Canadian procedural Wild Cards is coming back for a second season on The CW.
The renewal news came this morning as originating broadcaster CBC renewed the show and unveiled it at its Upfronts.
It marks a bit of good news for The CW, which canceled Walker earlier this week, while Canadian drama The Spencer Sisters, which it also aired, was canceled at CTV.
The show, stars Grey’s Anatomy’s Giacomo Gianniotti, Riverdale’s Vanessa Morgan and Jason Priestley, has been one of The CW’s stronger performers over the last year.
Earlier this month, The CW’s President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz told Deadline that he was keen to bring back the show for more episodes.

Canadian procedural Wild Cards has been one of The CW’s stronger performers over the last twelve months.
It was somewhat surprising, then, that the show which stars Grey’s Anatomy’s Giacomo Gianniotti, Riverdale’s Vanessa Morgan and Jason Priestley, hasn’t been quickly snapped up for a second season.
The CW’s President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz told Deadline in February that the network was in conversations with Blink49 Studios about more episodes coming to the network.
Those talks are still ongoing, but the suggestion is very much that it will continue on The CW.
“You’ll probably be hearing more announcements from us very soon,” he told Deadline this morning. “That show did great. It grew 10% versus what The Flash did in the same spot the year before. So, here we are beating shows that everyone’s very romantic about. We’d very much like to renew that one.

Wild Cards, a Canadian police procedural, has become a surprise hit for The CW.
The series, which stars Grey’s Anatomy’s Giacomo Gianniotti, Riverdale’s Vanessa Morgan and Jason Priestley, launched in January.
It has been averaging over 500,000 in the live overnights, per Nielsen, which The CW President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz says will likely go to around 1M over the first seven days.
This is what constitutes a hit for the network. “That’s a nice success for us. If we can do seven nights a week with a million viewers, that would be goal number one, then two million,” he told Deadline.

Schwartz added that he has already begun discussing a second season of the show, which comes from Blink49 Studios.
“We have not renewed it yet but that is a conversation that’s happening right now.

It's over and done, but aren't you glad it happened?
On Schmigadoon! Season 2 Episode 6, Josh and Melissa get their Finale Ultimo, which turns out to be a "Happy Beginning."
The singular sensation Ariana DeBose is back, opening up the episode with a fabulous tribute to 1981's R&b musical Dreamgirls.
DeBose hasn't been featured as prominently in Schmigadoon! Season 2 as she was in Schmigadoon! Season 1, likely due to her career taking off after her Oscar win -- but this is a beautiful way to showcase her doing what she does best.
DeBose delivers dramatic, dynamic vocals with elegance and glamor. The number sets the tone for the rest of the episode perfectly.
Once again, Cecily Strong proves what a marvelous actor she is. We know there will be a happy end, but her commitment to the proceedings is admirable. Patrick Page's Kratt somehow remains both dapper and dastardly. His evil knows no bounds!

Brace yourself for a broken record.
How can this show keep getting better and better when it's so good already? On Schmigadoon! Season 2 Episode 5, the hits start right off the bat, and they just keep coming.
Everyone on screen and behind the scenes is a master of their craft. It's that simple, folks!
Tituss Burgess gives us a sinister Sweeney-esque recap of where we're at with our various plotlines, and even though he's fantastic here, it can't compare to his big number that comes a little later in the episode.
Melissa has truly come into her own, and Cecily Strong is there right along with her.
Dropping the Funny Girl costume (and schtick), Strong goes full-on torch singer with "My Turn Now," an homage to the magnificent "Maybe This Time" from Cabaret.
Vocally, she's never sounded better, which a strong belt and confident mixed voice that soars. No wonder the audience loves her!

What if Sally Bowles was in Hair? What if Sweeney Todd got with Miss Hannigan?
These are the scenarios on Schmigadoon! Season 2 Episode 4.
Written by Raina Morris and directed by Alice Matthias, it's the darkest of anything we've seen in the Schmigaverse.
It gets heavy and melancholy but also gives us some truly tender and real moments. Life (and times) is hard, after all -- it's not all just song and dance. Even musicals aren't all happy anymore.
The scene between Melissa and Jenny was quite moving. It was just a traumatized girl with a friend trying to help her. There were no laughs, just a reminder of how broken and unhappy these characters are.
We haven't given costume designer Angus Strathie as much acknowledgment as he deserves.
Across the board, his costumes have been outstanding, but this episode had some fantastic pieces, namely Melissa's tangerine dream and Miss Codwell's yellow floral frock.

