Reneé Rapp called for an “immediate” and “permanent ceasefire” in Gaza during the GLAAD Media Awards, held Thursday night at The Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles.
“We’re in a room of very influential people, very privileged people, which is exciting and also a huge privilege to be a part of that,” Rapp said during a speech accepting her award for outstanding music artist. “Having said that, I’d like to take the opportunity to show support and call for an immediate ceasefire and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.”
Rapp’s call for action over the ongoing Gaza conflict was met with applause, as the singer and actor finished off her time on stage with a plea for the audience “to continue to advocate for yourselves, continue to advocate for your friends, your queer friends and for those who can’t advocate for themselves.”

“Ted Lasso,” “Yellowjackets,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and Renee Rapp were just a few of the winners from the 35th annual GLAAD Media Awards, held Thursday night at the Beverly Hilton.
It’s the first of two dual ceremonies — the second happens May 11 in New York City — but we’ll go out on a limb and say it’s the best one because it’s first, and in Los Angeles (just kidding). And prior to the awards actually being handed out, the stars were out in force with some absolutely iconic looks for the Red Carpet.
Among them were Sydney Sweeney, Wayne Brady, Chlöe, Jason Sudeikis, Niecy Nash, and that’s barely a sample. Read on and see some of the best outfits and fiercest attitudes from the GLAAD Media Awards 2024.

“Many people don’t know this but 35 years ago, my brother Jeffrey Lee passed away when he was just 29-years-old from AIDS,” Winfrey said.
“Growing up at the time we did in the community we did, we didn’t have the language to understand or to speak about sexuality and gender in the way that we do now,” she continued.

Upon walking into the Governors Gala, statuette in hand and partner Jessica Betts on her arm, “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” star Niecy Nash-Betts, who gave the speech of the night upon accepting the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, joked “I fell short of saying ‘About damn time,’” upon being reminded this was her fifth nomination (and fourth show she’s been nominated for.)

Niecy Nash-Betts took home her first Primetime Emmy Award on Monday, and the five-time nominee took the opportunity to celebrate herself for the milestone achievement. Up top, the actress thanked God for “this divine moment;” then Murphy, Netflix, the Academy voters and her wife, Jessica Betts. But then, it was time for some self-love.
“And you know who I want to thank? I want to thank me for believing in me and doing what they said I could not do,” the actress said during her acceptance speech. “And I want to say to myself in front of all these beautiful people, go on girl with your bad self. You did that!”
Nash-Betts won the prize in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series, for her performance in Ryan Murphy’s “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.” Starring alongside Evan Peters, Nash-Betts plays Dahmer’s suspicious neighbor,...

Niecy Nash-Betts may be the nicest person in Hollywood.
In a town where getting your next role could be cutthroat, Nash-Betts actually tells her actor friends to audition for roles that she may already be reading for.
“Before I was even cast in ‘Getting On’ on HBO — I had not even gone in yet — I called every actress I knew and was like, ‘This is going to be something. Get in on this,’” Nash-Betts tells me on the latest episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast. “My daughter was like, ‘Why are you telling all these girls? Somebody’s going to get your part,’ and I said, ’No, my part is my part. If it’s my part, it was meant to be. And if it’s not, how wonderful is it that I was a conduit for one of my friends getting a job?’ No, there’s room. We can all get in there.

The Rookie: Feds is stuck in renewal limbo. The show wrapped up its first season in May 2022, but ABC still hasn’t announced if it will return for season 2. However, series star Niecy Nash-Betts says she’s eager to reprise her role as FBI agent Simone Clark.

While ABC has announced cancellation or renewal decisions for most of its scripted series, The Rookie: Feds remains in limbo. The Rookie spinoff premiered in September 2022 and quickly scored a full-season order. It averaged 4.3 million viewers through its season 1 run and is near the bottom of the pack in terms of ABC dramas, according to TVLine.
Due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, it may be some time before the network makes a decision about the fate of The Rookie: Feds.

