After selling off its post-production color finishing service to Streamland Media last week, Technicolor was reborn on Wednesday as Technicolor Creative Studios, a new restructuring that consolidates its remaining visual effects, gaming, and animation (Mikros Animation) companies under one division.
So much for the premature demise of the Technicolor brand, although its historic connection with excellence in color marks the end of an era. But then our emotional connection to “glorious Technicolor”, associated with the three-strip camera and dye-transfer printing, essentially vanished when the company abandoned film stock and went digital in the 21st century.
“The sale of Technicolor Post was the first step in a wider, ongoing strategic plan to establish a future-facing Technicolor business,” said Christian Roberton, president of Technicolor Creative Studios. The new focus will be “on delivering work across the entertainment, advertising, and experiential marketing landscape that hinges on the intersection of creativity and technology. The...

Masayuki Suo is a director not afraid to touch on cultural taboos in his work, most notably with 1996’s breakthrough “Shall We Dance?”. There, he tackled a foreign influence in ballroom dancing, and its lack of acceptance as a respectable activity for a middle-aged salaryman. His earlier “Sumo Do, Sumo Don’t”, however, looks at a more traditional Japanese activity, but how a younger generation embrace the foreign and see the past as taboo.

"Step Up 2" fame Hollywood actor-choreographer Robert Hoffman met up with cancer-affected children as a part of his first visit to India. He said he had a great time interacting with the children and added that he always feels happy and excited when he gets the opportunity to share his knowledge about dancing.
"I had a great time being here. I think anytime I get the opportunity to share dancing, I am always going to be excited and happy to do that, especially with people who are amidst very intense part of their life. If I can give any service and bring in something creative and fun to distract them from the other things so obviously, it feels really nice. I am really grateful for the opportunity and I had a really good time today," said Hoffman.

Writer-producer Arsala Qureishi claims her 2015 film "Angry Indian Goddesses" set the precedent for female budding films in India, adding that films like "Veere Di Wedding" were released only afterwards.

We didn't get credit for that, because we were independent producers and team. The film has been a learning experience. The film got a standing ovation in Toronto. It was in Rome, and the movie reached almost 90 film festivals across globe, and it has been a stellar film," said Qureishi.

The year’s fakest TV show has found its judging panel.
Harry Shum Jr., Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, and Michael Curry have all signed on for truTV’s Fake Off, a new competition series about the captivating art of faking. Hosted by actor and dancer Robert Hoffman (Step Up 2: The Streets), the series combines Kabuki theater, acrobatics, dance, costume, and illusion as teams are challenged to recreate and reimagine iconic moments in pop culture, all in hopes of being named America’s Fake-Off champion. It’s sort of like the Oscar-nominated film The Act of Killing, except a lot less violent and bloody.

Whoa now, Taylor Swift and Harry Styles are never ever ever getting back together! At least if the rumors that the One Direction heartthrob threw her over because she “didn’t put out” enough are true. Damn son, that’s pretty cold. If Joe Jonas got that song written about him when he famously broke up with Taylor over a 27-second phone call, Harry’s gonna get a full fledged country-pop opera!
According to a report from RadarOnline, the couple known as “Haylor” crashed and burned because they just weren’t “sexually incompatible.” For example, he apparently wanted to have sex, and she wanted to…talk about antiques? Whatever floats your boat, we guess. ”Harry found Taylor a little sexually uninterested,” says a friend of the British boyband. ”While it was clear she obviously had a thing for Harry, Taylor didn’t want to put out as often as he would’ve liked.

I haven't a fucking clue what's going on in this trailer, but I kinda dig it.
Burning Palms... explores satires of Angeleno stereotypes, which are told through five interlacing stories. The five intertwining segments are based on popular stereotypes of West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Sherman Oaks, Westwood and Holmby Hills. Each of the characters in the film confront taboos and an uncertain, often darkly humorous, fate.
From what I can tell, it's about distinct groups of people slowly going bugfuck crazy. I don't know if it ends in violence, tragedy, sadness or happiness, but it's got a dark madcap-romp feel to it that I'm finding strangely appealing. The cast is absolutely insane: Shannon Doherty, Dylan McDermott, Zoe Saldana, Lake Bell, Nick Stahl, Paz Vega, Adriana Barraza, Colleen Camp, Jamie Chung, Robert Hoffman, Peter Macdissi, Emily Meade, Anson Mount, Rosamund Pike, Austin Williams and Tom Wright. That's the mother of all mixed bags right there,...

After the Jonas Brothers treated thousands of fans to a free outdoor concert at The Grove in Hollywood last Saturday, the trio planned to make a hasty retreat. But instead, they found themselves trapped in an elevator - "for 45 minutes," says Kevin Jonas. "We were stuck in an elevator with eight people and Big Rob," adds Joe Jonas, referring to the band's illustrious security guard. "It was a 21-person elevator," notes Kevin. Asked who panicked first, Joe says, "Me and Nick" - which prompted some disagreement from Nick. "I didn't panic," insists the young star, who, mindful of his diabetic condition,...