Production on TNT’s “Snowpiercer” has been stopped due to safety concerns involving extremely high temperatures on set (via Deadline). The series was filming in British Columbia, where temperatures frequently reached the mid-90s. Multiple cast and crew members experienced cases of heat exhaustion, and 14 people were reportedly taken to the local hospital for treatment. Soon after, producers made the decision to suspend filming until temperatures became more manageable.
“Out of an abundance of caution, production of ‘Snowpiercer’ wrapped early yesterday and was suspended for today due to extreme heat on location,” said a spokesperson for Tomorrow Studios, which produces the show. “The health and well-being of show cast and crew remains top priority.”
Many were quick to point out the irony of a show about people affected by extreme climate change being shut down over extreme climate change. “Snowpiercer” takes place in a future Ice Age, and the heavy...

Disney Channel’s original 1997 version of Under Wraps had many of the elements family comedies need: three cute and precocious leads, a fun-loving mummy and plenty of funny moments. There was just one thing missing — diversity.
All of the movie’s leading characters were white. But the revamped Under Wraps, which premieres tonight at 8/7c on the Disney Channel, shakes all of that up with an inclusive cast that incorporates more people of color. Two roles that were initially played by men are now filled by women, and one lead has same-sex parents.

Spanning a number of months, the episodes pick up early in 2020, when little was known about Covid-19, watching as the virus comes to meet San Jose with deadly force. “This episode of The Good Doctor is a made-up story about a real battle still being fought,” the opening title cards read. “Honor the heroes … many of whom have given their lives. Do your part. Wear a mask.”
Premiering tonight, “Frontline, Part 1” examines the exhaustion, stress and frustration that comes with working on the front lines of a pandemic. While Dr. Lim (Christina Chang) struggles to produce the Covid tests, PPE and other medical supplies needed to confront the health crisis, Dr.

The Good Doctor Season 4 has yet to begin, but we're already worried about our favorite characters.
ABC has dropped the first plot details for The Good Doctor Season 4, and it sounds like an emotional season for all of the characters.
The season premiere is a two-parter according to the network, and it finds the characters facing the global pandemic called Covid-19.
"Dr. Shaun Murphy treats a patient with an illness that is not only unpredictable in nature, but also unlike anything he or the team at San Jose St. Bonaventure has ever seen before, reads the logline for the November 2 premiere.
"As safety protocols and quarantines increase due to the global pandemic, Lea and Shaun’s new relationship will become tested," the synopsis continues.
If you watch The Good Doctor online, you know Will Yun Lee's Alex Park was gearing up to exit the hospital on The Good Doctor Season 3.

Things are finally back on track this first season of Snowpiercer, after last week’s extremely transition-y episode that didn’t do a ton to move the narrative forward. Episode 7, entitled “The Universe is Indifferent,” begins to amp up to the promised revolution aboard the titular train in a meaningful way, as an executive upheaval begins to develop, loved ones are lost, and Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) decides the only way to win the impending war is to align himself with the most twisted passenger aboard the Snowpiercer as well.
“The Universe is Indifferent” opens with a performance from Miss Audrey (Lena Hall) in the Nightcar, while Melanie (Jennifer Connelly) is on the hunt for Layton after their physical altercation last week. It’s apparent from her haughty pursuit of the detective that Melanie’s officially done taking crap, as we watch her interrogate Terence (Shaun Toub), the leader of the janitorial crew,...

We are officially halfway through the first season of Snowpiercer, and now with the murder mystery all wrapped up, it’s time to get down to business. Or so I thought heading into this week’s programming. This latest episode, entitled “Trouble Comes Sideways,” puts the brewing class warfare on hold so that Melanie and those in charge of keeping the Snowpiercer rolling along can deal with a near-catastrophe that threatens the very lives of every single passenger aboard.
The opening montage shows us that trouble is brewing for the titular train in a multitude for ways: not only do we see some electrical gear short-circuiting but there seems to be an uprising about to happen amongst the Third Class passengers who are planning to strike as a means to get justice for Nikki and the sham trial that allowed Lj Folger (Annalise Basso) to walk free despite being found guilty.

