Glen Powell is acing at his fame game of winning hearts over quite spectacularly, considering how he has not only won fans over from all around the globe but even has his co-stars enchanted by his charmingly alluring personality. He can create chemistry with just anyone thanks to his remarkable acting chops, and Adria Arjona’s statement about him stands as proof of the same.

This happened recently at a very special event that honored Powell with a Hall of Famer position, where his Hit Man co-star Arjona was present as well. Not only did the 32-year-old Puerto Rican actress have a ton of praises to heave her co-star and on-screen love interest with, but she even went so far as to claim that this wasn’t his summer, but rather, it was his decade.

Richard Linklater just had his hometown premiere for “Hit Man” in Austin May 15, at which his star and co-writer Glen Powell was inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame. But he’s already wrapped his next movie, “Nouvelle Vague.”
Shot in Paris, “Nouvelle Vague” tells the story of Jean-Luc Godard making his jump from Cahiers du Cinema film critic (Cahiers is also fittingly where the first look images from “Nouvelle Vague” made their debut) to filmmaker with the making of his first movie, “Breathless.” Guillaume Marbeck is Godard, and Zoe Deutsch plays his star Jean Seberg.
On the red carpet of the “Hit Man” premiere, Linklater talked to IndieWire about what he hopes viewers take away from “Nouvelle Vague” and, especially, what we can learn from the French New Wave filmmakers at this moment when there’s such doom and gloom about the future of cinema.

MGM/Imax’s The Blue Angels lands a hefty $1.3 million on just 255 domestic Imax screens from limited showtimes in the large format exhibitor’s exclusive theatrical engagement. The Paul Crowder film, with Glen Powell and Bad Robot as producers, follows the Navy’s famed demonstration flying squadron. It also “ushers in a new era for IMAX Documentaries, or Docu-busters,” the company said. It’s no. 9 at the domestic box office
It’s got a weeklong run before hitting Prime Video. The feature-length version for Imax multiplex locations will be followed later by a 45-minute, traditional Imax documentary version for Imax institutional locations.
I Saw The TV Glow from A24 had an impressive expansion, grossing $1+ million on just 469 screens. The Jane Shoenbrun (We’re All Going To The World’s Fair) coming of age sci-fi stars Justice Smith and Bridgette Lundy-Paine as queer teenagers navigating life in the 1990s suburbs. The film has...

If there’s anything superhero movies try to stay away from over the past years, it’s the exhibition of s*x scenes. The majority of comic book films don’t show this type of mature theme as it would affect the rating and viewership.
Avengers: Infinity War / Marvel Studios
This is the dilemma of renowned director Richard Linklater when it comes to creating movies. The lack of intimate scenes in superhero films has swiftly become the trend in Hollywood.

Antony Starr is perhaps the face of morally complex characters in today’s day and age. From The Boys to Banshee, complexity is something he carries in front of the camera like no one else. The darkness within a character takes a great amount of skill to exude and that is something the actor excels at. The patience and dedication it takes is what fans appreciate wholeheartedly.

While Starr isn’t typecasted in the role of a character battling his inner self through the darkness within him, there is no doubt that he plays the part perfectly. He may not be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the DC Universe yet but he has shown through Homelander that a role in the franchises wouldn’t be an opportunity anyone would regret. As such, the possibility may be nigh.

Tom Cruise has portrayed unforgettable characters in numerous films, but Top Gun stands out as one of his most iconic performances. Despite his breathtaking stunts in the Mission: Impossible franchise and outstanding roles in other movies, Cruise’s portrayal of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in Top Gun will be remembered for generations to come.
Tom Cruise as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell from Top Gun
What makes the movie even more special is the mesmerizing aerial scenes and the way the movie captures the thrill and danger of naval aviation. While the chemistry between Cruise’s character and his fellow pilots adds an extra layer of excitement to the film, it is heartbreaking to think that Cruise might have never starred as Marevrick if it wasn’t for a US Navy flight squad.

Director Richard Linklater rues that Hollywood has taken to creating sexless characters and superheroes without genitalia.
The writer/director of films including the Before trilogy and Boyhood is behind Netflix’s Hit Man, one of the standout successes at last year’s Venice Film Festival. Linklater calls the movie, starring Glen Powell and Adria Arjona, a “sexy crime thriller meets screwball comedy” and says the plot hinges on Arjanoa’s character Maddy being “the one he will risk everything for, just to sleep with her.”
Linklater told The Times of London: “Sex and violence is what cinema is great at. Sex was always the great seller; I don’t know why they backed off from that. Hollywood started feeding this new generation characters that were sexless. Superheroes don’t have sex. They don’t have genitalia, frankly.”

