Plot: Jaycen “Two Js” Jennings is a washed-up ex-professional football star who has hit rock bottom. When Jaycen is sentenced to community service coaching the Underdoggs, an unruly pee-wee football team in his hometown of Long Beach, California, he sees it as an opportunity to rebuild his public image and turn his life around. As Jaycen works to transform the foul-mouthed Underdoggs into top-notch champions, he reconnects with his past, including an old flame and a few of his ex-teammates, and rediscovers his love of the game.
Review: Underdog stories have always been popular fodder for movies. Redemption stories about athletes and tales of scrappy kids needing a mentor are equally popular. From The Bad News Bears to Little Giants and The Mighty Ducks, sports comedies have always found success. With The Underdoggs, that appeal is tested by taking the formula that made those aforementioned films successful and injecting them...

It is hard to believe (for people of a certain age), but the year 1994 was 30 years ago! For this week’s poll, we wanted to step back into the time machine and reminisce about what could possibly be considered one of the best years in cinema history. If, like me, you are in your thirties, 1994 holds a nostalgic place due to movies such as Blank Check, D2: The Mighty Ducks, Major League 2, Clifford, The Flintstones, Getting Even With Dad, Little Big League, Angels in the Outfield, The Little Rascals, Camp Nowhere, Richie Rich and Little Giants. The year also represented the huge breakout of comedy legend Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber were all released during that single calendar year.
But it wasn’t just movies aimed at a child’s heart that were released in 1994. The year also saw some genuine...

One of actor Devon Sawa’s first feature film roles was in Christina Ricci’s Casper. But the actor recently shared that he might not have even been in the film if it wasn’t for Ricci’s help.

Sawa has become a prominent actor in his own right. He’s grown his star-power through features like Final Destination and The Exorcism of Molly Hartley. He’s recently returned to the horror genre by appearing in SyFy’s Chucky series. But his feature film career started with the 1995 movie Casper, which was based on the classic animated television show. Sawa famously made an appearance as the friendly ghost in his human form. And it was all thanks to his co-star Ricci.

In the sixth episode of “Hacks’” excellent second season, Deborah (Jean Smart) gets hit on at the bar by a man, Jason, who’s young enough to “be my son.” She flippantly tries to dismiss him, thinking he’s just talking to her because she’s famous, until he asks her what she does. “You really don’t know?” she asks, incredulous. “No,” he says, shaking his head. “Should I?” “No,” she replies with a glint in her eye. Jason might not know who Deborah Vance is, but Emmy voters should definitely know and nominate the man who plays him: Devon Sawa.

Ed O’Neill is set to play Donald Sterling in the upcoming FX limited series “The Sterling Affairs,” Variety has learned.
The show was picked up to series at FX back in April. It is based on the ESPN 30 for 30 podcast of the same name. O’Neill joins previously announced stars Laurence Fishburne and Jacki Weaver.
The six-episode series tells the behind the scenes story of Doc Rivers (Fishburne) and the Los Angeles Clippers’ quest to bring a championship to one of the historically worst franchises in all of sports during the impending downfall of the team’s owner, Donald Sterling (O’Neill), whose notoriously racist behavior is brought to light amid the power struggle between his wife of 60+ years, Shelly Sterling (Weaver), and his mistress, V. Stiviano.
This will mark O’Neill’s first TV role since the finale of “Modern Family” in 2020. O’Neill starred on the single-cam sitcom...

It was pretty sweet to be a kid in the '90s. "The Sandlot," "Little Giants," "All That," so many movies and tv shows were geared toward us '80s babies, and a lot of it has stood the test of time. One of the classics of that era is "The Mighty Ducks," a film that introduced this South Carolina girl to hockey and Charlie Conway. Oh yeah, the rest of The Ducks, too.

