Considering the timely story of No.1 With a Bullet it is surprising, not more attention has been paid towards it. It is this story about a woman facing off against a culture that is so eager to demonize her even though she is, in fact, the victim. Existing in a near future that is a slight exaggeration of the world we currently live. Where video taping someone without their knowledge is even easier than it is now. So much so her boss recording them having sex without her knowledge. As is often the case that tape leaked out and now they are both dealing with the consequences.
So far it has taken that concept and given a perspective that is vital to understand. Great intentions do not always lead to great results. This was the first issue of the series that majorly stumbled,...

Goners is one of the best current horror comics on the stands and is a unique twist on the genre with young protagonists that actually talk like frightened kids and a huge bestiary of monsters drawn from folklore and world mythology. The comics features a mystery plot with twists and turns and some nifty world-building featuring demons, monsters, and the Latimer family. The trailer will give you taste of the art style, character designs, and what critics have said about the series so far. And if you want to learn more about the creation and background of Goners, check out this interview Sound on Sight did with writer Jacob Semahn.

Many stories start at the beginning, but Goners, a new comic book series from Image Comics, begins at the end… the end of a family tragedy that is the beginning of a hellish time for two siblings hunted by supernatural forces ranging from ferocious phantoms to sharp-beaked Ekeks and many more malevolent monsters and demons.
The first four issues of Jacob Semahn and Jorge Corona's new series feature panels packed with interesting characters and monstrous mayhem aplenty, making for a truly memorable horror-comedy experience that shows no signs of slowing down.
Another strong entry to the series, Goners #5, hits shelves next Wednesday, and we've been provided with a set of preview pages to give you a look at the Lovecraftian horrors awaiting Josiah and Zoe Latimer at the Bellweather Sanatorium.

With issue #4 of this ambitious horror story hitting shelves today, I caught up with Goners co-creator/writer Jacob Semahn in a Q&A feature to discuss the wide-ranging influences (including John F. Kennedy’s assassination and Stephen King’s works) of his series, the often overlooked creatures lurking within the panels of Goners, what lies ahead for characters and readers alike, and much more. We also have a set of preview pages from Goners #4, teasing the carnage brought upon the Massachusetts town of King’s Bluff by a Skin-Walker and his furry friends.

“A world, where the mythical co-exist with humanity, offers an alternative history where wars, civil rights, and scientific innovation are shown through a warped supernatural mirror. From the colonization of Roanoke to the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Latimer Family through the centuries have been the famous first line of defense against all that go bump in the night. Goners #1
Written by Jacob Semahn

Colored by Gabriel Cassata
Published by Image Comics
After a confusing opening page with an inconsistent color scheme of red, grey, and brown, Goners #1 gathers itself with a nice lead-in hook of two kids (Zoe and Josiah Latimer) watching their parents kill monsters on reality TV. Writer Jacob Semahn builds suspense with a single panel news report of the state’s governor being found dead in the mansion where Zoe and Josiah’s parents, Evelyn and Raleigh Latimer, are fighting monsters. This tiny note of tension is drowned in brightly colored sibling squabbles, sepia-toned flashbacks, and Raleigh Latimer doing his best Bruce Campbell. Jorge Corona’s art may be described as cartoonish with oversized arms, big anime eyes, and non-existent feet. However, even though it’s not “realistic”, it fits the fast moving nature of the story as Zoe and Josiah...

This past week I had the pleasure of interviewing Jacob Semahn, the writer on the upcoming supernatural mystery series Goners from Image Comics. Before working on Goners, Semahn was a producer on American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. He is currently working in animation for Man of Action and has written screenplays for Marvel’s Avengers Assemble and Ultimate Spider-Man shows. The basic premise of Goners (from the Image Comics solicit) is a “bold new historical fantasy mystery about a very peculiar family, the Latimer Family, who have been humanity’s lone defense against paranormal assault throughout history”.
Sound on Sight: What got you interested in the comics medium? What was the first comic that you remember reading?
Jacob Semahn: The first comic I ever read was Infinity War #1. I picked it up at 7/11 when I was a kid. I think I might have been nine,...
