Isabela Merced has joined the cast of HBO‘s The Last of Us. She is the last of three major additions for the upcoming second season of the post-apocalyptic drama based on the video game of the same name developed by Naughty Dog for PlayStation. The other two are recently cast Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and Young Mazino as Jesse.
Merced will play Dina, Ellie’s new romantic interest and Jesse’s ex. Dina is a free-wheeling spirit whose devotion to Ellie will be tested by the brutality of the world they inhabit.
“Dina is warm, brilliant, wild, funny, moral, dangerous and instantly lovable,” said Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, The Last of Us‘ co-creators, writers, executive producers and directors. “You can search forever for an actor who effortlessly embodies all of those things, or you can find Isabela Merced right away. We couldn’t be prouder to have her join our family.

Scott Pilgrim is back, but not in the way anyone expected. The new Netflix animated series “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” is both a continuation of the “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” story and a complete recontextualization of what transpired, twisting and morphing the source material into something completely new. And who better to do it than the author responsible for creating “Scott Pilgrim” in the first place?
The anime “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” is created by Bryan Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski, and while it begins similarly to “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” a shocking twist at the end of Episode 1 soon takes this story in a different direction.
Edgar Wright, who co-wrote and directed the 2010 film adaptation “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” is involved in this new series as an executive producer and he also helped bring a big piece of the puzzle together: the cast.

Plot: Billie is plagued by blackouts and strange visions that lead her to discover she’s stuck in a series of time loops, possibly related to her mysterious new girlfriend.
Review: Dementia is one of the scariest things I can think of. Losing the ability to access your own memories and being unable to recognize your loved ones is downright awful. So I was really interested when they brought up the concept and seemed like that would be the main idea at play Jagged Mind. I feel silly being so wrong. What starts as an interesting idea with our lead Billy seeing her death over and over, unable to properly comprehend time, swiftly devolves into a near Lifetime movie. Or maybe that was just the lighting.
Knowing that this started as a short film, First Date, (as part of Hulu’s Bite Size Halloween) I can see elements that carried over here.

Kelley Kali’s Jagged Mind is a unique kind of erotic thriller. Not only does the film focus on a lesbian couple, Kali and writer Allyson Morgan broach a subject rarely seen in queer cinema: domestic abuse. The film approaches its weighty topic with urgency and graveness, but the distinct genre elements make everything more digestible.
Much like its basis, Morgan’s short film First Date, Jagged Mind shows the lengths some people will go to to be with the person they love. Or more accurately, the person they are obsessed with. Unlike other thrillers, though, this one features a time loop. The audience is thrown in head first as the main character, Billie (played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers), almost immediately experiences another blackout. Billie is clueless apart from a troubling sense of déjà vu, however viewers will quickly figure out what (or who) is behind this strange malady.

In a somewhat surprising announcement, this week, it was announced that Kim Cattrall will make an appearance in the Season 2 finale of “And Just Like That” — but she won’t interact with the rest of the show’s cast. Cattrall, who plays publicist Samantha Jones in “Sex and the City,” is expected to make a brief cameo appearance in the Max sequel series. No other details have been released at this time, but Cattrall had previously been adamant that she would not participate in the show, preferring to pursue other roles.

"It feels like I'm not seeing all of you..." Hulu has revealed the first official trailer for a psychological thriller film titled Jagged Mind, which will be skipping theaters and heading straight to streaming on Hulu this summer. The project was developed by 20th Digital Studio, and unfortunately it still has that TV movie feel to it. Jagged Mind is about a woman plagued by blackouts and strange visions that lead her to discover she's stuck in a series of time loops, possibly related to her mysterious new girlfriend. What's being kept a secret? Maisie Richardson-Sellers (DC's Legends of Tomorrow) stars as Billie, with Shannon Woodward as her girlfriend, Alex. The film will have its world premiere at the American Black Film Festival in June just before it's out for viewing. This looks a bit cheap, cliche, and obvious, but maybe some will enjoy it anyway. // Continue Reading ›...

Way back in 2016, when a hot new HBO show called "Westworld" aired the penultimate episode of its first season, it left the fate of one Ashley Stubbs, played by Luke Hemsworth, dangling. As head of security for the Westworld theme park, Stubbs had ventured into the heart of the robot apocalypse in search of his missing coworker, Elsie (Shannon Woodward), only to be met by hostile members of the Ghost Nation tribe, each wielding a tomahawk or bow and arrow. They didn't respond to the command, "Freeze all motor functions," the way the park's robotic hosts normally would, and when Stubbs drew his gun, one of them tackled him.
For some, Stubbs was presumed dead after that cliffhanger, since the season never returned to the character after that. In a 2022 interview with Collider to promote "Westworld" season 4, Hemsworth himself admitted, "There was every intention that my character wasn't gonna be...

Joel and Ellie will soon make their live-action debut as part of HBO’s TV adaptation of Naughty Dog Studios’ critically acclaimed video game “The Last of Us,” but the road to getting this adaptation off the ground was a challenging one — and it started with a scuttled attempt to turn the post-apocalyptic game into a movie.
The series takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel (Pedro Pascal), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle a 14-year-old girl named Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
The show is written and executive produced by Craig Mazin (“Chernobyl”) and Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann, both of whom walked TheWrap through the process of turning the game into a prestige...