Antony Starr does an incredible job as The Boys’ villain and main antagonist, Homelander. While playing a narcissistic, murderous, moral-less character can be tiring and challenging, the actor has done an incredible job throughout the Prime Video series. Slated to get even more unhinged in the upcoming Season 4 of the series, the actor’s performance is one of the main draws for fans of the series.

His impeccable portrayal of Homelander has not only made him famous but also seemingly opened a door of opportunities for him as fans have been busy casting him in various DC and Marvel roles. And after a recent update by James Gunn, the calls for him to play Reverse Flash have gained traction again.

When Glen Powell was inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame in Austin May 15, there was one obvious person to give him the honor: The director who discovered Powell, when the actor was just 14 years old, Robert Rodriguez.
Powell grew up in Austin right at the moment that it was starting to become a solid film production hub, thanks in large part to Rodriguez, the auteur behind “El Mariachi” and “From Dusk Till Dawn” and who’d founded Austin’s Troublemaker Studios. When Rodriguez was casting for “Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over,” he was looking for a number of “local hires” to round out the cast.
“I remember distinctly how surprised I was [by Powell] because we’d cast a bunch of people from L.A.,” Rodriguez told IndieWire at the red carpet for the induction — which was also the Austin premiere of Netflix’s “Hit Man,” starring Powell and directed by Richard Linklater.

Glen Powell is one of those rapidly rising actors in the entertainment industry, with each new project launching him to heights more extraordinary than ever before. In fact, he has even starred alongside multiple other A-listers, including Tom Cruise, on 2022’s critically acclaimed action-adventure masterpiece, Top Gun: Maverick, where Powell played Lt. Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin.

Since then, there has been a lot of buzz surrounding the pair’s next collaboration, which was further given a structure by reports of a third film in Cruise’s saga being in development. Moreover, Cruise himself added fuel to all of these reports through his recent comment praising his former co-star, which unarguably hinted that Powell and he may be returning for this very third film.

Ryan Reynolds’ introduction to the superhero realm wasn’t exactly amusing. Not long after playing Deadpool in one of the lowest-rated X-Men entries, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, in 2011, the actor starred as Hal Jordan in the live-action Green Lantern movie. Despite having a huge budget, the movie was criticized for its choppy CGI, especially the suit, which was done entirely in CGI, and the apparent plans of branding it as the first Dceu entry were scrapped.
While Reynolds was able to recoup from his Deadpool debacle, the Lanterns are yet to make their way back to the big screen, and fans have now taken matters into their own hands.

I don’t live in tornado country, so I’ve never experienced one, but they seem pretty frightening. However, Twisters star Glen Powell does have a history with tornados, and he told Total Film that he was able to bring that experience to his role.
“It’s actually something I got to incorporate a little bit into the movie,” Powell said. “I had an experience with this tornado in Jarrell, Texas. It was an F5 – one of the big ones. It decimated Jarrell. I was outrunning it with my aunt Taffy, and a car full of cousins. And I remember us having to take shelter. It didn’t get close enough to do any damage to us, but I remember the fear of being on the road when, you know, the biggest imaginable one was kind of coming through.“

Glen Powell’s journey to superstardom began in a creative writing class at Austin’s Westwood High School. He was the only one of the kids who was trying his hand at writing screenplays.
“My teacher, Dr. [F.J.] Schaak was like, ‘Hey, you love writing screenplays. There is no better guy than Richard Linklater. Study all of his movies,'” the actor told IndieWire.
Through Schaak, Powell, who’d already been pursuing acting — his name is still written on the dressing room wall of Austin’s Paramount Theatre, where he performed in “The Sound of Music” as a teenager — met Linklater as well. And Linklater’s longtime editor Sandra Adair spoke to his class.
“I remember watching ‘Waking Life’ in his class, and obviously ‘Dazed,'” Powell said. “And we were sitting there going, ‘Man, this guy can do ‘Before Sunset,’ all these things,’ and we were just like, ‘This guy can kind of do anything,...

Arjona referenced the recent “summer of Glen Powell” headlines, which refer to the 35-year-old starring in Hit Man (which has a 96 percent on Rotten Tomatoes) and then, a month later, the highly anticipated sequel Twisters.

Glenn Powell, Bad Robot and IMAX have released a theatrical trailer in support of The Blue Angels Foundation, a non-profit created by former Blue Angels pilots that funds critical services for wounded veterans and their families. The trailer will run nationwide in anticipation of the IMAX original documentary “The Blue Angels,” which starts its IMAX exclusive run May 17.
Opening with an introduction from Powell, the trailer goes inside the Warrior Foundation Freedom Station 1 in San Diego, Calif., a housing and support facility for those receiving care from The Blue Angels Foundation. Founded in 2004, Freedom Station 1 provides transitional care, post-traumatic stress treatment and suicide prevention to help wounded veterans reenter the civilian community.
“We’re honored that our foundation will be featured in the upcoming IMAX documentary, ‘The Blue Angels,’ showcasing our tireless efforts to serve wounded veterans and their families,” said Scott Kartvedt, president of The Blue Angels Foundation. “This...

