Chicago Fire Season 12, Episode 9, aired Wednesday night and featured a flush of new and returning characters at the firehouse.
The new Chicago Fire episode packed the information in during its first few moments. Through chats between people from Firehouse 51, viewers got updates on many storylines.
Sylvie Brett is enjoying her time in Portland, despite it raining a lot there. Mouch talked with one of their patients as he continued running the paramedicine route.
A quick discussion about firefighter Jake Gibson taking care of himself off-screen was had, with Stella Kidd and Sam Carver worrying about him. He left the firehouse during the previous episode due to a drug problem.
Chief Boden’s son Jimmy (Stephen Ruffin) is back. Recently, he began living with his dad in Chicago and took on jobs as a driver and a report filer for the firehouse. This means more scenes to come featuring him and his dad.

The new Chicago Fire episode will have Kelly Severide working with Tom Van Meter again.
Captain Van Meter is a commander and arson investigator for the Chicago Fire Department’s Office of Fire Investigation (Ofi).
When Ofi becomes part of an episode, fans already know that it means a suspicious fire has happened.
Van Meter is featured in the April 3 episode called Something About Her. Actor Tim Hopper returns to play the character, giving “Fire Cop” a chance to shine with him.
This will serve as Chicago Fire Season 12, Episode 9, leaving just four more new episodes after it to debut this spring.
“Severide, Kidd, and Van Meter investigate a fire at a recording studio. Kylie helps James keep a secret from Boden. Mouch struggles to maintain boundaries with a paramedicine client,” reads the Chicago Fire synopsis for April 3.

Firehouse 51 is gearing up to welcome back one of its own.
Taylor Kinney is set to return to Chicago Fire for the NBC drama’s 12th season, which will begin production following resolution of the actors strike. Sources say the Chicago Fire writers room has written Kinney’s Kelly Severide back into the show in early episodes; it’s unclear at the moment whether the character will be back for good or just for a handful of episodes.
Kinney took a leave of absence from the series in the latter part of the 2022-23 season for what sources described as a personal matter. On screen, Severide’s absence was explained by saying the character was attending an arson investigation program, and the show implied he would return. In his first episode away, a conversation between Capt. Van Meter (Tim Hopper) and Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) suggested that when Severide completed the program,...

Plot: Jonny Baptiste is a reckless teen sent to live with her estranged Aunt Hildie. On her 18th birthday, she experiences a radical metamorphosis: a family spell that redefines her called Forevering. When several teen girls go missing at her new school, a mythically feral Jonny goes after the Perpetrator.
Review: Female empowerment has never been as prevalent in horror as it has been over the last twenty years. With women shifting from victims and buxom eye candy to protagonists and heroic final girls, horror has experimented more and more with the ideas of gender, race, and sexuality than ever before. Jennifer Reeder’s new film, Perpetrator, takes on all these concepts along with a dash of pitch-black humor in a film almost beyond categorization. Drawing influences from Clueless and Heathers to Society and Suspiria, Reeder’s latest film is an interesting blend of ideas that do not come together in the end,...

Writer-director Jennifer Reeder’s Perpetrator cycles through characters and settings at a considerable clip, never stopping long enough to flesh them out beyond an outline. First, in a pre-credits teaser, a masked serial killer abducts a girl walking alone at night. The film then cuts to protagonist Jonny (Kiah McKirnan) breaking into a house before fencing the stolen goods for rent money that she gives to her ailing father (Tim Hopper).
Across this opening stretch of the film, the audience watches Jonny in this setting just long enough to sense her ennui—that she’s desperate to flee her dead-end life. Soon enough, she’s on a train and getting out of Dodge, on her way to live with her aunt Hildie (Alicia Silverstone). And it’s then that she starts to develop strange abilities that directly channel the feelings of the people around her—as well as those of...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Chicago Fire Season 11 Episode 21 “Change of Plans.”] The title of the latest Chicago Fire applies to what’s going on with Lieutenant Kelly Severide while Taylor Kinney is on a leave of absence from the NBC drama … but who knows what? It’s while Cruz (Joe Minoso), who’s been acting as squad lieutenant with Severide is away, that he learns that things have changed. Severide’s no longer in Alabama — where he’d been after a spot opened up in the best arson investigation program. As had been detailed in a conversation between Ofi’s Van Meter (Tim Hopper) and Boden (Eamonn Walker), that didn’t mean that Severide would be transferring to arson investigation, but he’d return with expertise that would benefit the entire department. But now it turns out that Severide made quite an impression and is pitching in on some big investigation somewhere. Cruz, of course,...

