each of the eight episodes is a mini-horror film, complete with lurking psychopaths, murderous mysteries, creepy creatures and, of course, more jump takes than your nerves can probably handle. And in Roth’s nightmarish anthology series, he showcases these modern-day folktales as you’ve never seen them before.
“We said, ‘Let’s just make the story be the scariest, most compelling version of that story,” Roth told TheWrap. His criteria in which of the thousands of urban legends to choose from? “It’s gotta sound nuts, but just,...

For horror fans, Halloween isn’t just a holiday – it’s a state of mind. While most studios, networks and streaming platforms are fine with dropping most of their new horror content in the month of October, that’s just not enough to satisfy our jones for new tales of terror. I recently listed some of the new and upcoming horror movies to keep watch for – both this month and the weeks and months to follow – and it’s about time we did the same for TV series as well.
October brought us some excellent new and returning horror shows to networks and streamers, from a new season of Chucky to some chilling premieres like Interview with the Vampire, and there are still plenty more rolling out in the coming weeks. But right now, I’m going to focus on six new horror series that are coming your way soon...
