Soccer Mommy welcomed guest Phoebe Bridgers onstage Tuesday during her Los Angeles gig, with the duo delivering a rendition of Elliott Smith’s “The Biggest Lie.”

Tuesday’s Will Trent brought #AllTheFeels as the titular Gbi agent came face to face with his long-lost uncle, Antonio Miranda (played by American Fiction’s John Ortiz).
Lucy Morales’ younger brother, a professor by trade, was as warm and charismatic as promised. At first it seemed like he and Will had nothing in common — that was, until it was revealed that Antonio is dyslexic, just like his nephew.

Lorne Michaels is an expert at celebrating the legacy of “Saturday Night Live.” The show’s creator has produced variety specials for the NBC program’s 15th anniversary, 25th anniversary and 40th anniversary, so the upcoming 50th season should have a highly entertaining spectacle. Nothing less than a three-hour event would be expected, but how else should “SNL” celebrate the golden anniversary season, which would begin in the autumn of 2024 and continue through May, 2025?
Here is our exciting, fun suggestion for a way to go above and beyond for the live special. Over the course of a 20-22 episode season, NBC would certainly have almost every episode featuring the current cast along with hot guest hosts and musical guests. However, for the other five episodes spread out over several months, devote an entire 90 minutes to each previous decade. Invite back the biggest cast members from a decade along with well-known guest hosts and music stars.

The Artists Rights Alliance, backed by around 200 music artists including Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and Camila Cabello, has released an open letter calling on digital music developers to “cease the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to infringe upon and devalue the rights of human artists.”
The campaign raised the alarm on the the use of musical works by AI developers that without permission train and produce AI “copycats,” or use AI “sound” to dilute royalty obligations. Their intervention came as the threat from AI to creators, and its value to tech giants, is an increasing focus for the legal and pop music fields.
“Working musicians are already struggling to make ends meet in the streaming world, and now they have the added burden of trying to compete with a deluge of AI-generated noise. The unethical use of generative AI to replace human artists will devalue the entire music...

“Drank someone else’s juice and left only the rind,” Katie Crutchfield boasts on her excellent new Waxahatchee album, Tigers Blood. She’s got a right to sound cocky. The long-time indie-rock underdog hero won herself a lot of new fans with Saint Cloud, her 2020 breakthrough hit, going for a laid-back style of heartland rock & roll twang. But Tigers Blood is even more rugged and confident, a master storyteller fully aware she’s on a hot streak. She sings about adult romance, struggling for sobriety, the day-to-day work of holding...

Yankovic was one of Triumph’s guests at his recent “Let’s Make a Poop!” live shows at Sf Sketchfest (now available to watch in full online), and to honor the pop parody king, Triumph asked if he could perform some of his favorite Weird Al spoofs — only he delivered some hilariously dumb, half-baked ones Yankovic definitely never wrote (though there was something about them that...

R.E.M.’s 11th studio album, Up, informally flagged the start of the third and final phase of the band’s career, following both their early I.R.S. years and their mainstream peak in the 1990s. Drummer Bill Berry departed the band after suffering a brain aneurysm while on tour in 1995, but the remaining members opted not to replace him, instead employing electronic drum programming throughout the majority of the album. And the timing, it seemed, was serendipitous, as the electronica movement was reaching its apotheosis.
Up subsequently marked the end of R.E.M.’s decade-long relationship with rock producer Scott Litt, replaced by Ray of Light knob-twirler Pat McCarthy and mixer Nigel Godrich, who produced Ok Computer. And yet, the album doesn’t immerse itself as vigorously in the genre as those two watershed releases. Sonically, tracks like the Eno-esque opener “Airportman” and the gently percolating “Suspicion...

Marvel's Cinematic Universe rarely makes a period piece, but when it does, it goes all out. One of the best examples might be "Captain Marvel," the McU's first film starring a female superhero. It serves as the origin story for Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), and it just so happens to take place in 1995. That means that, when amnesiac Carol — or "Vers," as she's called by the Kree Starforce — returns to Earth after years on the planet Hala, her first stop is a Blockbuster. She doesn't stop by so much as she crash lands through the roof, but still: the metaphor is a pretty tangible one.
"Captain Marvel" is chock full of such allusions to the '90s. Directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck sprinkled them throughout the film in ways big and small, from landlines and dial-up to a handful of perfectly placed needle drops. Carol's journey is bolstered by...

Soccer Mommy has dropped an EP full of covers called Karaoke Night, featuring her unique take on songs by Taylor Swift, Pavement, Slowdive, and more. Stream it via Apple Music or Spotify below.

Director Tarsem Singh has spilled beans on ‘Dear Jassi’; which is his first film to be shot in India. According to him, the film takes certain threads of inspiration from his own late mother, where he wondered why a Canadian woman of Indian heritage would plot to have her daughter abducted then murdered. ‘Dear Jassi’, ahead of its global release, was first premiered at the TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival), and it is touted to be a romance story, but also features grisly murder and violence.
Speaking to Deadline, Tarsem Singh said: “It is a love story, but with a grisly murder at its centre.”

Just as it did in its first season, “The Bear” Season 2 created a powerful soundtrack, thanks to executive producers Josh Senior and Christopher Storer, who also oversee the series’ music. From Otis Redding and Pearl Jam, to R.E.M. and Taylor Swift, the duo were able to tell a story of itself through the needle drops — something that is just as important to them as the writing itself.
When the writers room began, the group made a playlist and started sharing ideas with others on the team and even some of the actors, with Senior noting that Ayo Edebiri “is super helpful” in the entire process.
“It’s the most fun thing we get to do on the show, in my opinion. It’s a blast,” says Senior. “Sometimes we take all the songs out and see if we miss them. Other times, we use the songs to syncopate the scenes and cut them really fast.

