10. The Cat's Meow (2001)
It’s 1924, and Charlie Chapman is the biggest movie star in history. When a famous producer is murdered on a powerful media magnate’s yacht, there is no media coverage or investigation.
No one knows what truly happened, but the bizarre rumors about Chaplin and his close circle’s involvement in that crime are in the air.
You can watch The Cat's Meow on Prime Video.
9. The Bank Job (2008)
A foolproof bank robbery sounds like any criminal team’s dream, right? There’s only one extra step they must do to satisfy their mastermind, an MI5 agent who orchestrates the robbery: apart from money, they need to steal dirt on a member of the royal family stored in the same bank. Sounds easy, but things go horribly wrong.
You can watch The Bank Job on Netflix and Prime Video.

Noel Fielding Talks His New Apple TV+ Comedy Dick Turpin — and If Baking Show Fans Will Get the Joke
Millions of The Great British Baking Show’s fans might not know it, but Noel Fielding is very funny outside the tent, too.
Before taking over as co-host of Netflix’s supremely cozy UK baking competition in 2017, Fielding was best known for starring in The Mighty Boosh, a wildly surreal sitcom that became a cult hit during its 2004-07 run on BBC Three. Now two decades later, Fielding is returning to TV comedy with a new Apple TV+ series, The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin (premiering this Friday on the streamer), with Fielding playing an easygoing misfit who accidentally...

For better or worse, Elvis Presley and Jesse James are two of America’s rebel icons. Elvis lost out on the opportunity to play the Western outlaw for reasons beyond his control. Another famous actor of the era replaced him. Regardless, the Western genre became a significant part of the singer’s career.
The director of ‘Rebel Without a Cause’ wanted Elvis Presley to play Jesse James
Nicholas Ray was a film director known for making movies about outcasts. His filmography includes King of Kings, In a Lonely Place, Johnny Guitar, and, most famously, Rebel Without a Cause. According to the book Elvis Films Faq: All That’s Left to Know About the King of Rock’ n’ Roll in Hollywood, Ray wanted the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll to star in his movie The True Story of Jesse James. In his fascinating book about Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino said Elvis Presley almost appeared in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, one of the most beloved Westerns of the 1960s. Another source says the director’s claim is dubious. Regardless, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid inspired one of the best movie themes of its era.
Warren Beatty and Elvis Presley could have been ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’
In his 2022 book Cinema Speculation, Tarantino discussed the making of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. “After [Steve] McQueen dropped out of the role of the Sundance Kid, before [Robert] Redford, it was offered to Warren Beatty,” he said. “Naturally, if Beatty did it he wanted to play Butch Cassidy (a nonstarter because that role had always been Newman’s). But if they had gone for it, Beatty wanted to do it with Elvis Presley as Sundance.”

Plot: The untold story of the most legendary lawman in the Old West, Bass Reeves. The eight-episode original series follows the journey of Reeves and his rise from enslavement to law enforcement as the first Black U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi. Despite arresting over 3,000 outlaws during the course of his career, the weight of the badge was heavy, and he wrestled with its moral and spiritual cost to his beloved family.
Review: Bass Reeves is not nearly as recognizable of a name as it should be. In the annals of American history, we know Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, Billy the Kid, Jesse James, and countless other iconic figures, but Bass Reeves may be the most impressive of them all. A key figure in recent series, including DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen, Bass Reeves’ tale is tailor-made for a cinematic adaptation. Originally announced as...

At times when we see some films on the big screen we are mesmerized by their beauty. But others add in performances to complement this beauty. This is one of those films that is stuck in the middle of it. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford begins with some shots of the clouds moving at a brisk pace taking in with most of the shallow inequities of this dreamy town where Jesse James (Brad Pitt) resides. The whole starting sequence is more like a dream of the character who was an impending nightmare about to happen.
The first phase of the movie deals with the last crime Jesse commits with his gang and the consequences of what happens in this incident. His brother who begins to distance himself from him makes a big dent in Jesse James’ mind. This leaves him distraught and almost helpless. He...

