Candace Cameron Bure was the undisputed queen of Hallmark Channel’s slate of popular holiday fare, with more than 30 credits to her name. Who could forget her work as a high-strung doctor who moves to Alaska in “Christmas Under Wraps”? Ok, just because you haven’t heard of it, doesn’t mean it wasn’t a huge hit. The 2014 made-for-tv movie has the distinction of being the most watched Hallmark Christmas special ever, landing almost 6 million viewers on its debut airing. So, when Bure, 46, split with Hallmark to join rival upstart cable network Gac (now Great American Family) earlier this year, not even Santa himself could cheer up Hallmark.
The brains behind this Christmas steal wasn’t the Grinch. Instead, it was Great American Media president and CEO Bill Abbott, the former chief of Hallmark Channel’s parent company, who stepped down from his previous post in 2020 after he faced...

Premiering on October 25, 1997, Under Wraps was the inaugural Disney Channel Original Movie. The cornerstone of the network’s programming proved to be as close to appointment viewing as it got for ‘90s kids, along with the likes of ABC’s Tgif and Nickelodeon’s Snick. Moreover, Under Wraps served as a gateway to horror for many millennials. Before the age of streaming, catching a mummy movie on the same channel where you watched Disney cartoons and Boy Meets World reruns could have been your first exposure to the macabre.
Disney attempted to recapture the magic with last year’s Under Wraps remake. The original movie was successful — and continues to hold up 25 years later — for several reasons; relatable kid leads, a great Halloween atmosphere, and a sense of humor chief among them. Director/co-writer Alex Zamm and co-writer William Robertson (Inspector Gadget 2) smartly maintained those elements for the new iteration.

For a few weeks each year, our expertise in all things creepy and spooky is valued above all other film fanatics, and we're often tasked with providing as many film recommendations as possible for casual horror fans to cram into a month or two of viewing. Sure, there's bound to be requests for "the scariest movie ever," but as new crops of monster kids grow into their own year after year, there's an evergreen need for horror movies that adults can watch with their little ones.

This month Disney will be hosting Disney+ Day, which means the streamer’s list of new releases for September 2022 is more jam-packed than usual.
Keeping with tradition, however, the biggest release this month is of the Marvel of Star Wars variety, with Star Wars taking its turn after Marvel did with She-Hulk in August. Prequel series Andor is set to premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 21 with three episodes. Starring Diego Luga as the titular rogue, Andor will take place in the time before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Disney has big plans for this property, with an uncommonly large 12-episode order set to run throughout the fall.
Some other big Disney franchises stake their claims with month with Pixar’s Cars on the Road and The Simpsons short “Welcome to the Club” both arriving on Sept. 8. Also premiering that day is the Robert Zemeckis film Pinocchio. Later on, Disney+ will...

Disney Channel is set to remake it’s first original movie “Under Wraps” with a new cast, the network announced Friday.
The new project is described as a “contemporary comedic remake” of the original 1997 Halloween movie featuring new cast members Christian J. Simon, Malachi Barton, Sophia Hammons and Phil Wright. It is slate for a 2021 premiere on Disney Channel.
The movie follows three friends, Gilbert (Simon), Marshall (Barton) and Amy (Hammons), who happen upon and awaken a mummy, which they affectionately name Harold (Wright), and must rush to return him to his resting place before midnight on Halloween. Along the way, the team narrowly escapes a nefarious group of criminals intent on selling the mummy to the highest bidder. When Harold is inevitably captured, Marshall, Gilbert and Amy must band together to stand up to the criminals, face their fears and rescue their new–but rather “ancient”–friend.

Today’s Top 10 most-watched movies list on Netflix is filled with a handful of interesting films, such as the new Christmas rom-com Holidate, which is currently sitting at #1. There are quite a few other seasonal pics hanging out on there, too, like Christmas to Order, Christmas Under Wraps, and My Christmas Inn. So, it’s clear that subscribers are already diving headfirst into the holidays.
Of course, it’s no secret that when Netflix added their Top 10 system earlier this year, it made it much easier for folks to keep an eye on what was popular on the service around the world. Most surprisingly, however, is just how often overlooked or forgotten films tend to pop up in the rankings and find a whole new audience.
One such pic that stands out on the Top 10 most-watched movies list today is an often forgotten Chris Evans effort that you may want to give a look.

Post-Ghostbusters but pre-Julie and the Phantoms, Disney Channel was busy dishing out tricks and treats with Halloween movies like Under Wraps, Halloweentown, and Mom's Got a Date With a Vampire. But, almost 20 years since its release date, one movie I can't shake from the back of my mind is The Scream Team, mainly because the plot is surprisingly terrifying. I used to have nightmares about this movie every October as a kid, so it only felt natural that I should check it out again as an adult, and let me tell ya, those nightmares were 100 percent justified.
Zachariah Kull, the villain of the film, was an inventor in the 1800s who burned down his cabin with his wife still inside. While it's later proven that the fire was an accident sparked by a faulty invention he created using natural gas, Zachariah is seen as a criminal for centuries because of town lore.