The 2018 season of Fox’s “The X-Files” — the second of the revival and 11th overall — is staging a spooky Emmy campaign for five of its cast members. Leads David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are of course back on the Emmy ballot as FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Duchovny previously earned two nominations (1997-98) for the original run of “The X-Files,” while Anderson received four bids (1996-99) and won the 1998 Emmy for Best Drama Actress. This time around they’re joined by three of this season’s standout guest stars: Karin Konoval (“Plus One”), Haley Joel Osment (“Kitten”) and Fiona Vroom (“Nothing Lasts Forever”).

After playing FBI Agent Dana Scully on “The X-Files” for 25 years, Gillian Anderson finally said goodbye during Wednesday’s Season 11 finale. Scully’s final scene played out on a dock with longtime partner Fox Mulder (David Duchovny). After seeing their son William (Miles Robbins) gunned down by the Cigarette-Smoking Man (William B. Davis), an emotional Scully confessed that Mulder wasn’t actually William’s father. When Mulder asked, “What am I now if I’m not a father?” Scully revealed that he still was a father … because she was pregnant. Are you happy with Anderson’s exit on “The X-Files”? Vote now in our poll below.

“You are a father,” Scully whispered as she held Mulder’s hand against her stomach.

The eleventh season of The X-Files is coming to an end. I don't know about you, but I've really enjoyed this latest season of The X-Files. There were some great and fun episodes. Fox has released the trailer for the season finale of the series and it looks like it will be a solid ending to the season as Mulder and Scully try to help their son. It looks like Mulder sees a lot of action in this season finale. The question is, will The X-Files continue after this or will this be the final episode of the series!?
With Gillian Anderson not coming back to the franchise, the future of the show is in limbo. But, creator Chris Carter has said that the series could continue without Gillian:
"I think that certainly The X-Files has more life in it, there are more stories to tell, with Gillian or without.

Andy Serkis has never been nominated for an acting Oscar, which many people will tell you is downright criminal. The actor has pioneered the art of motion-capture performances with acclaimed work in “The Lord of the Rings,” “King Kong,” and the “Planet of the Apes” franchise, and yet the Academy has remained incredibly resistant to nominating his performances. The issue of motion-capture Oscar snubs has been debated for years, but Serkis says progress is being made.
“Oh yeah, definitely,” Serkis told ScreenCrush when asked if the Academy will ever start nominating motion-capture acting. “I mean, the Academy is openly, they’ve written emails to the acting branch saying we have to now acknowledge performance in the broadest sense. So performance-capture, voice talent acting. And they’re asking the question: What is the epitome or the essence of a great performance? It doesn’t just have to mean seeing an actor’s face on screen.

Karin Konoval has already made her mark on “The X-Files” thanks to her iconic performances as under-the-bed villain Mrs. Peacock in “Home” and fortune teller Madame Zelma in “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose,” but her latest role(s) in this week’s “Plus One” could make her mark on the Emmys. As twins Judy Poundstone and Chucky Poundstone and their two dopplegangers, Konoval effortlessly portrays four complicated, quirky characters who have a telepathic link. And, oh yeah, did we mention Chucky just happens to be a man?
As we know, the Emmys love when actors take on multiple roles — just ask Tatiana Maslany who prevailed for portraying all those clones in “Orphan Black” (2016). Might Konoval earn her first career nomination at the 2018 Emmys for playing this gender-bending group of doppelgangers?

X-Files Recap is a weekly column by Keith Uhlich covering Chris Carter's 10-episode continuation of the X-Files television series. To know someone intimately is to risk familiarity, and we all know what that breeds. Not that FBI Special Agents and ex-flames Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) are contemptuous of each other, exactly. Their disdain is more often directed inward, at those subconscious voices that dissuade and derail, reminding them that the clock (on both their work and on life itself) is always ticking. The duo's flirty, jargon-heavy banter is, beyond its innumerable surface pleasures (could any other pair so bewitchingly debate Gastaut-Geschwind syndrome?), a defense mechanism against the devils within and without. Find that one person who you can most easily converse with, whose sentences you don’t just finish but practically prophesy, and nothing can hold you back. That’s how it should ideally work,...