Like so many other video game adaptations before it, "The Last of Us" had a long road to traverse before the cameras finally started rolling. This might be a little hard to believe, given the immense popularity of the franchise and the fact that it basically plays out like a movie already. Sure enough, Hollywood was basically interested right off the bat, and it's not hard to understand why.
When first released in 2013, "The Last of Us" quickly became the fastest-selling game in years. It won year-end accolades from various publications and ceremonies, including multiple Game of the Year awards. Seven years later the sequel followed suit and now holds the record for most Game of the Year awards, ever. Between them, they've sold more than 37 million copies. One of the most common aspects of the human condition is also one of the most difficult to consistently and compellingly depict on TV: boredom. Typically, movies or series that open on a character who’s frustrated with the redundancies of their day-to-day life soon give way to an extraordinary and eye-opening adventure, where the subject (and audience) learns to appreciate what they have and/or step out of their comfort zone a little more often (off the top of my head: “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”). But if there is no adventure — if, instead, there’s just the struggling, stagnant lead going through his typical, unchanging life — those stories run the risk of trapping their audience in a headspace both limited and unwelcoming.

When the premiere episode of Apple TV+’s Mr. Corman ends, the first four names in the credits all belong to Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He directed it, wrote it, created it, and stars in it. He’s also a producer and helps write the music performed by his title character, a fifth grade teacher in Van Nuys, California, who can’t entirely let go of his dreams of rock stardom. Given all of the hats Gordon-Levitt wore on the project, it seems quite probable he was also baking delicious snickerdoodles every...

Spending a day in the life of Victor Morales (Arturo Castro) means seeing an L.A. story that TV doesn’t tell too often. A native Angeleno, Victor spends his days delivering packages all over the city for Ups, his nights playing video games with his friends, and his weekends with his daughter who’s now firmly in the dreaded teenage stage of hating everything and everyone, most especially her parents. Castro, most well-known for more overtly comedic roles on shows like “Broad City” and his own series “Alternatino,” imbues Victor with open sincerity and casual compassion that makes him compelling to follow no matter how banal the scene.
Unfortunately, “Mr. Morales” — directed by Aurora Guerrero and written by Roja Gashtili and Julia Lerman — by is just a one-off episode on “Mr. Corman,” a show that’s otherwise about Victor’s embittered roommate Josh, played by creator, writer and director Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Apple TV+ has launched a new trailer for the upcoming comedy series featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, ‘Mr Corman’.
The series follows the days and nights of Josh Corman (played by Gordon-Levitt), an artist at heart but not by trade. A career in music hasn’t panned out, and he teaches fifth grade at a public school in the San Fernando Valley. His ex-fiancé Megan has moved out, and his high school buddy Victor has moved in. He knows he has a lot to be thankful for but finds himself struggling nevertheless through anxiety, loneliness, and a sinking suspicion that he sucks as a person. Darkly funny, oddly beautiful, and deeply heartfelt, this relatable dramedy speaks for our contemporary generation of 30-somethings: rich with good intentions, poor with student loans, and yearning to become real grown-ups sometime before they die.
Created by, directed by and executive produced by Joseph Gordon Levitt along with Bruce Eric Kaplan,...

The original quarantine couples are back. “Love is Blind: After the Altar,” and three-episode special followup to “Love is Blind,” will premiere July 28 on Netflix.
“Love is Blind: After the Alter” brings back Season 1 fan favorites as they prepare for a two-year anniversary party for the Hamiltons and the Barnetts, the two couples to successfully make it down the aisle during the “Love is Blind” experiment. Ahead of the party, audiences will get to catch up with the cast as they settle back into their daily lives in Atlanta, Ga. When the show ended, some singles left with a sour taste in their mouth about the experiment’s outcomes, so there is no doubt there will be drama and surprise appearances.

I can’t tell you how many times a friend has come up to me with a story that positions their significant other as the proverbial albatross around their neck with a look that screams, “Amirite?” only to have me shrug, smile, and reply, “I don’t know. I actually like my partner.” I only partially say this in jest because I do hope they’ll hear those words and rethink their situation—their refusal to acknowledge their own part in their problems, the possibility that their relationship isn’t working, or whatever else. That this desire to undercut and blame the people we love as being the constant source of our unhappiness has become the norm is a perfect example of social conditioning gone wrong. We are allowed to be happy.

Exclusive: Hope springs eternal, at least Raising Hope does.
The Emmy-nominated Greg Garcia-created sitcom that ran on Fox from 2010-14 will be back for one night this weekend in a virtual reunion to benefit the A Is For charity.
Hosted by Ashley Nicole Black, the March 13 get-together (link here) will see Garcia joined by cast members Martha Plimpton, Garret Dillahunt, Lucas Neff, Shannon Woodward and Baylie & Rylie Cregut.
There won’t be a script reading, as many reunions have done over the past year. What there will be, I’m told, is some very up-close and personal recollections of the four seasons that Raising Hope ran. Some unfiltered responses to digital submitted audience questions are also on offer too.
The reunion is free, but a $20 donation is necessary if you want to ask questions of the participants. “I’m excited to get into some real behind-the-scenes stuff,” Plimpton told Deadline of the gathering.
