“Girl From The North Country is an important part of this season,” said Robert E. Wankel, Chairman and CEO of The Shubert Organization, in a statement. “We have always been supportive of this show, and we are excited about bringing it to another theater in the spring.”

TORONTO -- The $27 million The Lord of the Rings musical will receive its world premiere in Toronto next March, Mirvish Prods. is set to announce today. The lavish British-produced musical had originally been scheduled to open in London in December, but switched to Toronto because a venue was not immediately available in London's West End with a stage large enough to re-create Middle Earth and accommodate epic battle scenes. Live theater impresario David Mirvish has planned a press conference to announce that the musical based on the J.R.R. Tolkien trilogy will open March 23, 2006, for an indefinite run at the Princess of Wales Theatre. Final terms of the deal are being negotiated by show producer Kevin Wallace and Mirvish Prods., which owns the Princess of Wales and Royal Alexander theaters in Toronto and owned the Old Vic Theater in London from 1982-1997.
