To some, releasing a trailer for Venom: The Last Dance during Pride month might just be a happy coincidence. But for queer fans of the Tom Hardy-led film series, the timing of this release was everything. While the previous entries in this film series, Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage, have been generally panned (including by some of our staff), there is a subset of fans who celebrate the films for the queer subtext lying beneath that flashy blockbuster facade. And a lot of this has to do with Tom Hardy’s portrayal of both Venom and Eddie Brock.

A couple days ago, Sony Pictures unveiled a trailer for their Marvel Comics adaptation Venom: The Last Dance, giving us our first look at the film that’s meant to wrap up the Venom series and is aiming for an October 25th theatrical release. Now Forbes has published an interview with star Tom Hardy in which he talks about ending the series with a bang – and teased that this movie might have an R rating. (The previous two Venom movies were rated PG-13.)
Hardy told Forbes, “This one – I’m so, so excited about because we’ve gone much bigger. If the mission statement is commercial, blockbuster, action and superhero movie, how can we imbue a sense of something that’s fun and different? What’s going to entice people that they have a memory, they have a moment, they have an event? This comes from us who are really,...

Tom Hardy returns as Eddie Brock for one final time in this autumn’s Venom: The Last Dance. Here’s a new trailer.
Venom is one of the more off-beat and wayward franchises in the superhero genre, with Tom Hardy evidently relishing his dual role of scruffy journalist Eddie Brock and Venom, the alien symbiote that becomes his unlikely partner.
Six years on from the 2018 original and the 2021 sequel, Let There Be Carnage, Hardy reprises the role for the third (and seemingly final) time in this October’s Venom The Last Dance. And if you’ve been wondering whether or not it’ll continue the knowingly over-the-top style of the last two movies, then fear not: the trailer below sees Venom fighting a monster on the roof of a moving jumbo jet and, a bit later, possessing a horse.
Actor and filmmaker Kelly Marcel (who wrote the last two installments) is on directing duties here,...

A third film in the Marvel Comics-inspired Venom franchise made its way through production last year, shutting down for several months along the way due to the Screen Actors Guild strike. Now the film, titled Venom: The Last Dance, is aiming for an October 25th theatrical release – and today, Sony Pictures is starting to build the hype by unveiling the first trailer! You can check it out in the embed above.
The first Venom was scripted by Jeff Pinker, Scott Rosenberg, and Kelly Marcel. Ruben Fleischer directed that film, which made $856 million. But then Fleischer turned his focus to making Zombieland: Double Tap and Uncharted – so Andy Serkis took over as director on Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Which was written by Kelly Marcel, working from a story she crafted with star Tom Hardy. That sequel earned $506 million at the pandemic era global box office. Serkis said he would be...

Warner Bros. has announced new movies in the Lord of the Rings universe. The anime The War of the Rohirrim will be released later this year, and the main course is being prepared for 2026: the movie The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
Andy Serkis will return to the role of Gollum, Peter Jackson will produce, and Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who worked on both The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, are among the screenwriters.
Does that sound like the biggest announcement of the year? No, it sounds like the biggest disappointment for fans of Tolkien and the original trilogy.
Who Asked For a Standalone Gollum Story on Big Screen?

2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes brought about a resounding change in the franchise’s universe and appeared to mark an end to the saga. However, the 2022 Wes Ball directorial, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, has expanded the lore further ahead by as much as three centuries after the end of its previous installment, and with a new working order that has apes as the dominant species on the planet and humans reduced to a feral state.

At a time when the flick is surging ahead at the global box office with the likes of Freya Allan spearheading its cast, it also has not forgotten its roots. Eagle-eyed fans have spotted numerous connections between the current movie’s central characters and Caesar, the ape from the first 2011 movie who kick-started the lore in the first place.

With just five months to go until the release of Venom: The Last Dance, we surprisingly know very little about the movie, but that’s all set to change as there have been rumblings that the first trailer will debut next week.
The BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) has classified a 2-minute, 27-second trailer for Venom: The Last Dance. Scooper Daniel Richtman narrowed down the release window, saying it will be released on Monday. The trailer is expected to screen in front of Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which hits theaters on June 7th.
Related Venom 3 gets a new title and release date
As I mentioned above, plot details regarding Venom: The Last Dance have been kept under wraps, so it will be nice to finally know a little of what to expect from what’s being billed as the third and final installment of the franchise. Tom Hardy stars as Eddie Brock/Venom,...

With Andy Serkis stepping behind the camera, expectations were high for Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The movie ended up being a big improvement over its predecessor, but a PG-13 rating neutered Cletus Kasady and held the movie back to a large degree.
A post-credits scene teasing Venom's meeting with Spider-Man increased fan interest, only for Spider-Man: No Way Home's own stinger to send Eddie Brock back where he came from without ever meeting Peter Parker.
Venom: The Last Dance is up next and that movie will reportedly be Tom Hardy's final appearance as Eddie. Kelly Marcel, who wrote Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage, now writes and directs...whether that's a good or bad thing remains to be seen.