Exclusive: Leslie Small has been set to direct the buddy comedy Happy V-Day and actioner The Raid, under a two-picture deal with Winter State Entertainment. Prep on both titles is underway, with production dates to be set upon the resolution of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
The deal speaks to the move back into narrative features that Winter State has undertaken, after pivoting to docs during the pandemic.
Written by Winter State principals Hamid and Camille Torabpour, Happy V-Day tells the story of two best friends who look to get vasectomies, at the behest of their wives, together confronting the horrors of “the snip.”

An old video has surfaced where actress Sandra Bullock and her late boyfriend Bryan Randall can be seen dancing the night away back in 2017 and exchanging their vows in Bahamas. Sandra Bullock and Bryan Randall never married but were nonetheless very close as Sandra Bullock had called her late boyfriend the love of her life, before he passed away from Als (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) on August 8, 2023 at the age of 57.
In the video obtained by the Entertainment Portal, the couple can be seen dancing the night away in the moonlight in Bahamas to the tune of Ray Lamontagne’s ‘Shelter’, with Bullock donning a blue and white printed kaftan and flip flops, while Randall wore a white button-up shirt, dark-colored trousers that were rolled up at the ankle flip flops and wearing a stylish black baseball cap.
This was followed by a romantic ceremony which, while not legally binding as it involved no legal contract,...

Photographer Bryan Randall, Sandra Bullock’s longtime partner, died over the weekend, his family said on Monday. He was 57.
“It is with great sadness that we share that on Aug. 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with Als,” his family told TheWrap in a statement. “Bryan chose early to keep his journey with Als private and those of us who cared for him did our best to honor his request.”
“We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours,” the family’s statement continued.
Randall and Bullock largely kept their relationship private and he did not attend Hollywood events with the actress and producer.

Brad Pitt has come a long way over the course of his illustrious Hollywood career. While Pitt’s mid-West upbringing is no secret, fans might be surprised to know that Pitt didn’t originally move to California to act.
Once upon a time, a young Pitt told his parents that he wanted to move to Los Angeles to attend art school. In reality, however, Pitt wanted to pursue his dreams of getting on the big screen in the City of Angels.

And now for something completely different: After attracting attention and appreciation with his debut feature, “Monster,” a riveting contemporary drama about a Black high school honor student charged as an accessory to a fatal shooting in his Harlem neighborhood, director Anthony Mandler continues to impress with his sophomore effort, “Surrounded,” an exceptionally well-crafted Western that spins a gripping, racially charged tale of suspicion, deception and survival in post-Civil War New Mexico. Echoes of Sergio Leone, Budd Boetticher and John Ford abound throughout the sturdy screenplay by Andrew Pagana and Justin Thomas. But the movie is less a genre pastiche than a multifaceted character study in which perfectly cast lead players Letitia Wright (“Black Panther”) and Jamie Bell (“Snowpiercer”) do most of the narrative heavy lifting.

Roger Deakins wasn’t onboard with how “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” train sequence was turning out.
The Oscar-winning cinematographer reflected on the iconic scene from the 2007 film starring Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck, namely calling out how “frustrated” he was over the “dinky” train used for historical purposes on set. The sequence in question involves Jesse James (Pitt) staging an elaborate robbery of a train during the first act of the Andrew Dominik film.
“I’ve got to say, Andrew and I got kind of frustrated because we couldn’t really find a train line that we liked and we couldn’t find a period train to the scale that Andrew wanted,” Deakins said during a panel discussion at the 92nd Street Y. “We ended up shooting in Edmonton [in Alberta, Canada] on a museum line and luckily it goes through this little wooded area, but the train was really dinky.

This post contains spoilers for the first season of "Westworld" and the end of "The Fabelmans."
HBO's "Westworld" is perhaps the greatest one-season show that got stretched out unnecessarily to four seasons only to be canceled just shy of the finish line. When it first premiered in 2016, "Westworld" had a lot going for it. Where else were you going to enter a saloon and hear player-piano versions of alt-rock hits like Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" and Radiohead's "No Surprises?"
Another thing "Westworld" had going for it — back when it was still set in the AI-powered theme park that gave the show its name — was its sweeping vistas that were already right at home in the Westerns of John Ford. These references to the legendary director's work were done by design, and they weren't the only thing "Westworld" pulled from Ford. Consider the very name of Westworld's founder,...

Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
Nearly a decade after the last Dtv entry, The Amityville Horror finally returned to theaters. This was thanks, in large part, to the success of Platinum Dunes’ 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre which kicked off a wave of horror remakes..
TCM 2003 set the precedent for the look and tone of many of the aughts remakes. This is clearly visible from the opening murder montage of director Andrew Douglas’ film: staccato editing of grainy archival footage set to an industrial score. This isn’t your mother’s true crime story; this is amped up, gritty, and slightly desaturated-looking. It’s MTV music video chic by way of Se7en.

Abraham Lincoln, for whatever his historical faults, is perhaps the most cinematic President the Unites States has ever had. Whether you put him in a theatrical D.C. backroom drama like Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln," or in a silly, pulpy movie like Timur Bekmambetov's "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" (from the same year!), you get a great film. Maybe it's because of his iconic appearance, maybe it's due to the almost mythical challenges of leading a country in the midst of a Civil War, or maybe it stems from the temptation to cast him as a hero battling the evils of U.S. slavery.
Spielberg's "Lincoln" has scenes set in the wreckage of battlegrounds. "Vampire Hunter" has Honest Abe fighting vampires on runaway trains. Most every film about Lincoln dramatizes the Civil War to some degree, and they typically allude to Ford's Theatre, where he was assassinated. That's what...

Roger Deakins is as celebrated as cinematographers come. His work on everything from "No Country For Old Men," to "Blade Runner 2049" has elevated him to a status few others in his field attain. The man can seemingly do no wrong — unless you're Quentin Tarantino, who's railed against digital cameras while Deakins has fully embraced them.
But among Deakins' seemingly endless triumphs of cinematography, there's one that remains somewhat of an outlier. 2007's "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford'' is regarded by most who've seen it as one of the finest films of the 21st Century. Andrew Dominik's haunting, elegiac take on the Western sought to portray its titular character in a starkly unembellished way, so as to undermine the myth of him being a hero of the Old West. And Deakins' thoughtful and confident cinematography only helped to enhance the film's reflective tone.

The Western has been on life support for decades. One of the most popular and bankable genres in the silent film era, it experienced a decline in the 1930s, only to come back and dominate once again in 1939 with films such as the John Wayne-starring "Stagecoach" and James Stewart-led "Destry Rides Again." It would remain popular for several decades after that, producing more stars of the genre, including Clint Eastwood, before fizzling out once again by the 1970s. Since then we've seen Westerns pop up sporadically here and there, with some, including 1992's "Unforgiven," and 2010's "True Grit," enjoying significant success. Even in the last decade, we've seen some outstanding modern takes on the Western. But on the whole, the genre just isn't what it once was.

Renowned filmmaker R.J. Cutler directed and executive produced the four-part series.
“Murf the Surf tells the story of one of the most complicated and notorious American crime figures ever, Jack Roland Murphy,” Cutler has explained in a director’s statement, “who became America’s very first true crime television superstar in 1964, a mere few months after the assassination of John F. Kennedy.”

News of the recent arrest of the son of Jesse James has reportedly left his ex-wife Sandra Bullock feeling unnerved.
According to a report from RadarOnline, Bullock — who was married to the former “Monster Garage” star for five years — was “blindsided” by the arrest of James’ son
Jesse Eli James Jr. was sentenced to two days in jail earlier this year after pleading no contest to charges he assaulted ex-girlfriend Lucee Peterson. He was subsequently arrested for violating a protective order that Peterson was awarded by a judge.

Donald Trump said from behind a podium at Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday that he’s launching a campaign to take back the White House in 2024. It wasn’t exactly a rousing announcement. The former president seemed bored as he squinted at his teleprompter and regurgitated well-trod talking points about immigration, crime, the economy, and more, mixing in several rambling tangents.
The speech was so dull that even Sean Hannity cut away from it.