Celebrities are spreading positivity for Pride Month this year with celebratory messages and urgent calls to action. In honor of the month-long celebration of love, acceptance, and identity for LGBTQ+ voices, stars are showing their support both as allies and members of the community in many ways - from participating in Pride events to proudly waving rainbow flags.
This has been a challenging year as new anti-lgbtq+ and anti-drag laws have been introduced into legislation, but celebs like Lizzo, Pedro Pascal, Jamie Lee Curtis, Gabrielle Union, and more have been vocal about their protests against them. Speaking on the pressing matter of celebrating Pride Month, this year especially, actor and activist Margaret Cho told Hollywood Life in an interview published on June 1, "Pride feels more urgent and needed. We have to stand up for our rights like never before."
Celebrities are celebrating Pride Month in other ways, too, this year.

June is Gay Pride Month.
It’s a time for those who identify as LGBTQ and their supporters to not only celebrate, but also bring awareness to divisive legislation that seeks to strip individual freedoms and divide rather than unite.
Pride celebrations big and small will be held in cities around the world.
In Los Angeles, festivities will take place over two weekends. On Sunday, June 4, the city of West Hollywood, aka WeHo, held its famous Pride Parade. Transgender model Laith Ashley, Niecy Nash-Betts and Jessica Betts, Melissa McCarthy and “RuPaul’s Drag Race” were named WeHo Pride Parade Icons.
The following Sunday, June 11, was Los Angeles Pride, with Margaret Cho named Icon Grand Marshall, the late Leslie Jordan posthumously named Legacy Grand Marshall and the ACLU of Southern California named Community Grand Marshall.

“The Rookie: Feds” remains on the bubble, as one of two shows at ABC awaiting news regarding a renewal — and its star, Niecy Nash-Betts, is crossing her fingers for a second season.
Nash-Betts has had an in-demand year, starring in Netflix’s “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” and hosting Fox’s gameshow “Don’t Forget the Lyrics,” in addition to headlining “The Rookie: Feds.” And she’s hoping to keep her busy schedule going, continuing to play her character, Simone Clark, on the ABC police procedural.

“Obviously, there’s a lot of parts of this country where people don’t feel safe so we have to band together to make people as safe as we can,” country music star Orville Peck told the audience at the WeHo Pride’s Outloud music festival on Saturday, referring to the wave of anti-trans and anti-drag legislation that is upending lives and spreading fear in states across the country, including Texas and Florida. But, noted Peck, a judge in Tennessee had just a day earlier ruled that the state’s recently passed law forbidding drag performances in public is unconstitutional, drawing cheers from the thousands in the crowd.
That scene, mixing politics, purpose and performance, was one of many similar ones that unfolded throughout the second annual WeHo Pride, held over the weekend of June 2-4 in West Hollywood, California.

Everyone can feel the love when Niecy Nash and Jessica Betts take on the red carpet together. On May 31, the couple stepped out for The Hollywood Reporter's second annual "Raising Our Voices" Luncheon in LA, which aims to promote diversity and inclusion ahead of Pride Month. At the event, the two looked at one another adoringly, kissing on the carpet and laughing like they were the only people in the room. Nash initially befriended Betts after discovering her music in 2015; the pair eventually fell for each other and tied the knot in August 2020.
"I loved her before I was in love with her because she is such a special human being," Nash told People in 2020, explaining how her relationship with Betts evolved from a friendship into a whirlwind romance. Niecy Nash accepted the award for best supporting actor in a movie or miniseries at the Critics' Choice Awards with an emotional speech. The actor played Jeffrey Dahmer's neighbor Glenda Cleveland in Ryan Murphy's "Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story," and in her speech, she looked back on her journey in the entertainment industry, going back to where it all began.
"When I decided to become an actor - I saw myself doing drama," she said at the Jan 15. event. "They said, stay in your comedy lane. Some people want to leave you where they meet you. I did what I knew to do: I cried, and I told my mother," she continued. "I said, 'Don't you think I'm a good dramatic actress?' She said, 'Girl, I don't, but you can be. You find the best class in this town, and I will work overtime to pay for it.

