He and his son David Mirvish were awarded the Special Award at the 1998
Laurence Olivier Theatre Awards as recognition of their outstanding
restoration and operation of London's Old Vic Theatre.
Besides his work in theater, he operated a store on Bloor Street and
Bathurst Street in Toronto which was named "Honest Ed's" and has been
in business for over 55 years.
He was circumcised by Rabbi Moses Reuben Yoelson, whose son went on to
be actor Al Jolson.
He was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in 1989.