In silver screen Westerns, fantasy paints over reality. Real-life figures of that era, from lawmen like Wyatt Earp to outlaws like Jesse James, are as much heroes of cinema as fictional ones like the Man with No Name.
"Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" is one of the most famous cases of the former. It's also an unusual Western; its focus is foremost on character and comedy, while shootouts are secondary. It has an unconventional structure, with both a half-hour long chase scene that sustains suspense all the way, mixed with leisurely, vignette-structured pacing of contemporary New Hollywood films. When the film debuted in 1969, Westerns were on their way out. Reflecting history and the genre's twilight, "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" end with the pair dying at the hands of the Bolivian army.

The closing title card of the new Western Dead for a Dollar includes the dedication “In Memory of Budd Boetticher.” Had director Walter Hill worked during Boetticher’s era, he too may have churned out exceptional, modestly budgeted Westerns at a clip of roughly one a year, like Boetticher did for Columbia Pictures in the 1950s. Instead, Hill has settled for being one of a handful of contemporary repeat practitioners of the Western, a disparate group ranging from Clint Eastwood to the Coen Brothers, Kevin Costner to Quentin Tarantino. Hill’s first Western, The Long Riders—a retelling of the Jesse James story that […]

If you were an action fan in the 1970s, ’80s, or ’90s, one of the great pleasures of filmgoing was the experience, every year or two, of a new Walter Hill movie. No one else was really making movies like him, and no one had before; although his morally and philosophically oriented genre pictures owed something to the Westerns of Howard Hawks and the existential crime films of Jean-Pierre Melville, they weren’t really the same. Films like “The Driver,” “The Warriors,” and “48 Hours” were somehow both more heightened in their mythological resonances and more realistic in their behavior than the works of the American and European stylists on whose shoulders Hill stood.
Starting with “Hard Times” in 1975 and continuing on through masterpieces like “Southern Comfort,” “Streets of Fire,” “Johnny Handsome” and “Trespass,” Hill created a body of work that spoke to American culture both past and present, subtly...

Walter Hill is back with "Dead for a Dollar." The influential writer and director behind "48 Hrs," "Streets of Fire," Southern Comfort," "The Driver," and "The Warriors" has returned with another western. For Hill, all of his movies, in one way or another, are westerns. He tends to follow cowboys whether in the streets of New York, New Orleans, San Francisco, or in this case, Mexico.
Hill's latest follows a bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) sticking to his guns, both morally and literally. It's an ensemble film also starring Benjamin Bratt, Rachel Brosnahan, Willem Dafoe, and Warren Burke. Hill doesn't delight in the times he's depicting, only in the genre. "Dead for a Dollar" is now in good company with Hill's previous big-screen westerns, "Geronimo: An American Legend," "The Long Riders," and "Wild Bill." Recently, the filmmaker talked to us about his love of westerns and his exceptional contributions to the genre.

Director Andrew Dominik has a new film headed to select theaters, "Blonde," which will walk down the red carpet to Netflix a week from today to become the first Nc-17 streaming film ever released. "Blonde" has earned praise for its central Ana de Armas performance, but it's already proving as divisive as Dominik's last non-documentary film, "Killing Them Softly," starring Brad Pitt.
That movie came out ten years ago, while Dominik's filmography dates back even further to 2000 when he made his directorial debut with the Eric Bana-led "Chopper." There was a seven-year gap separating "Chopper" from Dominik's next effort, but his sophomore film was well worth the wait, and it happens to be commemorating its 15th anniversary today.
"Blonde" deals with celebrity and revisionist history — two narrative forces at work in "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford," which remains not only Dominik's best film...