The X-Files gets cut a lot of slack when it comes to episodes like Plus One even when its supernatural plot has a few holes. Everything about this week’s instalment was as familiar as a well-worn pair of jeans, which could result in critical complacency, and when the new dynamics of Mulder and Scully’s relationship are superimposed on top of what amounts to an episode-of-the-week in the classic style, all is somehow forgiven. In other words, this was an A+ character study with a C+ story.

This is the episode in which Karin Konoval returns.
Konoval is one of the most well-known actresses from The X-Files universe having played the mother under the bed on "Home."
On The X-Files Season 11 Episode 3, she plays a dual role as telepathic twins who have made a life for themselves playing hangman. Their game rules are a bit more unconventional than most other boys and girls.
This was a tough one to figure out. Was it serious, goofy, somewhere in the middle?

We're less than two weeks from the return of The X-Files Event Series - Second Chapter, the official term given to The X-Files Season 11 by Fox.
Critics received the first five episodes the second chapter, and herein I'll share thoughts on what we've seen so far.
Going by the numbers only, it seems likely the first half of the season will be better than the second, but even then, it should hold up well in comparison to the First Chapter of the Event Series. Here's why.
When speaking with Chris Carter at New York Comic Con, he noted that within the ten episodes we would be receiving three mythology episodes instead of the two. Bookends and one hybrid monster-of-the-week/mythology in the middle.
The problem with that from what I've seen so far is My Struggle III, the premiere of The X-Files Season 11, is by far the most ill-conceived of the five offered for review.

I don't know about you, but I'm ridiculously excited about the return of The X-Files for an eleventh season! Now today we've got about 30 new photos from the upcoming series to share with you teasing the crazy events that will transpire over the course of the first two episodes. It looks like Agent's Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) are going to go through some rough times. We also have a brief plot summary for each of those episodes.
Episode one is called "My Struggle III" and it was written and directed by Chris Carter:
Picking up after the last event series’ cliffhanger, Mulder and Scully learn that they aren’t the only ones desperately searching for their long-lost son, William. The very fate of the world may depend on it.
Episode two is called "This" and it will include the return of Dean Haglund as Richard ‘Ringo’ Langly.

Before 2011, we’d have been happy to get one genuinely great Planet Of The Apes movie. What we could never have predicted is that it would become one of the most satisfying and consistently brilliant film trilogies in recent history.
The premise was bold right from its inception: Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes depicted the fall of humanity and the ascent of a new species not from our perspective, but from that of Caesar,...

We've got another promo spot for you to watch for The X-Files Season 11! As you'll see, the tension is building as Agents Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) are looking for their son. They also are forced to reluctantly team up with Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi), who they seem to have lost trust in.
This next season will consist of ten episodes. Two of them will continue the saga story, and the rest will be more standalone "monster of the week" episodes. I'm so excited to see what creator Chris Carter and his team have in store. When teasing what we can expect, a previous report revealed:
With more monster-of-the-week episodes this season, fans can expect season 11 to be united in theme but varied in tone. After episode one delves into the Cigarette Smoking Man’s (William B. Davis) backstory and apparent family ties to Mulder, the second hour...

Stars: Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Amiah Miller, Steve Zahn, Karin Konoval | Written by Matt Reeves, Mark Bomback | Directed by Matt Reeves
Matt Reeves is telling us something: This is what happens when a blockbuster budget is used well. The third part of the Apes reboot, following Rupert Wyatt’s Rise and Reeves’ Dawn, may be the pinnacle of the series so far. In a universe of cinematic universes, War for the Planet of the Apes bucks the trend and feels like a different beast to its predecessors: a true next chapter, with a different mood and a new rhythm, and the balls to bring beloved characters to the end of their arc.
Following the catastrophic events of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, in which civil war broke out between the proud Caesar (Andy Serkis) and the hateful Koba (Tony Kebbell), relations between humans and apes are at an all-time low.