Beyond the chaos of the kitchen in the FX dramedy series The Bear exist the other aspects of each character’s life that are one thread pull away from completely unraveling. In a new music video, R.E.M. uses clips from those intimate moments as a backdrop to a remix of “Strange Currencies,” which appeared in the show’s newly-released second season.

Ariana Grande is one to be admired. She’s radiant and self-deprecating all at the same time.
The 29-year-old singer’s beauty line, R.E.M. Beauty, posted a TikTok video on Saturday in which the “7 Rings” singer pokes fun at her old self applying a thick amount of makeup for a moody look. The 14-second video opens with Grande watching her old self applying makeup and about to embark on an unknown subject. But Grande had other plans.
“I’ve been doing my homework and I wanna talk to you about something,” her old self says before Grande interjects, “Do you think your eyes are a little too smokey for every day?”
Her old self agrees.
“Yeah, I’m going through a phase,” she says, “Is that Ok with you?
Grande then offers a sarcastic “sure” before awkwardly looking around to break the tension.

Remember the first time you heard Jeff Buckley’s haunting vocals on Grace or felt R.E.M.’s emotional wallop through the arrangements of Automatic for the People? City and Colour’s The Love Still Held Me Near hits just like that. But its creation didn’t come easy at all for Dallas Green. The Ontario, Canada, singer-songwriter had to process two deaths during the making of the album. But it’s that grieving that gives The Love Still Held Me Near its heart — even as it crushes yours.

Sesame Street might not be as shmancy as, say, the Meatpacking District circa "Sex and the City," but it has its fair share of hip visitors.
The latest "Sesame Street" music video features the wondrous Janelle Monáe, and it's just what you need on a Friday afternoon. Bert's bumming, Cookie Monster is burning his snacks, Big Bird can't dunk a basketball, and the Two-Headed Monster can't seem to find the beat. It's easy to be discouraged, but just as they're all about to toss in the towel, Monáe appears in a stylin' tuxedo to teach them about "The Power of Yet." It's catchy, groovy, and completely adorable - and the perfect song to go with the 45th anniversary of the long-running show!

David Letterman had a sketch in 1983 called "They Took My Show Away" — an after-school special where Dave helps coach a little kid to be a more responsible TV watcher. ("Jimmy, are you gonna do homework all night? Don't you think you ought to watch a little TV?") But when NBC cancels little Jimmy's favorite show, Voyagers, Dave takes him for a walk in the park to break the tragic news. Heartbroken, the kid sobs, "I don't think I'll ever watch TV again!"
Dave takes off his shades and frowns.

Cookie Monster, the ever-gluttonous star of "Sesame Street," recently covered Icona Pop's breakout single "I Love It" in a parody called 'Me Want It.' While Cookie Monster's version is as adorable as all get out -- and the Swedish electro-pop duo are pretty cute, too -- it still may seem like an unlikely pairing, albeit with perhaps a more appropriate source song than their Lmfao parody "I'm Elmo And I Know It."
But these covers actually fit pretty well within the "Sesame Street" tradition of incorporating songs into the show regardless of whether their music is aimed at the knee-high set or not. And even better than the puppet parodies are the ones that ones where the singers and musicians come to the actual set.

Some bands have a sound, some have a look, others a strange allure you can't quite explain and, in rare cases, all three.
R.E.M. were one of those bands. The long-running alt rock godheads who packed it in after 31 years on Wednesday (September 21) will be remembered for a lot of things by a lot of the people who bought millions of their albums. But I'll remember them best for the consistent, exquisite confusion they sowed.
It's hard to put your finger on how this strange brew came to define the alternative-rock era of the mid-1980s and early 1990s. Peter Buck's iconic, chiming, Byrds-inspired guitars — which came to be known simply as his signature "jangle" — bassist Mike Mills' flawless high harmonies and Nudie-suit style, original drummer Bill Berry's economic,...

After enjoying a much-needed time off, The Strokes now come back with a new album called "Angles". Two years in the making, the new effort will make its way out across the United States on March 22. "Sonically, I feel it's the album which should have been made between 'Room on Fire' [2003] and 'First Impressions of Earth' [2006]," bassist Nikolai Fraiture once said.
The CD is led by a retro-sounding single "Under Cover of Darkness". Capturing the original feel of the band with a few tweaks to keep it up-to-date, the song got positive reviews from music critics and became a good kick-start for this rock band to introduce the rest of the album.
A Radiohead-esque track titled "You're So Right" was released to follow up the first single. Of the sinister-sounding tune, frontman Julian Casablancas told NME, "I had some early R.E.M. vibes for a minute or two. It's a darker one.

Bradley Manning has been hit with 22 new charges by the Army, including “aiding the enemy” which could carry the death penalty. The military justice system is different from what civilians are used to, and we’re still a long way from trying him on anything.
We’ve been documenting the horrid things that Andy Cohen said about Ps 22 at the Oscars, and Cohen’s mea culpa. But now the choir director of Ps 22 has spoken, and he’s taken the high road. Well, as high a road as is available. “Anyone who would diss 10-year-old public school kids probably has some issues."
One of the unfilmed Two and a Half Men scripts had a casting call for Jonathan, a gay client of Lyndsey’s who befriends Charlie and they get blind drunk together and wake up in bed together with no memory of what happened. It’s either brilliant or horrible.