Glen Powell remained the king of grassroots publicity at an Austin, Texas, screening of his new Netflix movie, Richard Linklater’s “Hit Man.” The leading man hit the red carpet at the event accompanied by his family, but his mother and father decided to troll their son with signs directed at the press line that read: “Stop trying to make Glen Powell happen” and “It’s never gonna happen.”
It appears Powell’s parents have been paying attention to all the press attention their son has been getting over the last few years. Every time Powell appears in a movie, be it Netflix’s “Set It Up” or Tom Cruise’s blockbuster “Top: Gun Maverick” or Sony’s rom-com “Anyone But You” with Sydney Sweeney, the press can’t help but say he’s got bona fide star power and is the next big thing. It is possible to be “scared of nothin’ and … scared to death” at the same, at least so says Luke Combs, who holds his own bellowing about the virtues of the Sooner State over a torrent of wind and rain in the video for his new song, “Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma.” The song comes off the upcoming soundtrack to Twisters, the 28-years-late sequel to Twister (and grammarians will note that Combs’ double-negative suggests there is love in Oklahoma, even if it’s a North Carolinian turned Nashvillian singing his heart out.

The Hit Man star takes aim as her career levels up
Adria Arjona knows just how scary it can be to meet your heroes. One of her all-time favourite movies is School Of Rock, and when she first met Richard Linklater, not even the relative safety of a Zoom call could save her. “My hands were sweaty,” she admits to Empire. “I was really trying to play it cool and that lasted for about ten minutes.”
After a series of supporting turns in genre fare, crime dramas (True Detective), and recently as the forthright Bix in Andor, the 31-year-old actor is stepping into fresh territory with Linklater’s romcom HitMan. Alongside Glen Powell, she stars as Madison, a housewife with a controlling husband who falls for the contract killer (Powell) she hires to take him out. The only problem: her new boyfriend is actually working undercover for the police as a fake hitman.

Plot: A mild-mannered psychology professor (Glen Powell) interested in electronics takes a sideline bugging undercover cops in sting operations, specializing in setting up phony hits. When the usual undercover guy is suspended, he’s enlisted to pose as a hitman. He turns out to be a natural at undercover work, with the police using him to entrap people taking out contracts. Things get complicated when he falls for an abused wife (Adria Arjona) wanting to take out her husband.
Review: Richard Linklater’s Hit Man is the movie where Glen Powell finally becomes a legit star. Granted, there was little to no doubt remaining in anyone’s head after his breakout turn in Top Gun: Maverick, but in Hit Man, his charisma is so white hot and old-school in that true movie star way that he should rocket to the top of everyone’s young leading man list. It’s been over 18 months since we first shared the news of Sydney Sweeney’s plans to produce and star in a reboot of Roger Vadim’s cult 1968 sci-fi Barbarella. Since then, Sweeney’s star has risen and risen, with the Euphoria sensation releasing a slew of films including rom-com Anyone But You, erotic thriller The Voyeurs, and nunsploitation flick Immaculate, leaving ol’ Barb on the back burner. But now it looks like Sweeney has found the right stuff to finally get the project off the ground. The Wright stuff, in fact.
According to Deadline, none other than Cornetto Trilogy mastermind Edgar Wright is in talks to helm the remake. Reportedly Wright has been circling the film for some time, meeting with Sweeney shortly after the remake was announced and expressing an interest in developing the project in a directorial capacity. Sony Pictures Entertainment has seen operating income fall nearly 10% for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2024.
The company’s operating income was $808M in dollar terms compared with $894M for the comparable period a year before, which was down 9.6%. Revenues crept up to $10.31B from $10.14B for Fy.
Sony, which is headquartered in Japan, said the Hollywood strikes had impacted its Pictures segment, which comprises TV production, motion pictures and media networks (including streaming).
Whereas in 2023 Sony had suffered from a lack of new theatrical product, this year the increased number and growth at streamer Crunchyroll helped to offset a decrease in series delivered due to the labor action and lower catalog licensing of motion pictures.
On the motion pictures side, full-year revenues were $3.74B, up slightly on the previous year, but TV fell from nearly $4B to just over $3.8B. However, media networks grew from $2.69B to $2.72B.

