- Sheriff John Higgins quits and goes into prospecting after he thinks he has killed his best friend Dan in shooting it out with robbers. He encounters Dan's daughter who takes over her father's ranch. Then she finds out about his past.

- Hagan is rustling horses lead by a white stallion from a Government restricted area. Young Danny Saunders captures the horse who then kills Hagen's mare. Hagen needs the white stallion and when Danny is hurt during the beaking of the horse, his mother gives the horse to Hagan. Upset, Danny runs away to be with the horse. His mother chases after him and they are both made prisoners when they see Hagan's rustling operation.
- A bunch of businessmen are out to kidnap a former partner's son so he won't squeal on them. Guess who must stop them.
- Gene and his buddies discover that the ranch they bought is really a dairy farm. And worse, it's subject to intimidation from a protection racket that prevents dairy products from safely reaching the market.
- Gene goes after the badguys after they kidnap the baby he should have been babysitting.
- Out-of-work cowboys Kansas Jones and Chito Rafferty are offered jobs at pretty Dusty Willis' ranch after saving her from a beating by saloon owner Clint Burrows. Dusty's good-hearted but weak-willed brother Harry, adding to his $3000 gambling debt to Willis, reluctantly agrees to pay it off by allowing the Ringo Kid, Burrows' vicious hired gun, to rustle cattle from his sister's ranch. Kansas intervenes, deters the rustlers and persuades Harry to confess his involvement to Dusty. Kansas, sent into town by Dusty to pay off Harry's debts, suddenly finds himself on the wrong side of the law, wrongly accused of murder and must rely on Dusty's belief in his innocence for his salvation.
- Tex and sidekick Grass join McGill's traveling show. When Price has McGill's wagons burned, Tex becomes the county tax collector to earn money. This leads to trouble as one of those owing money is Price who says he will not pay.
- The drought-plagued ranchers of Sundown have to market their cattle at a loss in order to meet mortgage payments held by banker Cylus Cuttler. Then, Sheriff Tex Rockett is forced to quarantine all the cattle on the local ranches because of a hoof-and-mouth disease outbreak. Steve Davis herds his cattle to the railhead anyway, and Tex is forced to arrest him. Urged on by the banker's son, Nick Cuttler, the angry ranchers storm the jail, but Steve's sister Bee persuades them to await the trial. Steve, with Nick's help, breaks jail and is told he must kill Tex to aid the ranchers. Meanwhile, government man Bret Stockton and Tex see Nick and his men treating cattle in an unusual way. Tex finally proves that the Cuttlers have been treating the cattle with acid to give a false impression of the hoof-and-mouth disease.
- When the Governor gets Dawson to go after Ace Carter and his gang, Dawson gets him to release four prisoners into his custody. Arriving in town, Carter frames Dawson for murder and his stooge Judge sentences him to be hung. The four ex-convicts arrive in time to save Dawson but one of the four is a double-crosser and this means more trouble for Dawson.
- Bad seed Steve Taylor is pulled out of a saloon by his brother Tim after Steve kills cheating poker player Hoyt Parker in self defense. Steve, who's been financing his gambling addiction with money from his fiancée, is convinced by Tim to give himself up for trial. Found guilty without crucial testimony of his innocence by saloon girl Flora Trigby, who has fled to Mexico, the two brothers make their getaway to a secret hideout, where Tim heads out to find Flora. Tim's enthusiasm for protecting his brother lessens when he returns with Flora and learns someone matching Steve's description has held up the stage and killed passenger Nash Prescott, Parker's co-partner and Steve's chief accuser at the trial.
- Against Ben's orders, Jamie drives a supply wagon on a route he's not supposed to; he loses control and wrecks the wagon. Jamie escapes uninjured but one of the horses is so badly hurt it has to be shot. To teach Jamie a lesson in responsibility, Ben decides to take his "adopted" son on an extended tour of the Ponderosa, to see how various residents and employees deal with their mistakes. The lesson makes an impression on Jamie, who is then asked to carve his name on the "Witness Tree," signifying he is the latest "family member" to take "The Grand Swing" (Hoss and Little Joe had previously made the trip).
