Fox is foreclosing on Housebroken.
The broadcast network has opted to cancel the animated comedy after a two-season run.
From creators Gabrielle Allan, Jennifer Crittenden and Clea DuVall and featuring a star-studded voice cast that included Lisa Kudrow, Will Forte and Maria Bamford, the second season of the comedy wrapped in August 2023.
The cancellation, however, is not a surprise considering that animated shows take longer to produce, and if Fox wanted to bring back Housebroken, production on a third season should have begun months ago.
Sources say the network was pleased with the show’s creative, but the lackluster ratings — season two averaged a mere 1 million viewers among the all-important advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic — gave Fox executives little choice but to cancel it.
Fox owns the show and produces it in-house via its deal with Bento Box Entertainment, the animation company behind Bob’s Burgers.

More than 400 prominent female writers and showrunners sent a letter today to the heads of the major studios expressing their “grave concerns” about the companies’ “lack of specific production protocols” to protect their workers in anti-abortion states.
The letters, which state that “it is unacceptable to ask any person to choose between their human rights and their employment,” also demanded that the companies “pledge to discontinue all political donations to anti-abortion candidates and political action committees immediately.”
Deadline has obtained a copy of the letter to Netflix, which organizers say was sent to top executives at Amazon Studios, AMC Networks, Apple, Disney, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, Netflix, Paramount Global, , and Warner Bros. Discovery.
The letters, whose signers include Ava DuVernay, Shonda Rhimes, Amy Schumer, Marta Kauffman, Callie Khouri, WGA West vice president Michele Mulroney and WGA West secretary-treasurer Betsy Thomas, said that “this situation raises basic matters of equality, health, and safety in the workplace.

If you are looking for a new adult animated show, look no further than “HouseBroken” on Fox, created by Jennifer Crittenden, Clea DuVall, and Gabrielle Allan with executive producer Aaron Kaplan. This animated comedy follows a group of house pets and strays who have formed a therapy group.
Starring Lisa Kudrow, Nat Faxon, Will Forte, and Sharon Horgan, this cartoon series explores the character’s dysfunctional relationships. Inside and outside of the group, these animals deal with human behaviors, decisions, and emotions. This isn’t just a show about cats and dogs.
“HouseBroken” has been popular for Fox fans and is the second most-streamed animated series on Fox and Hulu. However, audiences overall have rated the show a 5.9/10 on IMDb and a 50 on Rotten Tomatoes. This might seem like a death sentence for the show, but Fox renewed “HouseBroken” for two more seasons. So, you’ll get to see plenty more of these wild characters.

Fox is going to the dogs — and cats, and pigs, and turtles — this Memorial Day with the premiere of “HouseBroken,” an animated comedy created by “Veep” writers Jen Crittenden and Gabrielle Allan and actress Clea DuVall.

But Crittenden and Allan, who are “HouseBroken’s” co-showrunners, and DuVall, who voices Elsa, a power-hungry, know-it-all Corgi and fake service dog, have big plans for unraveling the inner workings of these animated animals’ minds throughout the show’s first season. There aren’t too many surefire ideas out there these days, though “what if ‘The Secret Life of Pets’ didn’t have to be G-rated?” is about as straight down the middle a pitch as it gets. Still, “HouseBroken” finds a few ways to make itself stand out, especially with the help of several solid voiceover performances from actors who know how to make any character a standout.
“HouseBroken,” Fox’s new animated comedy from Gabrielle Allan and Jennifer Crittenden (“Veep”), follows a group of misfit pets led in weekly therapy sessions by Honey (Lisa Kudrow), a perfectionist poodle who wants to solve everyone else’s problems as well as her own. Animated by Bento Box Entertainment (“Bob’s Burgers”), the show doesn’t need to stray too far from the usual animal tropes to find decent humor in them. The last two Producers Guild of America Awards told us which movies — “Green Book” (2019) and “The Shape of Water” (2018) — would win the Oscar for Best Picture weeks before the Academy Awards. In fact, 21 of the previous PGA Awards winners have then gone on to claim Best Picture victories.
For the 31st annual ceremony slated for Saturday, January 18 at the Hollywood Palladium, we already know the top choice will be at the very least a major front-runner for this year’s Oscar. The PGA’s 10 nominated films are “Ford v Ferrari,” “The Irishman,” “Jojo Rabbit,” “Joker,” “Knives Out,” “Little Women,” “Marriage Story,” “1917,” “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and “Parasite.” All but “Knives Out” contend at the Oscars for Best Picture.

Much has been made about “Veep” never winning a Golden Globe, but did you know it’s also never won at the Producers Guild Awards? Sure enough, this year’s nomination marks the sixth and final PGA bid for HBO’s political comedy series, which ended its run last May. As this is the era of Peak TV, more and more worthy shows are going to be left out in the cold, we get that. But for “Veep,” a three-time Emmy winner for Best Comedy Series, to never earn recognition from the PGA Awards, this seems like a trend Selina Meyer should veto.

The first time “Veep” was nominated by the producers guild was for its 2013 season. “Modern Family” was still flying high at awards shows across the board, with that year being its fourth and final victory at PGA.

