Tom Hodges is without a doubt an actor that belong back in the 80s and 90s no matter how much he’s aged and improved over the years since those two decades, especially the 80s, really defined him since he took on some of the best and most memorable roles of his career. In a way, it sounds as though I’m trying to minimize his talent by saying this, but the truth is that he created a couple of characters that are hard to forget since they were over the top to the point that it was difficult to let them

Why so glum, chum? Movies are fun and they need watching.
In the immortal words of Shane Black via Geena Davis in The Long Kiss Goodnight, “Life is pain. Get used to it.” These days life has been really painful though, and it’s not so easy to get used to it. Thankfully movies are always here to pick us up when we need it, or bring us down if we’re looking to wallow. This month we’ve made a list of movies that will leave you smiling and feeling good about humanity after you watch them — at least for a little while. Click on their titles to be taken to their Netflix pages.
Pick of the Month: Big Trouble in Little China (1986)

It's become a popular internet pastime to re-imagine Disney princesses as other characters/ethnicities/genders/artworks, and for good reason: The artists behind them often produce some amazingly creative work. That's the case for the latest mashup, which combines Disney's newest property, "Star Wars," with some of its classic princesses, in a series that artist Tom Hodges has dubbed "Once upon a long time ago."
The series transforms our familiar heroines into Jedi knights, many of whom closely resemble Rey (Daisy Ridley), the newest star of the "Star Wars" universe in "The Force Awakens." (And depending on how you look at it, Rey could be considered a Disney princess in her own right.) Elaborate ballgowns and dresses are transformed into the Jedi's traditional robes, while some (like Aurora's familiar cape) have their existing outfits stylized a bit more to fit the theme. Each comes equipped with her own lightsaber, as...

It’s been a while since I shone a spotlight on some stellar Disney Princess/??? mash-up. Whether depicting them as men, WoC (Women of Color), or zombie survivors, picking a genre and adding princesses is a time-honored Internet tradition. And with Star Wars being at the forefront of our pop culture consciousness, the only real question is why it took this long for a Jedi Princess crossover to happen. Artist Tom Hodges not only drew every single Disney Princess (save poor Eilonwy from “The Black Cauldron” who is Always forgotten) as a Force-wielding Jedi, but each one has her own twist on the Light Side. And they Are all Light Side. Perhaps Hodges will do a Sith Disney Villains collection to give these fierce ladies someone to battle. If anyone at Lucasfilm wants to make Merida’s lightsaber bow a reality, that’d be cool. Just sayin’. After the jump,...

There have been some Star Wars things happening around here lately, and whatever made this week a week that Star Wars and the internet decided to dance with each other, I can kind of trace it back to an artist named Tom Hodges who sketched a rough first look at our new Stormtrooper from Episode VII:
Now it delights me to be able to share with you similar work done by Puerto Rican artist Juan Fernandez.
These are of the Stormtrooper helmet photos, interpreted by Juan and his digital painting skills. From the first looks at the helmets to the ones posted yesterday and to see them rendered like concept art makes them feel so much more real.
They're not official concept art, they're just the creation of a Star Wars fan. But - they feel a lot more like Star Wars than a helmet on a table.

Today instead of just a single, long S7ARWARS(.com) column post, we're going to be making our own little trilogy of posts.
First, we'll clear up the Stormtrooper situation. This afternoon we'll reveal something about Episode VII that made my jaw literally drop when I heard it and this evening, I'll drop a normal ramble-filled column about how Everything Fits Together Now.
Ok? Let's have some fun. Spoilers ahead, all day.
Today seems to be the time to finally talk about Stormtroopers in Episode VII, what they’re going to look like and a few of their unique properties and abilities. It seems the internet is ready for some truth-telling and clarification. Let’s begin.
Artist Tom Hodges started this latest round of Stormtrooper madness, picking up the ball where we last put it down by sketching a Stormtrooper helmet from Episode VII and putting it on his various social media.

Earlier this week design artist Tom Hodges posted a sketch of a stormtrooper helmet from Star Wars: Episode VII, and many of you seemed unimpressed with the new look. Indie Revolver has what could be another look at the new stormtrooper designs, including one that is being referred to as the "Jungle Trooper." The site has "very reliable information" that the images are definitely for J.J. Abrams' new movie, but since these aren't official,...

