Marvel Studios’ X-Men movie is gaining momentum as the project lands a writer.
Michael Lesslie, who is known for his work on the series The Little Drummer Girl and the recent prequel feature The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, is in talks to pen the new film focused on Marvel Comics’ iconic mutant team, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The feature does not currently have a release date or a director attached.
X-Men remains a popular property for Disney following the recent success of well-reviewed Disney+ animated series X-Men ’97. The show is a reboot of the fondly remembered X-Men: The Animated Series, which launched in 1992.

Spider-Man projects have always been a soft spot for superhero fans. Be it films, animated masterpieces, or videogames; projects featuring any version of the websligger are bound to reach impressive numbers. This has been the case for many years, dating back to when Tobey Maguire’s film was first released in 2002.

However, Marvel fans collectively agree that there are three main live-action Spider-Men; Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland. All have had iconic runs, shared the screen together, and caused conflicts among fans.
Many have argued about who did their job as the character best, and a recent number may clear one contender completely off the list.

Just over a week into Cannes, some major contenders have already found homes, while many more buzzy titles with Palme d’Or aspirations are awaiting buyers. This year’s market hasn’t been weighed down by the writers or actors strikes in the same way as last year, meaning companies like A24, Neon, Apple, and more have jumped in on exciting packages of possibly future contenders.
Below we’re tracking everything that gets bought throughout the festival and beyond.
Films Acquired During the Festival “The Kingdom”
Section: Un Certain Regard
Director: Julien Colonna
Buyer: Metrograph Pictures
Date Acquired: May 21
Cast: Ghjuvanna Benedetti
Buzz: Metrograph’s second acquisition out of Cannes also came from Un Certain Regard, and this time the distributor picked up a very commercial mob thriller from the debut filmmaker Colonna. IndieWire’s review called it an “intense coming-of-age crime saga” and compared it to the 1980 crime classic “The Long Good Friday.

It was recently announced that Michael Sarnoski (Pig, the upcoming horror prequel A Quiet Place: Day One) is directing an upcoming film titled The Death of Robin Hood, said to be a darker reimagining of the classic story starring Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer.
Variety provides an update on the project this afternoon, revealing that A24 has purchased the U.S. rights to The Death of Robin Hood, with production taking place early next year.
A24 is planning a theatrical release for the film.
The Death of Robin Hood is said to be “a darker reimagining of the classic Robin Hood tale. Set of its time, the film will see the title character grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, a battleworn loner who finds himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman who offers him a chance at salvation.”

Phase five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a real crisis for Kevin Feige and co. The Marvel Studios head has been forced back to the drawing board in the wake of audiences realizing, en masse, that there's been far too much of the MCU and it's getting ridiculous. Since then, Disney and Marvel Studios have seemingly taken their declining box office returns and the general superhero malaise that has settled among audiences seriously. The biggest and most promising sign of an actual course-correction taking place was the announcement that we'll be getting far fewer MCU movies in the future, with only a single movie in the shared universe releasing in 2024.
That movie is, of course, "Deadpool & Wolverine," the first Deadpool movie from Marvel Studios and a potential "Spider-Man: No Way Home"-level event. Not only will this film bring Hugh Jackman's Wolverine out of retirement, but...

In a competitive situation, A24 has acquired U.S. rights to Michael Sarnoski’s The Death of Robin Hood, which will star Oscar nominee Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer. It hails from Lyrical Media and Ryder Picture Company.
Lyrical is fully financing the film. Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett will produce under their Ryder Picture Company banner alongside Alexander Black for Lyrical. Lyrical’s Jon Rosenberg and Natalie Sellers will executive produce with Rama Gottumukkala, Sarnoski and Hugh Jackman.
A24 is planning a theatrical release. WME Independent, which represents worldwide sales rights to the film, negotiated on behalf of the filmmakers with A24 at the Cannes market.
The film follows an aging Robin Hood grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder who finds himself gravely injured after a battle he thought would be his last. In the hands of a mysterious woman, he is offered a chance at salvation.

A24 has nabbed U.S. rights to “The Death of Robin Hood,” one of the hottest packages at this year’s Cannes. The Sherwood Forest-set film stars Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer and is directed by Michael Sarnoski, the filmmaker behind the critically acclaimed “Pig” and this summer’s “A Quiet Place: Day One.”
According to the official logline, the film will find Robin Hood “grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder.” Instead of the merry outlaw seen in certain previous versions of the story, like the one portrayed by Errol Flynn, this Robin Hood is “a battle-worn loner [who] finds himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman, who offers him a chance at salvation.” Production on “The Death of Robin Hood” is set to begin in 2025. A24 will release the film theatrically. Negotiations were highly competitive with several potential buyers circling the film.