As Nick Jonas wraps up his tour with the Administration, fans are wondering if his time with his brothers is coming to an end as well. With Joe now working on some projects of his own, Kevin recently getting married and Nick releasing his solo album Who I Am on Tuesday, are the guys looking to go their separate ways?
The answer, thankfully, is no. Nick insisted that as soon as he wraps up his shows with the Administration, he and his brothers will start work on new episodes of their TV show "Jonas."

Nick Jonas is about a week into his solo tour with his side project, the Administration, and the 17-year-old admits that with each show he's learning more about himself and the songs on his February release, Who I Am. While last week, Nick forgave Demi Lovato for missing his show due to illness, this week he's just excited that the tour is going so smoothly.
"It's just interesting to see it evolve," he told MTV News backstage at the Beacon Theatre in New York on Friday night, where he was checking in to give us an exclusive update about his solo jaunt on the road. He added that his first night at the Beacon on Thursday went so smoothly, it may have been one of the highlights of the tour so far.

Aliens In The Attic (Blu-ray)
Directed by: John Schultz
Cast: Carter Jenkins, Austin Robert Butler, Ashley Tisdale, Robert Hoffman, Kevin Nealon, Doris Roberts, Andy Richter
Running Time: 1 hr 28 mins
Rating: PG
Due Out: November 3, 2009
Plot: A quartet of heavily-armed extra-terrestrials come to Earth to retrieve a previously abandoned doomsday machine. Who can stop them? Kids!
Who’s It For? This is the fluffiest and family-friendliest presentation of a possible alien takeover in eons. The tiny green aliens are scary more than ugly, and the overall violence in the film is for the most part slapstick. My dog would probably scamper down to the basement after a couple of loud crashes, but she has always been a wuss.
Movie:
Aliens In The Attic is a movie of shenanigans from start to finish. Before the title becomes relevant, the kids are partaking in rebellious activity, like giving the online school grades the ol’ two letter grade bump,...

The M in MTV now stands for Miscellaneous. In addition to announcing new reality programs not unlike their biggest hits, the "new and diversified" cable station also greenlit a scripted series: Hard Times, a single-camera comedy from David Katzenberg, about a teenage social pariah. They're also developing a series based on the Michael J. Fox movie Teen Wolf, and an animated show from SNL's Seth Meyers about a superhero who battles the paparazzi. Throw in concrete plans for another Ashton Kutcher-produced reality show (American Idiots) and Rob Hoffman's oddball variety show best described by this clip, as well as a proposed Jamie Foxx sketch show, and there's something for everyone (under the age of 29). Not bad. Wouldn't it be great if MTV found its Weeds or Mad Men, a successful, original show that redefines our perception of a network? MTV will always aim young, and shows like The Hills are its lifeblood.

So, this Ashley Tisdale person is famous for something, is she? Near as I might have guessed from this tedious excuse for a children’s action fantasy film, it could be for strutting around in a bikini while pouting unattractively and throwing hormonal tantrums. Actually, Tisdale was in the High School Musical movies... and she appears in this film so little that I can only imagine that her appearance here is nothing beyond an attempt to cash in on the tweener appeal of her name. And maybe as a way to appease the slightly pervy 30something dads forced to drag their kindergarten spawn to this movie: they get to ogle, from the protective darkness of the multiplex, a nearly naked young woman pretending to be a nervously virginal high-school senior but who is, in fact, considerably older (and presumably less nervously innocent in real life). Tisdale’s Bethany Pearson appears...

The people who made Aliens in the Attic probably will not be surprised to hear that their film is mediocre, given that they don't seem to have been shooting for anything better than that anyway. I picture the walls of the production office lined with motivational posters that say "Good Enough!" and "Why Waste Effort?" And when they're all done, and the C+ grades come out, everyone shouts "Woo-hoo!" and trades high-fives.

Ok, here’s the really surprising thing: Aliens In The Attic isn’t entirely awful.
Since it didn’t press screen in New York (always an omen suggesting someone at the studio has perceived quality control issues), I rushed to the very first theatrical unspooling at 10:30 a.m. Friday on 42nd Street and paid my money to be among the first in my neighborhood to see today’s Sf comedy. It was a little too early for hot buttered popcorn but the air conditioning was nice. The seat was comfy. There was a good amount of legroom. And then the movie.
Briefly, four aliens not from this Earth have landed—on the roof and then into the attic of a summer rental mansion—as vanguard to a massive force from the planet Zirconia (or was it Zirconium, I’m confused) that will be invading by the picture’s end.