Back in the 90s, Devon Sawa was just getting to be popular when he was a kid, as he started out in TV commercials and went into his debut in the movie Little Giants. To a lot of people, he looked like a star in the making since he was the type of kid that many could see going far since he could play the protagonist or the antagonist in equal measures and didn’t really come off as unrealistic. Much like many kid actors, he did manage to feel a little over the top with his acting at times, but

In an unprecedented move, Kate del Castillo’s Cholawood and Fabrica de Cine’s Gaston Pavlovich, producer of Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” and “Silence,” have teamed up with Endemol Shine Boomdog (Esb) to co-produce “El Agente Mexicano” (“The Mexican Agent”).
The series is loosely based on the true story of Francisco García, a young photographer who is recruited by the CIA after inadvertently saving President Kennedy from an assassination attempt during a 1962 visit to Mexico.
In the first season, now being penned by Rodrigo Ordoñez, the naive photographer transforms into a genuinely ruthless spy. Carlos Bolado is attached to direct what promises to include elements of action, suspense and a good dose of romance. Esb’s head of scripted, Leo Zimbron oversees the production, which will likely run for multiple seasons.
In 2019, the Spanish-language division of Endemol Shine North America inked an overall development and production pact with Pavlovich.

All streaming services go through a down period after the excitement of Spooky Season, it’s only natural. Thankfully with its list of new releases for November 2020, Hulu is making the best out of a barren pop culture landscape.
For starters, Hulu is premiering one of its major 2020 reboots this month as Animaniacs arrives on Nov. 20. Yakko, Wakko, Dot, and the rest of the Warner gang are set to return for this long-awaited revival of the animated classic. That’s about it as far as original series go but Hulu is also premiering original movies Greta, about climate activist Greta Thunberg on Nov. 13; and Run, a horror film starring Sarah Paulson, on Nov. 20.
Still, despite all the Animaniacs, Gretas, and Sarah Paulsons, the biggest hits this month might just be on the library content side of things. November 1 sees the arrival of some major TV properties. For starters, racy British...

Now that we’re just over halfway through October, it’s time to look ahead to what’s arriving on Hulu across November. And the penultimate month of the year is set to deliver a humungous haul of new movies and TV shows. In particular, fresh off their Huluween celebrations, the streaming service is celebrating Christmas early with a load of holiday-related titles dropping on November 1st.

Rick Moranis was the victim of an assault that was caught on surveillance footage Thursday morning on a New York City street.
The long-retired actor — who made a rare on-camera appearance for a Ryan Reynolds-starring commercial in September — was briefly hospitalized with head, back and hip pain before he was discharged. He then went to a nearby police precinct to report the attack, CBS New York reports.
Surveillance footage from the incident shows Moranis being punched in the head by a still-unknown assailant in what police called a “random unprovoked assault,...

Well, the unthinkable has happened. Nicole Anthony actually talked to the demon spawn (in her mind) that is Janelle Pierzina and her equally evil (in her mind) cohort Kaysar Ridha on “Big Brother 22: All-Stars” on Wednesday, and she maybe, just maybe, has realized she was wrong and effed this up badly.
After yet another day of bitching about Jaysar and threatening a house meeting, Nicole A. finally talked to Janelle, telling her that she felt like Jaysar used her and set her up. Janelle was basically like, “Wtf? Why would you think that? I’ve been trying to save you.” And Nicole A. told her that “everyone” thinks this was all “Janelle’s plan.” And you believed them.
“I don’t play like that,” Janelle said. “Why would I be trying to save you if it was my master plan to get you on the block?”
We don’t know either,...

Each decade has a defining film for childhood audiences. In the ‘90s, there was a surge of children’s sports movies like The Mighty Ducks, Rookie of the Year, Angels in the Outfield, and Little Giants. However, none withstood the test of time quite like the archetypal coming-of-age story The Sandlot. Written and directed by David […]

In this episode, Justin, Chris and Mike return to the McU for Ant-Man and The Wasp, starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer! We also discuss everthing we've seen and what been on our mind's since the last epsiode.
The Ant-Man and The Wasp review does contain a spoiler free section, followed by an in-depth review of the movie. However, before we get to the main review, we've got to go over everthing we've been watching. First up, Justin re-watched the super mega-hit, It (2017). Then he continues his trip down memory lane this week with the Ed O'Neill and Rick Moranis classic kids movie, Little Giants (1994). Chris and Mike watched the same two movies this week and decided to give some mini-reviews. First, they discuss Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado, starring Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro and whether or not it holds up the first.