Not that long ago, we confirmed that Peter Jackson was indeed coming back to The Lord of the Rings franchise, but as a producer, and that a new movie had been confirmed for a 2026 release. The movie was soon revealed to be The Hunt for Gollum, and we also received confirmation that Andy Serkis would be coming back to the role that made him famous, but that he would also be directing the movie as well. This is all part of a larger plan to revitalize The Lord of the Rings cinematic franchise and expand upon the original movies directed by Jackson.
So, a return to Middle-earth is imminent and we cannot wait for the movie to come out, but since we still have a long way to go, we don’t have too much information at this point. But, while nothing has been confirmed, one actor from Jackson’s...

We know that Aragorn does not fear death, but does Viggo Mortensen fear returning to the role? Not one bit. With the announcement that another Lord of the Rings movie – in the form of The Hunt for Gollum – will be making that long trek to theaters, it’s hard not to wonder which of the original cast (other than Andy Serkis) will be returning for the film. With so little truly known about the film, there’s no reason not to imagine which of our fan favorite characters could have a spot. And if Viggo Mortensen has a say, he and Aragorn will wield Andúril yet again.
Speaking with British GQ, Viggo Mortensen admitted that he doesn’t know what’s planned for The Hunt for Gollum but is willing to return as Aragorn if it serves a purpose. “I don’t know exactly what the story is, I haven’t heard.

Viggo Mortensen revealed in an interview with GQ UK magazine that he used Aragorn’s iconic sword Andúril from “Lord of the Rings” in his latest movie, “The Dead Don’t Hurt.” Mortensen wrote and directed the 19th century Western, in which he stars as a Danish immigrant separated from his love (Vicky Krieps) during the Civil War.
For one fantasy sequence in the film, Mortensen asked his “Lord of the Rings” director Peter Jackson if he had his permission to use Aragorn’s sword again on screen. Mortensen played the character in Jackson’s original “Rings” trilogy and kept the sword after production wrapped.

Peter Jackson’s King Kong was the ninth entry in the King Kong franchise. The film remains Jackson’s only monster movie and he didn’t return to direct a sequel film. But he was interested to see a sequel of the film from one director who has a lifelong fascination with monsters. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movie series is expanding with another installment after the grand success of the third movie Spider-Man: No Way Home, it was the ultimate treat for Marvel fans. Now, the upcoming Spider-Man movie, as speculation dictates, is going to be more grounded with a bit of multiversal touch.
Tom Holland stars as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Columbia Pictures’ Spider-man: No Way Home.
If not multiversal, Spider-Man might go to its classic root, to its classic villains— Norman and Harry Osborn. New speculation recently suggested that fans could see Dune star Timothée Chalamet making his Spider-Man debut playing a villainous Harry Osborn and in this case, Kevin Feige might hire one MCU star again, this time for the role of Norman Osborn.

"Star Wars" trilogies are a flat circle, and George Lucas was right when he said "it's like poetry, it rhymes." Much like the prequel trilogy, the sequel trilogy created incredible excitement and anticipation, with "The Force Awakens" trailer breaking viewership records and fans everywhere obsessing over every detail, every character, every quote. And much like the prequel trilogy, things went downhill quick, with the movies disappointing a lot of people, and fandom going nuts and bullying the cast and crew incessantly until they drove some of them off public appearances and the internet, and until they all but swear off the franchise they were once huge fans of.
Still, for a little while, the excitement was palpable and infectious, not just among fans but even press. For example: people only asked Andy Serkis, who played the "Star Wars" villain Snoke, about "The Force Awakens" when all he wanted was to talk about apes.

With the release of “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” on May 10, this year’s Best Visual Effects Oscar race just got a lot more interesting. That’s because we’re almost guaranteed to get three, possibly even four, movies in the race that are follow-ups to previous Visual Effects nominees. “Apes” is likely to be the fourth movie in its franchise nominated for the innovative performance capture used to help create the film’s photo-realistic apes. Three previous films, starring Andy Serkis, were nominated for Oscars in the category in 2011, 2014, and 2017, but none of them won.
The work done by director Wes Ball and his team has made “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” a serious contender in multiple below-the-line categories, not just visual effects. Its production design and sound are equally impressive. But the academy branch that’s most likely to be impressed will be the...

Andy Serkis is one of Hollywood’s finest go-to actors for playing motion-capture roles in films. He played Caesar in the Planet of the Apes trilogy, Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit films, and the titular character in 2005’s King Kong. However, many fans wouldn’t be aware of his role as a Performance Capture Consultant in Gareth Edwards’ 2014 kaiju film, Godzilla. Serkis explained that it was not a full-on acting role like his other monster roles.