[To get you into the spooky spirit, the Daily Dead team is spotlighting double features that we think would be fun to watch this Halloween season. Check here for more double feature recommendations and other Halloween 2017 coverage.]
There’s nothing quite like an outside threat to bring a family together, especially when that threat is of the undead variety. Siblings may not always get along, but when your sister’s soul is sought by a coven of witches, or when your mom is eyed as an eternal bride by a coffin-dwelling creep, it’s time to take those Sister Sledge lyrics to heart and become a family that can overcome anything—including wicked spells and sharp fangs. Set on respective fateful nights where the future of a homestead hangs in the balance and its up to siblings to save it, Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire and Hocus Pocus are family-friendly films that make for a great double feature during the Halloween season.

The title of this week’s Younger is probably the most on the nose title the series has ever had. “A Novel Marriage” was quite literal in revolving around Pauline’s book, a satire of her life being married to Charles. While Pauline puts the past behind her with this novel, she is completely unaware of the triangle she is apart of. As much as this episode was about Pauline, Liza, and Charles’s triangle, it put a lot of emphasis on the importance of a woman’s career in her life. Liza and Pauline have similar stories, and in different ways are choosing

The allure of the original “Blair Witch Project” had much to do with the popular perception that it was “real” — that this camcorder footage was unscripted and documenting something that actually occurred in the woods of Maryland. It didn’t, of course, but the shoestring production’s influence on the horror genre was massive in terms of both content and marketing. 17 years later, it appears as though Adam Wingard’s “Blair Witch” might be trying to recapture that spirit via a potentially fake Kickstarter page. (At least we hope it’s fake.)

It’s been 17 years since “The Blair Witch Project” changed the horror genre and independent filmmaking forever, and yet the new surprise sequel, “Blair Witch” (formerly known as “The Woods”) is hoping you’ve forgotten — at least a little bit. Helmed by Adam Wingard (“You’re Next,” “The Guest”) and written by his regular collaborator Simon Barrett, “Blair Witch” is shot, constructed and executed just like the original. And the slow-build fright fest will please genre purists — perhaps enough to reinvigorate the potential franchise — even if it feels all too familiar to the rest of us.
Starting in the very (scary) house we left off in — a fact given away in the trailer — Wingard and Barrett introduce us to four fresh faces, one of which holds close ties to a victim from the original. Driven to the woods for answers, the group also aims to make a documentary on their friend’s eerie journey.

Adam Wingard has become the de facto king of indie horror over the past several years thanks to hits like “You’re Next” and “The Guest,” and he recently brought chills to the small screen by directing Cinemax’s “Outcast” premiere, but he might just have his biggest hit with “The Woods.” The horror film just premiered at Comic-Con after months of mysterious anticipation (remember that debut trailer that touted the project as the scariest film ever made?), and with it comes a major bombshell of a revelation: “The Woods” is an official sequel to “The Blair Witch Project.”

With Disney keeping a firm grip on who can see "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" early (basically, nobody outside the studio), nothing is going be spoiled about the movie before opening day, barring Harrison Ford getting raging drunk and doing a Periscope session. So, we'll just have to decipher what we can from the clues that are emerging, most recently, in EW. First up, among the old school returning faces will be Carrie Fisher's Princess Leia, but Luke Skywalker's sister will have a new name. “She’s referred to as General,” J.J. Abrams said. “But … there’s a moment in the movie where a character sort of slips and calls her ‘Princess.’” Read More: Disney Will Not Screen 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Early For Awards Consideration To Keep Spoilers Under Wraps “The stakes are pretty high in the story for her, so there’s not much goofing around where Leia’s concerned,...

Under wraps since pre-production, details are slowly coming out for Terrence Malick‘s The Tree of Life. Fox Searchlight debuted the trailer late last year after announcing a May 2011 release date. We recently heard news from FX legend Douglas Trumbull (Blade Runner, 2001: A Space Odyssey), who is working on the film after a 27-year Hollywood break. Then, we got some runtime news and talk from composer Alexandre Desplat. Just a few days ago we got confirmation of dinosaurs and IMAX-rendered footage from the visual effects team. Now we’ve hit a goldmine of sorts.
Russian site Kinopoisk has released 72 new images from The Tree of Life. They aren’t official stills from the film, rather behind-the-scenes shots on production. We can see the crew in some of them, and they are refreshingly candid. Most of them feature Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain, and family with a few of Sean Penn.

Comedy Is Untitled, Details Remain Under Wraps For Now You could say Judd Apatow is slipping in his mainstream appeal. 2009's "Funny People" grossed $71 million worldwide, while 2008's "Knocked Up" cumed $219 million globally and 2005's "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" totaled $177 million the world round. That said, you could also say he's growing creatively as he is tackling more mature subjects now, or at least did with the Adam Sandler-led cancer comedy.