The screenwriter behind such family fare as Cool Runnings, Little Giants, and Snow Dogs, Tommy Swerdlow spent nearly two decades addicted to heroin and methadone, and with any addiction also comes the unceasing search for the next fix. He’s now channeled these experiences for his directorial debut, A Thousand Junkies, and we’re pleased to premiere the trailer today courtesy of The Orchard. Starring alongside co-writer Tj Bowen and the late Blake Heron–both of whom Swerdlow met in AA–one can’t imagine a more authentic rendering of such a life-consuming addiction than what this pitch-black buddy comedy captures.
“The film embodies a statement made by Jerry Stahl, writer of Permanent Midnight: a good friend who is a junkie will do all of your drugs and then spend the day helping you look for them,” John Fink said in our Tribeca Film Festival review. “A Thousand Junkies...

Grab your beer, set your lineups and welcome the new football season! Yes, thats right! The 2017-2018 NFL season is here and to help kickoff this season I’ve decided to do a top five dedicated to films about the sport. I have always loved the sport since I was a kid. From playing “Tecmo Bowl”, “Madden” just about every year and NFL Blitz to playing the real thing for a number of years. I love the sport almost as much as I love movies. When you put the two together you can get some really memorable films. Here’s my picks for top five football films.
Little Giants
It seems like each sport has at least one film made for children. Baseball has Sandlot, hockey has Mighty Ducks, basketball has Space Jam and so on. Well when it comes to football that film is Little Giants. The Little Giants...

The feature directorial debut of screenwriter Tommy Swerdlow, A Thousand Junkies strikes a nerve and strikes a delicate tonal balance, often making the viewer laugh and cringe from painful identification within a matter of seconds. Every year, celebrities, filmmakers, journalists and movie fans flock to the Tribeca neighborhood in lower Manhattan for the Tribeca Film Festival, an illustrious celebration of film and television that features some of the most exciting projects and panel discussions of any media festival in the country.
Founded by Jane Rosenthal, Robert De Niro and Craig Hatkoff in 2001, shortly after the attacks of 9/11, the festival has helped revitalize the city and remind both filmmakers and fans alike of New York City’s valued place in film and TV while becoming a welcoming community for voices and perspectives from all over the world. “It’s also a fabric of our city. So whether or not it’s a film from Israel or Palestine or something for kids, our festival was about community and it still is,” Rosenthal tells Et. “It’s about bringing community together.”

Today I begin a new series that combines my fondness for film with the joy I have of being a parent. Like most geek dads or dads in general I am eager to share the things I have a passion for with my son. Growing up I can remember my dad doing the same. As a proud Air Force veteran with a father who made his living working for the Rail Road my dad grew up with his own passions and hobbies. Some of my greatest memories as a child are the times I spent seeing my dad gushing at train museums, getting lost in amazement at air shows, or simply try to gather as much information as possible about World War II. Now as I am closing in on the two year mark of being a dad I am beginning to brainstorm on what movies are must sees for my son.

Having fulfilled the role of lovable losers for decades now, the Chicago Cubs have a lot of goodwill in their first World Series appearance since 1945. (They also have a one-game deficit to overcome, but let’s try not to think about that.) Among their celebrity fans is Daniel Stern, whom you might recognize as Phil Brickman from “Rookie of the Year” — a standout from the mid-’90s halcyon days of kids’ sports movies (see also: “Little Big League,” “Air Bud,” “Little Giants,” “The Big Green”) that he also directed.

Devon Sawa has probably held a special place in your heart since the '90s. In addition to his role in Casper and the iconic line of "Can I keep you?," Devon turned into a full-on heartthrob with other roles in hits like Now and Then and Little Giants. The actor has definitely grown up since those days, but that doesn't mean he's gotten any less adorable. Devon has been married to his wife, Dawni Sahanovitch, since 2010, and the couple have two kids together, 2-year-old son Hudson and daughter Scarlett, who was born in March 2016. While their daughter only recently joined their brood, Devon and Dawni have documented so many cute family moments with their little boy. While we wait for even more snaps of the new family of four, keep reading to see their best moments so far!

Some really sad news. Screenwriter and producer Michael Goldberg has died, from the brain and sinus cancer that he'd been battling for over a year. He was 55 years old.
Goldberg's list of credits include the screenplay to Little Giants, Bushwhacked and Snow Dogs. He also wrote and directed The Lovemaster back in 1997. Yet it's Cool Runnings that's likely to be the project of his closest to many of our hearts. The 1993 comedy remains a firm, witty favourite, and the script - which Goldberg co-wrote with Lynn Siefert and Tommy Swerdlow - was his first work to make it to the big screen.
Rest in peace Mr Goldberg. 55 is no age. And thank you for the chuckles.