There are few stories that have come out of Marvel that are as influential as Old Man Logan. There is no doubt, that the company has some of superhero fiction’s greatest stories, but few have the caliber and the complexity of a piece like Old Man Logan, which follows an elderly Wolverine, who has given up the use of his claws after he was tricked into killing the X-Men and other mutants in Xavier’s Institute.

The comic book served as inspiration (in part) for 2017’s Logan, which saw Hugh Jackman essay the role of Fox’s version of Wolverine for the final time. The book has some of Logan’s most violent moments, one of which shows how far Logan can go even without using his claws. Deadpool & Wolverine "This Is Cinema" Promo Reveals New Footage From Wade Wilson And Logan's Team-Up
"This. Is. Cinema."
Marvel Studios has released a new promo for Deadpool & Wolverine which sees the Merc with the Mouth brace us for what's to come in the threequel.
Much of what he says appears to have been taken from the recent recording session Ryan Reynolds shared footage from, but there are some never-before-seen snippets of footage to be found here as well.
That includes a new look at Giant-Man's remains in The Void and a Paul Rudd joke previously only seen after fans recorded part of an IMAX-exclusive Deadpool & Wolverine sneak peek in theaters.
"If audiences feel one ounce of what I felt every day, which is, 'It's Wolverine and Deadpool,'" director Shawn Levy recently enthused. "It's these guys as their most legendary, iconic characters at the top of their game. Together, it's just...audience delight. I felt it every day at work."

In the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer, Paradox, Deadpool’s assigned Tva agent, talked about how a Wolverine that he was referring to let down his entire world, as the camera focuses on Wolverine, in costume, lying on the floor of the Tva, possibly incapacitated. A theory has emerged pointing towards how Wolverine could have let down his world, and it ties in directly with a certain comic book run that has been widely influential for the Wolverine of the Fox-verse.

Tickets for Deadpool & Wolverine went on sale yesterday and there's clearly a lot of excitement for the movie. According to Fandango, the Marvel Studios movie has broken the 2024 record for best first-day ticket sales.
It's also outpacing Deadpool and Deadpool 2, suggesting the movie will be a box office hit when it opens this July.
After a string of titles have underperformed in recent weeks, exhibitors are desperate for a superhero blockbuster like Deadpool & Wolverine. Unfortunately, last year's strikes mean that's all they (and us) are getting in 2024. The world of comic book movies stands largely on the shoulders of devoted actors who have dedicated a large portion of their careers to playing famed roles. From Chris Evans as Captain America to Scarlett Johanson as Black Widow, the list goes on. However, in terms of holding on to that role for the longest time ever, no one comes close to Hugh Jackman and his stint as Wolverine. However, despite a staggering tenure of 24 years and continuing, the actor has not evaded the thought of letting go of his character.

Deadpool And Wolverine Bond Over A Beer In New Advert; Ryan Reynolds Shares Disclaimer For The Movie
Following yesterday's latest teaser for Deadpool and Wolverine, we have a new advert for Heineken Silver, which sees Wade Wilson and Logan take a break from beating the crap out of each other to enjoy a beer together.
The clip begins with Wolverine preparing to pop his claws, when the Merc With a Mouth reveals that he "borrowed" some of the mutant's adamantium in order to "create something special."
This footage won't be in the actual movie (unless it's even more meta than we realized), but we wouldn't be at all surprised if there's some blatant product placement in there!
In addition, Ryan Reynolds has released a very funny disclaimer for the upcoming movie in an effort to keep our expectations in check.
“We’re very excited to be joining you July 26. But we should set the table correctly. This film is as paper thin as a sequel to Battlefield Earth.

Let’s not beat around the bush; Marvel’s going through something right now. The superhero studio’s recent output has simply exhausted both casual and hardcore fans alike.
The sentiment appears to be close to universal too: amidst the avalanche of MCU content, there have been too few hits and too many misses. The fact that Bob Iger, Disney’s Chief Executive Officer, has publicly said that they’re going to change strategy and “slowly decrease volume” tells you everything you need to know.
So how does Marvel proceed from here? MCU mastermind Kevin Feige is seemingly planning to course-correct by re-assembling the Avengers sooner rather than later. Next year alone will see the release of Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, The Fantastic Four, and Blade, followed a few months later by a new Avengers—previously subtitled “The Kang Dynasty,” though that’s reportedly been abandoned.
It’s a sensible play.