Edgar Wright will direct a remake of Barbarella starring Sydney Sweeney, and here are details of the upcoming film.
It was reported last year thar Edgar Wright was going to direct a remake of Barbarella. The original 1968 film, adapted from the French comic book series by Jean-Claude Forest and directed by Roger Vadim, followed Jane Fonda as an astronaut from the 41st century. She sets out to find and stop the evil scientist Durand Durand, whose Positronic Ray threatens to bring evil back into the galaxy.
Jane Fonda has repeatedly claimed that she pushed its producer, Dino De Laurentiis to make a feminist take on the film many times but he always refused.
According to Deadline, the new film is now officially in development, with Wright directing from a screenplay by Jane Goldman and her daughter Honey. Sydney Sweeney will star in the picture too, we now learn.

When Sydney Sweeney brandishes a curiously phallic laser gun for her reimagining of Barbarella, she could be doing so under the watchful eye of Edgar Wright. According to Deadline, Wright is in talks to direct Barbarella, with Jane and Honey Goldman negotiating to co-write the script.
As Deadline notes, bringing Jane Goldman aboard shows how serious Sony is about assigning strong talent to Sweeney’s dream project. Jane Goldman’s writing credits include screenplays for Kick-Ass, Kingsman: The Secret Service, X-Men: First Class, Stardust, the upcoming Kingsman: The Blue Blood, and more.
During the backlash for Sony’s abysmal Marvel film Madame Web, Sweeney said she joined the film to position herself to pitch Anyone But You. The rom-com was an admirable success, with $219M+ worldwide. With Sweeney being a bankable star at the studio, Sony is ready to shoot her into space for an action-packed remake of Roger Vadim...

The Barbarella feature starring Sydney Sweeney is getting more oxygen.
Edgar Wright is in talks to direct the film for Sony Pictures, with Jane Goldman and Honey Ross in talks to write the script, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The project is still in early development and is planned as a new take on the character that originated in a French comic series from Jean-Claude Forest.
Barbarella, a mercenary who travels the universe, was portrayed by Jane Fonda in a 1968 movie version that has become a cult favorite. Sweeney’s involvement in the new film was announced in 2022.
This continues Sweeney’s relationship with Sony, with the actress having starred late last year alongside Glen Powell in the studio’s rom-com Anyone but You before appearing with Dakota Johnson in this year’s superhero flick Madame Web.

A fun game those of legal drinking age can play while watching Roger Vadim's surreal/sexy 1968 Eurotrash space romp "Barbarella": take a drink every time Barbarella (Jane Fonda) changes costumes. One will be blindingly intoxicated by the 20-minute mark. "Barbarella" takes place in the distant future wherein the President of Earth (Claude Dauphin) has tasked the title heroine, a freelance space captain, to locate and retrieve Durand-Durand (Milo O'Shea) a scientist who has invented the positronic ray, a weapon of massive destructive power. Barbarella must trek through a picaresque adventure, stopping to be savaged by killer dolls, locked into an orgasm machine (!), and to befriend a friendly angel (John Philip Law). The film was based on the bawdy 1966 French comic by Jean-Claude Forest.

The Sydney Sweeney-led “Barbarella” film is taking shape, with Edgar Wright in talks to direct the picture for Sony. Jane Goldman and Honey Ross are in talks to pen the script.
Wright, best known for making the satiric zombie film “Shaun of the Dead,” is next set to direct Glen Powell in an adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Running Man.” Wright’s other directorial credits include “Last Night in Soho,” “Hot Fuzz,” “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” and “Baby Driver.”
The project also marks another step in Sweeney’s continued relationship with Sony Pictures — she’s most recently starred in “Anyone but You” and “Madame Web” for the studio. Steven Spielberg’s production company Amblin Entertainment was one of the production companies that backed up the 1996 film Twister. The hit disaster thriller starring Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Jami Gertz, and Cary Elwes introduced storm chasers trying to contain a tornado outbreak in Oklahoma. Spielberg also served as an executive producer (EP) on the film.

Many years later, Spielberg is also an EP on the standalone sequel Twisters which is coming soon to theatres. The film stars Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos. For Ramos’ character Javi, the actor envisioned him having a Southern accent. However, Spielberg told him to keep his natural accent for the film, which surprised Ramos.

“Twisters” executive producer Steven Spielberg didn’t want Anthony Ramos to use a Southern accent for his role, according to the actor.
Ramos, who plays storm chaser Javi in “Twisters,” said in an Entertainment Weekly interview that he thought his character would have a Southern accent.
“Then I heard Steven [Spielberg] was like, ‘No, I want him to do it in his dialect,'” Ramos recalled. “It was a little surprising to me, but it was really cool, to me, because I’ve never heard someone who speaks in my vernacular — especially this New York, Northeast, Latino dialect that I have — in a movie of this size, in a place like Oklahoma. It makes me feel it’s possible for a kid from the hood to go to a school like Ou, study meteorology, be this brilliant meteorologist and storm chaser. This is something that a kid like me could do.
