- Appears as surplus Jenny airplane dealer in The Spirit of St. Louis (1957). In real life, as a young man, he learned to fly airplanes from the Wright Brothers.
- Two of his very last roles were in classic 1950s sci-fi films: as the resident in the hospital alcoholic ward who sings "Make me sergeant in charge of the booze!" in Them! (1954), then as the rancher who is the first victim of The Blob (1958).
- He and Irving Bacon are the only actors to appear in the first two versions of "A Star Is Born": A Star Is Born (1937) and A Star Is Born (1954).
- He played the same role (Mr. Davis, Amy March's schoolteacher) in two versions of "Little Women": Little Women (1933) and Little Women (1949).