2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine was the clawed mutant's first solo movie...and an utter disappointment. Despite that, the hero did ultimately get a (somewhat disjointed) trilogy thanks to The Wolverine and Logan, with both proving to be significant improvements.
The latter ended Hugh Jackman's run as Wolverine by killing the character, and we expected that to be it for him. Heck, so did the actor himself as Jackman confirmed on multiple occasions that he was retiring from a role he'd been cast in nearly two decades earlier.
Ryan Reynolds managed to convince Jackman to make a comeback and he'll now play a different Wolverine Variant in this summer's Deadpool & Wolverine.
Recently Jackman spoke to Fandango about what drew him back to the Marvel Universe (we don't anticipate this being a one-and-done as Jackman is a dead cert for Avengers: Secret Wars). Unsurprisingly, it sounds like the chance to...

Ryan Reynolds is shocked that Disney have allowed 'Deadpool and Wolverine' to be a "Hard R".The 47-year-old star will reprise his role as the wise-cracking superhero in the long-awaited blockbuster this summer and is "surprised" that the studio gave film bosses the creative content for an adult story featuring Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.Ryan told Fandango: "I'm really proud of them for doing this. I think it's a huge step for them. It adds a whole other colour to this kaleidoscopic wheel that is that company and the different people that they have been entertaining for forever."The 'If' actor added: "I was surprised though that they let us go as Hard R... but very grateful. We are just weeks away from the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ a film significant for several reasons. It marks the MCU’s first “R” rated movie, introduces Deadpool into the MCU, and features Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine after his on-screen death in ‘Logan.’
Jackman had announced his retirement from the role years ago and reiterated this in numerous interviews. Yet, he is back, starring in a movie expected to redeem the studio after a series of disappointing releases over the past year.
Recently, it came to light that Feige himself discouraged Jackman from reprising his role as Wolverine, fearing it would tarnish the character’s perfect ending in ‘Logan.’ However, through clever plot devices, Jackman can now return without directly impacting the original Wolverine storyline.

Only a few weeks stand between us and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’. The movie is significant for several reasons. It’s MCU’s first “R” rated movie, it’s the movie that’s going to bring Deadpool into the MCU, and it’s Jackman’s first appearance as Wolverine since his on-screen death in ‘Logan.’
Jackman was supposed to retire from the role years ago, and he claimed that in numerous interviews over the years, and yet he is back, in a movie that’s supposed to redeem the studio from the line of failures that they released over the last year.
Recently, we’ve learned that Feige himself discouraged Jackman from returning as Wolverine, not to spoil the perfect ending for the character that ‘Logan’ had. But through some clever plot devices, he can now return without touching The original Wolverine.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is shaping up to be the most anticipated upcoming MCU release for several compelling reasons. Firstly, the movie is rumored to feature numerous cameos and variants. Additionally, it’s Deadpool’s debut in the MCU and marks the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, despite his previous retirement from the role. There’s also speculation that this film will lead into ‘Secret Wars,’ though this remains unconfirmed.
One of the most persistent rumors is that Taylor Swift will appear as Dazzler. This rumor has been circulating for at least a year, backed by notable scoopers and leakers. The speculation gains traction considering Ryan Reynolds is a huge fan of Swift, and his wife, Blake Lively, is close friends with the artist.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is the hottest upcoming MCU release, for a few good reasons. The movie is rumored to include numerous cameos & variants, it’s Deadpool’s first foray into the MCU, and it’s the movie that managed to pull Hugh Jackman out of his Wolverine retirement. It’s also rumored to lead into ‘Secret Wars’ but we’re going to take this with a grain of salt.
Among those mentioned cameos & variants, is Taylor Swift appearing in the movie as Dazzler. This is one of the most persistent rumors, being traced back at least a year ago to notable scoopers and leakers. It’s especially convincing when you take into account that Reynolds is a huge fan of Swift, and his better half Blake Lively is good friends with the artist.

Hugh Jackman has played Wolverine for almost 24 years since the first X-Men film in 2000. The actor’s compelling and intense performance as the character has been loved by audiences, and he and the character have become synonymous with each other. Fans have since believed that only Jackman could have played Wolverine as well as one could.

Good luck imagining Deadpool & Wolverine without a rated-r certification. To everyone’s surprise, Disney was open to the idea of going against their very ideals of containing their movies as PG as possible. But Ryan Reynolds, who was exclusively involved in the creative process of the movie, also made changes to the original draft.

New reports surrounding the movie suggest that after the reshoot, Deadpool & Wolverine was far better than the previous version. Directed by the director of Free Guy and The Adam Project and long-time collaborator of Reynolds, Shawn Levy was in agreement to make the necessary changes following the wrap of the movie.

The Taylor Swift as Dazzler rumors first began when the singer's likeness was used for the musical mutant's album cover in X-Men: Apocalypse. Nothing ever came of it back then, but the rumors persisted.
Speculation really kicked into overdrive when the pop megastar was spotted at the Kansas City Chiefs versus New York Jets game with Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy and stars Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) in 2023.
Levy was asked about the Dazzler rumors last year, and declined to confirm or deny Swift's involvement in the R-rated threequel.
“I’m going across the board. ‘No comment’ because that’s a double whammy. That’s Taylor-related. And it’s McU-related. I’m no dummy. You’re going to have to wait and see.”