Andy Serkis is no stranger to dual roles. The groundbreaking pioneer in motion-capture work may be most well known among general audiences for his casting in "The Lord of the Rings" as Gollum/Sméagol, everybody's favorite two-faced little gremlin, but that only scratches the surface of his contributions to film over the decades. Serkis has since expanded his talents from acting to directing ("Mowgli: The Legend of the Jungle" and "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" were but a warm-up for his recent announcement as director and star of "The Hunt for Gollum"), delivered a genuinely award-worthy performance as the ape Caesar in the previous "The Planet of the Apes" trilogy, and even found time to depict two very different "Star Wars" characters as Supreme Leader Snoke in "The Last Jedi" and hardened prisoner Kino Loy in "Andor."

Out of nowhere, a new Lord of the Rings movie was recently announced — and with the most surprising premise, too! The upcoming movie will focus on the person we know as Gollum — but more specifically, on the person he used to be before turning into that nauseating creature. Gollum was once called Smeagol, and it’s his story the movie seeks to finally explore after so many years.
What Will the Gollum Movie Be All About?
Recently, Peter Jackson, Andy Serkis, and Philippa Boyens sat down with Deadline to discuss the unexpected Lord of the Rings prequel. The original trilogy’s team is eager to get back in action, and they gladly revealed what few details have been set in stone so far. The most obvious question is, why make a Gollum movie at all?

Paul Andrew Williams is synonymous with gritty, low budget British filmmaking. Bursting onto the scene in 2006 with London to Brighton, he quickly built up an impressive filmography including showcasing the glorious double act of Andy Serkis and Reece Shearsmith in horror comedy The Cottage, home invasion horror Cherry Tree Lane and a change of direction with sweet musical comedy Song For Marion, which starred Terence Stamp and Vanessa Redgrave. He returned to his roots in 2021 with dark thriller Bull, a revenge story featuring a powerhouse performance by Neil Maskell. Even after Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 arrives, there will be more of Middle Earth to explore, particularly through the lens of Gollum’s perspective. Deadline unpacked where the franchise is heading with longtime collaborators Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to make more films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy work and the world founded on Peter Jackson’s original New Line trilogy of films, with one corresponding to each books.

Last week, Warner Bros. announced plans for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, a new movie set near the beginning of the original trilogy starring and directed by Andy Serkis.
Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh, who wrote the previous movies, are set to pen the screenplay, along with Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou (The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim). Filmmaker Peter Jackson, meanwhile, is producing the project.
In a lengthy interview with Deadline, the latter elaborated on why Gollum's origin story was the right focus for the first of what's expected to be a whole slate of spin-offs.

Heading into theatres, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes had huge shoes to fill, as the modern trilogy, which concluded seven years back, set the bar pretty high. Although this entry in the IP doesn’t continue the trend of stepping up with each new release, which is reasonable considering how great the last one was, it’s still a worthy continuation of the franchise.
While not physically present in the film, Wes Ball did an impeccable job of capturing Caesar’s spirit and his influence, and the director didn’t drop the ball with the franchise’s new protagonist, Noa. How do you craft an entirely new story about a character that we've seen depicted throughout one of the most famous movie trilogies of all time -- especially when one of those movies already laid out his origin story in its opening 10 minutes? Since I'm not a studio executive desperate to keep one of their biggest cash cows going with the recently-announced "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" film, I'm in the fortunate position of not having to be the one to provide answers to such burning questions. But for those with much more personal stakes involved in this unexpected new journey, namely producer Peter Jackson and returning star-turned-director Andy Serkis, this conundrum only made them all the more excited to sink their teeth into the IP's biggest live-action project since "The Hobbit" trilogy.

Severin Films Goes Goth On June 4th With Danza MacAbra Volume 3: The Spanish Gothic Collection: "Coming June 4th! Danza MacAbra Volume 3: The Spanish Gothic Collection is the latest in our acclaimed series of Gothic Horror Blu-ray box sets and the first to focus on Spain’s tradition of Gothic Horror, which – particularly during the Franco dictatorship – was characterized by daring concepts, lush visuals, extreme sexuality, and a startling aestheic all its own. These four classic shockers from the 1970s represent the genre at its most audacious: In Necrophagous, the debut feature by writer/director Miguel Madrid, a fractured family in a crumbling castle conceals a grisly graveyard secret. Exclusive: Since Warner Bros acquired rights to make more Middle-earth films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s works and the canon established by New Line’s original trilogy, Peter Jackson and his Lord of the Rings cohorts Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens hovered over the proceedings for a long time, as they mulled how to return, and much to involve themselves into another deep dive into Tolkien mythology.

The film “follows a young teenager who, when his sister is viciously attacked and showing signs of a transformation, leaves his small village in search of a legendary werewolf hunter who can reverse the gruesome curse. When he finds the “legend,” Devlin, slumped against a bar and in no mood for ghost stories, Delvin takes the kid’s money and agrees to hunt down this phantom monster, only to find themselves in a deadly whirlwind of carnage.”
Sean Brosnan (My Father Die) co-wrote the screenplay with Matt D’Elia.