Matt Casey just can’t stay away from the Windy City. Jesse Spencer will be back for the Chicago Fire Season 11 finale, airing Wednesday, May 24. (The series has already been renewed for Season 12.) This comes after he appeared in Episode 18 this season, when he was in town working with Homeland Security on a task force with Lieutenant Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) … and awkwardly reuniting with paramedic Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer). Additionally, Taylor Kinney (who plays Lieutenant Kelly Severide) isn’t scheduled to appear; he’s been on a leave of absence dealing with a personal matter since January. It was in Episode 15 (which aired March 1) that Fire explained where Severide is in the meantime: A spot opened up in the best arson investigation program (in Alabama). Ofi’s Van Meter (Tim Hopper) assured Boden (Eamonn Walker) that didn’t mean that he’d be transferring to arson investigation. Rather,...

This might make missing Taylor Kinney as Lieutenant Kelly Severide on Chicago Fire a bit easier: A familiar face will be back. Jesse Spencer will reprise his role as Matt Casey in Season 11 Episode 18, according to Variety. We’ll have to wait to find out what brings him back to Chicago — and likely leads to some sort of reunion for him and ex-girlfriend Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer). Chances are we won’t see Casey with his best friend, Severide. Kinney has taken a leave of absence, and it was in Episode 15, “Damage Control,” that we found out his character is out for the time being because a spot opened up in the best arson investigation program, via a conversation between Boden (Eamonn Walker) and Ofi’s Van Meter (Tim Hopper). The expertise that Severide comes back with will help the entire department. In fact, it was in that episode that...

Taylor Kinney is taking a leave of absence from Chicago Fire, the series he has starred on as fan-favorite Kelly Severide since 2012.
The actor’s departure is due to a personal matter, a source close to production confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter following Wednesday night’s episode, which began to handle the shift for the character.
The actor did not appear in the episode, titled “Damage Control,” but his character’s wife, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), acknowledged his absence after it was explained that Severide had left to attend a top arson investigation program. The conversation between Captain Tom Van Meter (Tim Hopper) and Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) strongly implied the character will return, as Van Meter explained that Severide jumping on the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will give him expertise that will benefit the entire firehouse when he returns.
NBC declined to comment about Kinney’s departure and if he will return.

Taylor Kinney’s Kelly Severide is off getting some specialized arson training.
During Wednesday’s episode of Chicago Fire on NBC, Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) learns from Captain Tom Van Meter (Tim Hopper) that Taylor Kinney’s character, Severide, has been abruptly sent off to receive some of “the best arson investigation training program in the world.” The very quick reference to Severide’s whereabouts — or lack thereof — happened at the top of the episode and did not feature an appearance by Kinney.
“I know it will be a burden on this house for a while,” Van Meter tells a disappointed Boden.
You can say that again.
In January, Deadline broke that Kinney is taking a leave of absence from the NBC drama to deal with a personal matter. Kinney has starred as the firefighter on the Dick Wolf procedural since its launch in 2012.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Chicago Fire Season 11 Episode 15 “Damage Control.”] We’ve known that Taylor Kinney has taken a leave of absence from Chicago Fire, and it’s in the March 1 episode that we find out how Lieutenant Kelly Severide’s absence onscreen will be explained. At the end of the previous episode, he joined his wife, Lieutenant Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), at Molly’s. “Hey, I got your message about Van Meter. What’s going on?” she asked, and he showed her his phone. “Wow. What are you going to do?” she asked. He didn’t answer. So what’s going on with Van Meter (Tim Hopper)? Is it Ofi-related? Yes, it turns out: As Van Meter explains to Boden (Eamonn Walker) when he stops by 51 very early on in “Damage Control,” he took his squad lieutenant out of commission on a day’s notice because a spot opened up in the...

"We are looking for Jerry." Fandor has debuted an official trailer for an indie dramedy feature called Our Father, which premiered at this year's SXSW Film Festival playing in the main competition. Marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Bradley Grant Smith, the film is described as a "sardonic drama/dark comedy" about two estranged sisters attempting to bond while in search of their mysterious long-forgotten Uncle Jerry. Who may hold the key to their father's suicide and their family's unhappiness. One review says it's "an offbeat odyssey with outwardly small tangible stakes, but calamitous emotional ones..." The indie films stars Baize Buzan & Allison Torem as the two sisters, with Austin Pendleton, Tim Hopper, Guy Massey, Keith Kupferer, and Lance Baker. Not really sure if this one is worth a watch, but there's something strangely appealing about the awkward, tragic concept that got my attention. Take a look below. Here's...

Chicago – Getting his debut film – “Our Father” – into the 2021 South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival was a major achievement for writer/director Bradley Grant Smith, and puts the spotlight on his emerging talent and perspective. Smith is also a musician … he provided the soundtrack for the film as well.
This film has a Chicago connection, as it is populated with theater folk from the Windy City and Goodman Theatre, which includes writer/director Smith. It’s the story of two sisters, Zelda (Allison Torem) and Beta (Baize Buzan), who are reunited when their father commits suicide. This begins a cavalcade of circumstances, including a bizarre encounter with their half brothers. The film takes place in a dream-like state, in which all the sister’s encounters become fodder for their status as women, and the men they come across. The great character actor Austin Pendleton makes a cameo as a key relative,...