How much dramatic license is excessive? Do artists have a responsibility to create positive representations around public figures, especially if they’re beloved and inspire reams of adulation and pity from admirers? Andrew Dominik, with his long, long-awaited adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ novel Blonde—a free biography of the life of Marilyn Monroe—maybe simply doesn’t care about these questions. Yet he undoubtedly cares about the real life––and especially the fragile inner world––of his subject, famously born Norma Jeane Desmond. But in his unforgiving portrait of her travails and lacks in this world he bravely gambles on (and will potentially lose) the majority of his audience’s good faith by focusing so heavily on the pain and affliction she endured.
For those very familiar with Marilyn Monroe, Blonde, running a fluidly edited two hours and 45 minutes, is not going to be revelatory; it certainly doesn’t...

Neither Vahid Jalilvand nor Andrew Dominik is a newbie when it comes to the Venice Film Festival. Though the Iranian director never before competed for the Golden Lion, his films have won many prizes at the Lido, screening within the festival's parallel sections. Maybe Beyond the Wall can repeat the feat and nab some trophy from Julianne Moore's jury. As for Andrew Dominik, his adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates' Blonde is already the topic of much controversy. Critics are divided regarding the movie's depiction of sexual exploitation – some see it as a ruthless dissection of celebrity culture, and others lament another voyeuristic desecration of Marilyn Monroe's personhood, intimacy, her legacy.
For the Venice at Home program, let's remember two instances when these cineastes directed their leading men towards acting prizes. No Date, No Signature won Navis Mohammadzadeh the Venice Horizons Award in 2017. Ten years before that,...

Casey Affleck heaped praise on Andrew Dominik’s forthcoming Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde during a press conference for his latest film Dreamin’ Wild at the Venice Film Festival Wednesday.
“I’ve seen Blonde and it’s incredible,” Affleck told press corps. “I’ve seen a couple of versions of Blonde and it’s taken him [Dominik] a long time to get it out into the world. But that’s just how he is. He’s so slow with it. And it’s an amazing, beautiful film.”
Affleck began discussing the Nc-17-rated flick after he was asked about his relationship with the film’s director Andrew Dominik whom he worked with on The Assassination of Jesse James, which also debuted in Venice.

80-year-old American director Walter Hill can lay claim to have invented at least two movie genres: the street gang film — with the seminal 1979 action thriller The Warriors — and the buddy cop movie with the 1982 Eddie Murphy/Nick Nolte hit 48 Hours. As a producer, Hill was behind Ridley Scott’s groundbreaking sci-fi horror blockbuster Alien and its franchise’s spin-offs, including the three Aliens sequels and the Scott-directed Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017).
But Hill’s first love is the Western. He’s explored the lives of Wild West legends Jesse James (in 1980s The Long Riders), Wild Bill Hickok (1995’s Wild Bill) and Geronimo (1993’s Geronimo: An American Legend) and turned Akira Kurosawa’s Yojimbo, the inspiration for Sergio Leone’s Spaghetti Western classic A Fistful of Dollars, into 1995 Prohibition era oater Last Man Standing.

Sandra Bullock may be in several of your favorite movies, but her favorite role to date is being a mom. "It's just like being a mom, I finally realize, 'Oh, this is what I was supposed to do when I grew up," she said. "Not be an actress; to be a mom. . . . This is my purpose," she told Today in 2018 of her two adopted children, Louis and Laila. The "Ocean's 8" star - among many, many other films - adopted both of her children from Louisiana after witnessing the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina.
She told Today, "Katrina happened in New Orleans, and I knew. Like, just something told me that my child was there. It was weird. It was very, very weird." And though she didn't adopt Louis right away, she found him a few years later. Or she would say, he found her. "The beautiful thing that I was constantly told was,...