Deadpool & Wolverine is an R-rated movie, and star Ryan Reynolds says he’s “surprised” Disney gave the filmmakers the creative freedom to get there.
“I’m really proud of them for doing this,” Reynolds said in an interview with Fandango. “I think it’s a huge step for them. It adds a whole other color to this kaleidoscopic wheel that is that company and the different people that they have been entertaining for forever.”

Ryan Reynolds said this week he was “surprised” Disney allowed the R-rating on their upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. The film, out July 26, will be Marvel’s first R movie.

Ryan Reynolds said in a new video interview with Fandango that he is “surprised” Disney allowed the upcoming “Deadpool and Wolverine” to be so R-rated. The movie is the first “Deadpool” film to be released under Disney following the company’s acquisition of Fox, which made Reynolds’ first two R-rated “Deadpool” movies that grossed just over $780 million each at the worldwide box office. Comic book fans feared Disney might tamp down the franchise’s R-rating given its commitment to family entertainment, but Reynolds and director Shawn Levy were granted permission to continue with the raunchy humor.

Marvel debuted a new 60-second promo (check it out here) and poster for Deadpool and Wolverine earlier today when tickets went on sale, and we now have an updated synopsis for the studio's "most significant mistake to date."
We've seen a few different versions (most likely placeholders for merchandizing purposes) of this logline already, but this is by far the most unserious yet!
“Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date - Deadpool & Wolverine," it reads. "A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier... reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to - F*ck. Synopses are so f*cking stupid.”

Tickets for Deadpool & Wolverine went on sale earlier today and, if what we're seeing on social media is any indication, they're selling out fast.
Now, in what we'd imagine is the first of many tongue-in-cheek promos, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman come together to remind fans that tickets are currently available.
There's a cheeky shot at the latter's Tony Awards success before things get awkward as both actors reflect on a brutal fight scene between the movie's title characters. Oh, and the whole thing kicks off with Reynolds slowly peeling a banana to Madonna's "Like A Prayer."
While we're pretty sure there are at least a few snippets of new footage in there, that familiar shot of Logan sinking his claws into the Merc with the Mouth's crotch doesn't get any easier to watch!

Get ready for one of the most hyped Marvel releases of the year! Deadpool & Wolverine are on their way to tickle your funny bone (and possibly rip a few off) with their buddy anti-hero action comedy, and we finally have an official synopsis that sounds as nuts as the genre we mentioned above. And it seems like Marvel Studios is fully into this R-rated ride.

Though the previous trailers have perfectly encapsulated the wild adventure fans can expect in the upcoming MCU flick, the various cameos and multiple plotlines might sound rather confusing. And it seems like the studio is just as clueless and quite fed up with Wade Wilson’s gore-filled shenanigans.

Deadpool & Wolverine’s official release date is July 26, but certain theatres, such as Regal and AMC, will let audiences see the film a day earlier!
One of the earliest screenings I could find was at 12:45 Am on July 25. It’s an IMAX showing at an AMC theatre. Is the Deadpool sequel worth a midnight trip to the cinema?

Tickets are now on sale for Deadpool & Wolverine, and Fandango recently caught up with director Shawn Levy and stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman to learn more about this long-awaited team-up.
The filmmaker started by addressing the threequel's R-Rating, explaining why it was important to keep the movie in line with Wade Wilson's previous big screen adventures.
"We were clear from the get-go. We said, 'Well, the three of us are going to do this and we've got to be truthful to the tone of a Deadpool movie.' That means we're not softening the edges," Levy said. "We're going to be audacious and funny and edgy, the way I know I, as a fan, want from Logan and from Wade Wilson."
"I have to say, every time Ryan, Hugh, and I went in expecting pushback, we got support from Kevin, from everyone at Disney. They have trusted us...

Tickets for Deadpool and Wolverine are now on sale, and Marvel Studios has marked the announcement with a new teaser and poster.
The minute-long promo for Wade Wilson's Marvel Cinematic Universe debut only features a few new shots (Wolverine's mask is still nowhere to be seen), but there is a funny, if typically juvenile, gag right at the end, as the Merc With a Mouth asks Logan to "hold still" while he finishes... pulling his sword out.
The poster spotlights Wade and Wolvie locked in combat. It's a pretty cool one-sheet, but again, it seems like the studio has decided to keep the iconic mutant's full costume under wraps until audiences are sitting down to watch the movie.
This would usually be a smart strategy, but the impact will be lessened somewhat by the fact that we've already seen so much promo art spotlighting the mask. Maybe Marvel should...