According to the source in the link below, the design of trooper as seen in the first picture is being informally referred to as the "Jungle Trooper." It has earned this unofficial and unconfirmed nickname due to the design appearing in a sequence which takes place at the tree house set and around various Puzzlewood exteriors. As seen in the image above, the trooper mouth piece appears to be made of a mesh that allows more air to pass through for the actors. And, according to IndieRevolver, the breathing hole/vent seen close to the chin is only on one side. It would seem that the Tom Hodges sketch that leaked earlier wasn't too far off. Does the new Stormtrooper look excite you? Do you think the larger visors will give the troopers better aim and a longer life expectancy? Leave your comments below and tell us what you think.

Design artist Tom Hodges reportedly said this week that he got a look at the new design of the Stormtroopers being utilised in the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII". The design from the original trilogy has undergone some minor changes, though retains the feel of something Ralph McQuarrie had designed.
He couldn't take a photo, so he decided to draw a picture of the new design and post that image to Instagram. LucasFilm and Disney apparently weren't happy with that and so it's gone, but due to the nature of the Internet the photo is still online and being spread around with JoBlo retaining a copy.
Meanwhile filming is slated to restart on "Star Wars: Episode VII" later this month following a brief two-week hiatus to allow Harrison Ford to recover from his broken leg injury that he sustained on set back in June.

Star Wars: Episode VII is still a long way away, but like our earlier story regarding set photos, we will take what we can get. Disney appears one step closer to opening a Star Wars theme park, if we can trust that recent comments from Disney CEO Bob Iger aren't just a Jedi mind trick. After acquiring Lucasfilm last October for more than $4 billion, a theme park might compliment Disney's big plans for the franchise.
"In addition to the Star Wars feature films that we’ve already talked about, we’re also working on opportunities for television and our parks," Iger said during an earnings call Tuesday. "It’s still very early in the process. We’ll announce details as these developments evolve."
Disney's existing parks have performed exceptionally well as of late, with their operating income jumping 73 percent from a year ago, the Los Angeles Times reports. The company benefited from new areas at both its California and Florida park locations, according to The New York Times.

The upcoming romantic comedy Playing for Keeps may not look particularly enticing, but keep in mind that it’s written by Robbie Fox, who gave us the clever script for So I Married an Axe Murderer about 20 years ago. Of course, he followed that with a story credit on the Pauly Shore vehicle In the Army Now (which was rewritten) before disappearing for two decades — I’m only aware of one spec script he sold in 1999 for a time travel-based divorce comedy titled Twice Upon a Time, which has never been produced. He’s also done some uncredited work through his career, including rewrites on My Girl, but for the most part his output is unknown and inconsistent. Still, I thought it would be fun to go back to the beginning of his career and watch 25-year-old short film titled The Great O’Grady. Fox directed the 30-minute film in addition to scripting, and...

I have no doubt that Disney will be implementing more Star Wars attractions into their theme parks, and a lot of people speculate that one day we'll see a full on Star Wars Land section of the park. Hell! Maybe Star Wars will end up getting its own full theme park one day!
Above is a fun Star Wars theme park design that created by freelance artist Tom Hodges who's worked for Lucasfilm on various projects over the years. It was created a couple years ago for Orlando's Star Wars Celebration V. These aren't actual plans for a theme park, just something he did for the hell of it at the time. The map is based off an old 1966 Disneyland map.
Here's what Hodges had to say about George Lucas, the Disney deal and his artwork,
I’ve always looked at George Lucas as a modern-day Walt Disney.

With the explosive news that Disney bought LucasFilm (along with the rights to Star Wars & Indiana Jones), most people have been killing themselves to find out about Episodes 7-9, which Disney announced are forthcoming, with the first to come out in 2015.
A couple years ago, artist Tom Hodges did a mock up of what Disneyland would look like if Star Wars took it over, and now this dream could become a reality. What would a Star Wars theme park look like? Check out Hodges’ interpretation. It’s got food, a cantina, an amphitheater a pod race, a zoo, a Gungan adventure, with Kashyyyk, Mos Eisley, Hoth, Cloud City, and Coruscant all making an appearance. Oh, it all sounds wonderful.

Freelance artist Tom Hodges didn't know how timely his recent "Star Wars Universe Dream Park Park Map" would be when he created it for the Star Wars Celebration V event in Orlando over the summer. At the time, the 250 pieces of the limited edition art (which can be seen above) sold out almost immediately and quickly became collectibles.
The image was designed based off an old 1966 Disneyland map and showed what Hodges figured a "Star Wars" theme park would look like if it was styled after a Disney amusement park. Considering the recent news that Disney has acquired Lucasfilm, Hodges' fan rendering doesn't seem so farfetched anymore, and he knows it.
