- Amanda Root is an English stage and screen actress and a former voice actress for children's programs.Root is known for her starring role in the 1995 BBC film adaptation of Jane Austen's Persuasion, her role in the British TV comedy All About Me, as Miranda, alongside Richard Lumsden in 2004, and for voicing Sophie in The BFG. - Was originally sought by Emma Thompson to play the role of Marianne in Sense and Sensibility (1995). Root participated and was at the original script read-through. However, by the time the film was finally being made, she was already attached to appear in another Jane Austen film, Persuasion (1995). The role eventually went to Kate Winslet.
- Acted as narrator and host for a documentary on Jane Austen's life which is played continually at the Jane Austen Centre in Bath, England.
- Nominated for the 2009 Tony Award for Best Performance for a Featured Actress in a Play for "The Norman Conquests".
