This was the final non-western role for Randolph Scott, who portrays Johnny. From 1948 until he retired in 1962, he acted only in Westerns.
Inexplicably miscast as Aunt Matilda, an old matriarch who raised three boys, Ann Harding was younger than some of the actors who played her sons. At the time the film was released, Ann was 45 years old, and her sons - Randolph Scott was 47, George Raft was 46 and George Brent was 43.
Dennis Hoey, who plays Williams the Butler, is known to fans of the Basil Rathbone-starring Sherlock Holmes films because he appears in six of them playing Inspector Lestrade beginning with Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon (1942).