Fox is set to order a handful of comedy and drama pilots in January with a view to move completely off-cycle.
This comes as the network steps up its push into comedy after not having any new live-action comedies on the fall schedule, with particularly high hopes for Carla, starring The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik and based on British comedy Miranda.
“We’re going to order a couple to several drama and comedy pilots in January but we’re also doing off-cycle. We’re not going to do all of our ordering in January; our hope is to be completely off-cycle,” Fox president of entertainment Michael Thorn told Deadline. “We’re looking at ordering things when they’re ready and backing off the traditional cycle and looking to set series up for success.”

The Producers Guild of America has revealed its nominees in the motion picture and television categories for its 31st Annual Producers Guild Awards; nominees include recent Golden Globe winners “1917,” “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood,” “Missing Link,” “Succession,” “Fleabag” and “Chernobyl.”
The PGA, which has about 8,200 members, has matched the Oscar for best picture in 21 of its 30 years, including “The Green Book” last year and “The Shape of Water” in 2018.
The PGA uses a preferential balloting system that’s similar to that employed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The PGA and AMPAS both expanded their voting for the top film to 10 nominees in 2009. About three-quarters of the PGA’s Zanuck nominees wind up as Oscar best picture nominees.
On the TV side, among all of the drama and comedy nominees, only “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (last year’s comedy winner) is a repeat from last year.

The Producers Guild of America hands out its awards on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018. That is the night before the Screen Actors Guild does the same. Unlike, the latter, which will air on TNT and TBS, the PGA ceremony is not televised. However, it is an equally important stop on the road to the Oscars.
The PGA Awards has an enviable track record at presaging the eventual Best Picture winner at the Academy Awards. The guild and the academy have agreed on 19 of the most recent 28 Best Picture champs. Last year, all nine Oscar nominees for Best Picture numbered among the 10 PGA contenders; only “Deadpool” was snubbed by the academy. The PGA prize went to “La La Land” while the Oscar was (eventually) won by “Moonlight.”

From Angelina Jolie to Nicolas Cage, Beverly Hills High School has educated a who’s who of A-list celebrities for generations.
The high school, which turns 90 this year, is even a bit famous in its own right. The memorable pool sequence from It’s a Wonderful Life was filmed in the gym, and it was also the inspiration for the high school in Beverly Hills, 90210.
In celebration of its 90th anniversary, The Hollywood Reporter spoke with a handful of notable past graduates, like Will & Grace co-creator Max Mutchnick and actress Joely Fiser, who dished on what their famous classmates were like before they became stars.

Gabrielle Allan and Jennifer Crittenden are titans of TV comedy, having separately written and produced countless episodes of The Simpsons, Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Arrested Development, Scrubs and Jesse. Benny Gammerman: How did you guys become collaborators?
Jennifer Crittenden: We knew of each other before we actually met, because female comedy writers is kind of a small group. I had heard about this Gaby Allan, and I was pretty prepared to not like her, because I was jealous. Like, “Who’s this other girl?” But when we actually met, we got along great.
Gabby Allan: We were both at similar places in our careers and personal lives, so it seemed like a really good match at the time. And it still is.

Ever since her days as the funniest actress in the Scary Movie franchise, I’ve always had a soft spot for Anna Faris. She is, in many ways, one of the most underrated women in comedy. She’s had some misfires (Smiley Face), but she’s also had some roles that have put her in the much-deserved spotlight, most notably in The House Bunny and Observe & Report. While she’s mainly praised for her physical comedy, her role in Mark Mylod‘s What’s Your Number? gives us a new look at what she’s capable of.
The plot is, as expected, simple. Ally (Faris) reads a magazine article that asks, ‘What’s Your Number?,’ pertaining to the number of men a woman has slept with. If you’ve slept with 20 or more men, then you’re less likely to find a husband. Ally realizes her number is close to...

Chicago – Why can’t anyone figure out how to use Anna Faris effectively? She’s got some of the best comic timing of any actress working today but she can’t find a good script in which to display it. Take her latest venture, the misogynistic, creepy, and just Bad “What’s Your Number?,” a pale excuse for a chick flick that should look even more ghostly in light of the similarly-themed and far-superior “Bridesmaids” earlier this year.
Opening with a nearly-identical scene to the start of “Bridesmaids,” “What’s Your Number?” is another tale of a woman trying to figure out her dating life in light of the impending marriage of someone close to her. In the Wiig film, it was her best friend. Here, the horribly-named Ally Darling (Faris) is shaken up by the nuptial planning for her sister Daisy (Ari Graynor) – yes, her name is Daisy Darling.

Don’t deny it, we can all relate to those raunchy magazine columns about weight, exercise and even romance. We make promises to ourselves to eat differently, exercise more, and look out for that “special someone,” but how many of us really stick to our plan? Ally Darling, played by Anna Farris in “What’s Your Number?” goes above and beyond to stick to her guns. After being denied a date to her sister’s wedding by her current “boyfriend” and being let go by her perverted boss, her day couldn’t seem to get any worse. With her box of office paraphernalia on her lap, she mindlessly flips through a magazine coming across a mind-boggling fact. “In America, 96% of woman who have been with 20 or more lovers can’t find a husband.” Shocked by this realization, she immediately starts to tally all those relationships and one-night stands, or “moments of weakness.