Writer-producer Ryan Murphy made sure to share in the glow while accepting his honorary Golden Globe Award on Tuesday night. The “Glee” and “American Horror Story” creator won the Carol Burnett Award for “outstanding contributions to television on or off the screen.” The special prize was first issued to Burnett in 2019, and the others who have won are Ellen DeGeneres and Norman Lear. Love is in the air. Well, not so much. There's thirst, sabotage, betrayal, and a marriage ending.
The Rookie: Feds Season 1 Episode 3 mainly focuses on the romantic side of the characters. As Simone meets someone, Cutty, too, a betrayer from her past, revisits Laura, and Carter's marriage is over.
The rookies check off the second item in their training before being accepted into the FBI. What better way to do this if not by using a case? In the midst of this all, affairs of the heart are knocking.
That opener was insane. Bob just up and died on our rookies. His death hits home for Garza because of the similarities in their circumstances. It dawns on him that if he doesn't take it easy and take his meds, then the heart could give out at any time.
The current case was also a great one, worthy of The Rookie.

To be a network police or medical procedural in the past decade is to want for a companion series. From there, the goal is to crawl kudzu-like across the schedule until the primetime grid is bespeckled with colons and occasionally clogged with three-hour crossover events. Still, ABC’s “The Rookie,” now in its fifth season, has never seemed an obvious choice for the Dick Wolf treatment.
Not because the show lacks ambition, though it does possess the happy-go-lucky quirk of a “Characters Welcome”-era USA drama. But “The Rookie” puts all its weight on the title character and stars the supernaturally charming Nathan Fillion, the kind of performer whose charisma can cut through even the schlockiest material. Creating a spinoff would require an equally charismatic performer who, like Fillion, can go from gravitas to goofiness at a moment’s notice. Enter Niecy Nash-Betts, just such a performer, to topline “The Rookie: Feds,...

Kourtney Kardashian just became the first Kardashian-Jenner family member to attend the Oscars. The 42-year-old reality star popped up at Dolby Theatre for the award show with fiancé Travis Barker on March 27, marking their first red carpet appearance since getting engaged in October. And the award for cutest couple on the Oscars red carpet goes to . . . Niecy Nash and Jessica Betts. The couple - who tied the knot in August 2020 - attended the award show for the first time together on March 27. Nash stunned in a ruffled pink gown with a high leg slit and carried a clutch purse that read "Wifey For Lifey," while Betts wore an off-white suit, metallic-threaded shirt, and white bow loafers. They shared some tender moments while making their way into the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, walking hand in hand and putting their love on display for the cameras.
Nash and Betts's date night at the Oscars comes just one month after they made history as the first same-sex couple to grace the cover of "Essence" magazine. Opening up about their relationship to the publication, Nash said, "The least of my attraction is gender. What I was and...

For the second year in a row, “Schitt’s Creek” won for outstanding comedy series at the 32nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards. Writer-star-executive producer Dan Levy accepted the prize on behalf of the series.
“When we set out to make ‘Schitt’s Creek,’ we simply wanted to tell funny and hopefully meaningful stories about personal growth, love, empowerment and bebe crows,” Levy said in his acceptance speech. “We had no idea how that town would become such a safe space for our viewers as well. But in reality, there is still so much work that needs to be done, and I cannot thank GLAAD enough for their relentless pursuit of trying to ensure that we can one day live in a world where our community feels that same kind of support.”
Niecy Nash hosted the virtual ceremony, which aired on GLAAD’s YouTube channel. The event will also stream on Hulu beginning at 10 p.

Niecy Nash was in bed late one Sunday evening earlier this year when she got a frantic call from her team of reps: “The Masked Singer” host Nick Cannon had tested positive for Covid-19 on the eve of production for Season 5. Would she be available to fill in?
“I was like, ‘you had me at hello,'” Nash tells Variety. “Of course, my immediate thought was, ‘Is Nick Cannon Ok?’ And after that I was like, I would love to. And then two days later, there I was.”
Now, as her time guest hosting “The Masked Singer” is likely winding down — Wednesday is the fifth episode of Season 5, which means Cannon’s return should be coming shortly — Nash says she had a blast. “It’s a really good time. I mean, it involves a lot of the things that I like: music, costumes, sequins, eyelashes and comedy. All of my favorite things.