The film “No Country for Old Men” tells the story of Llewelyn Moss, a welder and Vietnam veteran who finds a case of drug money in the aftermath of a bad drug deal.
Anton Chigurh, a relentless and psychopathic killer, attempts to make off with the money from the crime scene. The film follows Moss as he tries to outwit his pursuer while also dealing with the interference of Sheriff Ed Tom Bell, an old lawman who is struggling to come to terms with the changes that have taken place in his town.
“No Country for Old Men” film is written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, based on Cormac McCarthy’s 2005 novel. The tables turned on Roger and James Deakins on this week’s episode of the “Team Deakins” podcast as the two collaborators got interviewed by Oscar-nominated cinematographer Greig Fraser about the making of Andrew Dominik’s 2007 revisionist Western drama “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.” The original four-hour cut of “Jesse James” got trimmed down to a 160-minute theatrical cut because of studio notes. For Deakins, the 240-minute “Jesse James” was far superior but less commercial for Warner Bros.
“There was a four-hour cut that I actually loved,” Deakins said. “I read somewhere that it was shown at the Venice Film Festival in its four-hour version, but it doesn’t exist now, and that’s a shame. The studio’s problem was they thought there’d be more train robberies, and Brad Pitt would be more of a traditional Western outlaw. And when Brad was killed...

Photo: 'The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford'/Warner Bros. Pictures When asked what films I think are most underrated, my top answer is always Brad Pitt’s The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford. Andrew Dominik’s western is a fantastic genre update and a movingly morbid character study deserving of far more attention. The film centers on the doomed relationship between renowned outlaw Jesse James (Brad Pitt) and “Coward” Robert Ford (Casey Affleck), whose reverence for his idol turns into a life-altering obsession with tragic consequences. An Existential and Revisionist Western Assassination adopts western tropes in service of a more meditative tone. It is poetic in the best of ways. The opening scene boasts the wonderful piece of narration: “He also had a condition that was referred to as granulated eyelids, and it caused him to blink more than usual as...

The story of Ned Kelly and his gang is the focus of director Justin Kurzel’s new film, but the Australian bushranger isn’t new to the cinema. The Story of the Kelly Gang, released in 1906, is considered the first feature-length film, clocking in at 60 minutes. Mick Jagger later played Kelly in 1970, as did Heath Ledger in 2003.
Despite the character’s recurrence in cinema akin to the likes of A Star Is Born, tastemakers and Kelly experts believe there is yet to be a definitive Ned Kelly picture. Kurzel’s depiction of the outlaw, featuring George MacKay as a hairless, androgenous Kelly, has been divisive for its factual inaccuracies. Yet the director keeps the allure of Ned Kelly alive by refusing to capture his image in a “Holy Grail of a great Ned Kelly film,” as he tells us. Rather, he believes he’s captured Kelly’s essence.

It’s not much of an exaggeration to say that as long as there have been movies, there have been movies about Ned Kelly. The 19th-century bushranger, born just a few years after Jesse James and Wyatt Earp on a different frontier across the ocean, was the subject of what’s widely considered to be the very first…...

Discovery Channel’s “Bering Sea Gold” Season 9 is now set to premiere on Friday, May 8. TheWrap was first to report the show’s initial April return date, but that — like so much Spring 2020 TV — had to be delayed amid the coronavirus pandemic.
We’ve also got your first look at the new episodes, and boy oh boy is it going to be a dramatic underwater mining season in Nome, Alaska.
“Mayday, mayday! Catastrophic dire failure!” Captain Ken Kerr of the Myrtle Irene calls in the clip, which is also exclusive to TheWrap.
“This is history right here,” Emily Riedel, the captain of The Eroica, says. “This is the end of the Myrtle Irene.”

Discovery reported Thursday it had beaten Wall Street’s earnings expectations for the fourth quarter of 2019, despite lower ratings and continued cord-cutting.
Wall Street forecast earnings per share (Eps) of 93 cents on $2.87 billion in revenue, according to a consensus estimate compiled by Yahoo Finance. Discovery actually reported adjusted Eps of 98 cents on $2.874 billion in revenue, a revenue increase of 2% over 2018’s Q4.
For the three-month period ending Dec. 31, 2019, net income increased to $476 million. Growth there was thanks to lower income tax expense and restructuring charges, as well as higher revenues, which was all partially offset by an increased investment in streaming. That last point led to higher operating costs.

In Q4, advertising and distribution revenues increased both in the U.S. and internationally.
Domestically, ad sales growth was due to pricing increases, which partially offset lower overall TV ratings.