It’s surely not going to be the last.
Our Father director Bradley Grant Smith hits the nail on the head when he tells us that, “Aleksander’s poster work appeals to me in general because he sees so deeply into each film’s psychology and then creates these revelatory, visual expansions of the film’s inner life—going way beyond a simple representation of the plot. Jennifer Reeder’s “Knives and Skin” will test the limits of viewer patience. The positive qualities lie in the surrealistic film’s bold cinematography, distinctive use of music, and diversity of cast, though that’s not enough to redeem this tedious viewing experience. Following a festival run that began at the Berlinale, IFC Midnight is giving the film a limited release in theaters Dec. 6, day-and-date with VOD.

Writer/director Jennifer Reeder has been making off-beat movies for some time but her latest feature film Knives and Skin easily takes the cake as one of the most unique hodgepodges of a movie I've seen all year.
The mystery begins when Carolyn Harper disappears. As the small town becomes engulfed in the mystery of what happened to Carolyn, the women in town, both young and old, seem to come to a collective realization that there's more wrong than simply Carolyn's disappearance.
Marika Engelhardt, Audrey Francis, Tim Hopper and Kate Arrington star.
While I can appreciate Reeder's vision of a fresh new take on the coming-of-age story and her revamp of the tired "dead girl" trope, I...

"Can you feel that?" IFC has debuted an official trailer for an indie neo-noir titled Knives and Skin, the latest from artist / filmmaker Jennifer Reeder. This first premiered at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year, and also stopped by the Tribeca, Fantasia, FrightFest, Helsinki, and Vienna Film Festivals. Knives and Skin is a mystical teen noir that follows a young girl's disappearance in the rural Midwest and its effect on teens and parents. Described as a surreal "teen fever dream", the massive ensemble indie cast in this includes Marika Engelhardt, Grace Smith, Ireon Roach, Kayla Carter, Tim Hopper, Kate Arrington, Audrey Francis, Ty Olwin, Jalen Gilbert, Raven Whitley, Emma Ladji, James Vincent Meredith, Robert T. Cunningham, Tony Fitzpatrick, and Marilyn Dodds Frank. This seems pretty cool, but not so sure it's as unique as it claims to be. Worth a look anyway. The disappearance of a female teenager in a small rural town in America starts an almost domino effect of problems for the people that knew her… Knives and Skin is part coming of age drama part dark thriller and it manages to feel like nothing I have seen before.
Director Jennifer Reeder definitely has a certain vision and sees it out completely, even if, for me, it fails to work almost as much as it works. Although we assume it is set in present day, it almost feels like it is set in its own little universe with the fashion, dialogue and sets there own unique thing.
I did enjoy much of the set and costume design though. The...

When Laura Palmer is found dead and wrapped in plastic, her tragic end ripples throughout David Lynch’s Twin Peaks to devastating effect. An outsider in Agent Cooper enters the town to decipher the circumstances surrounding her demise with a cheery disposition that never fades—a direct contrast to the idyllic scene of nature and diner pies soon torn down as though a curtain clenched by the former homecoming queen’s hands, her final wish being the exposure of what lies beneath. It’s a dark tale layered in sin, a pervasive human evil attacking everyone within reach until even the purest of heart succumbs. Lynch paints it with a stylized, hyper-real affectation highlighting society’s desperation to survive its intrinsically pessimistic machinations, the melodrama amplified until happiness becomes rendered as fantasy.
What if this wasn’t the case, though? What if Laura’s murder was instead a sacrifice that...

Demons live on in Chicago, but Pazuzu is Rags-less.
The Exorcist Season 1 Episode 10 circled right back around to The Exorcist Season 1 Episode 1 by delivering on the promise of the intricate relationship between Father Tomas and Marcus, rescuing the Rance family and ensuring God was never out of reach.
This was all done masterfully by not only including characters from the original movie, but ensuring the laying the groundwork for what could be an interesting second season (if it's God's will).
It will be a terrible shame if there isn't a second season of The Exorcist, because this ended exactly where I wanted it two upon my first review.
It was initially hard to imagine what trajectory the series would take; if it was to focus on family first, as the showrunner believed it needed to draw in viewers and get them hooked, would it be sustainable?

Primary Stages is a reliable off-Broadway company that consistently mounts dramas most Broadway houses would not. Essentially they are theater's equivalent of indie movies, quirky and individual, and because of that they have developed a loyal audience.
The company, in the process of showcasing the Foote family at 59E59 Theatres, presented "Harrison, TX: Three Plays by Horton Foote" this summer.
"Him," which opens Tuesday, Oct. 9, is written by Foote's daughter, Daisy, and stars another daughter, Hallie.
Comparing the daughter to the father is not fair; he wrote the Oscar-winning screenplay "To Kill a Mockingbird" and the Pulitzer-winning play "The Young Man From Atlanta." Yet if their plays are presented as a group celebrating the family, it is difficult to ignore the familial ties, and to not draw comparisons.
This, unfortunately, is nowhere near as engaging as his work. In fact, it's not engaging at all.
