Not only did we surprise Screambox subscribers with Abel Ferrara’s (Bad Lieutenant, King of New York) 1993 sci-fi horror classic Body Snatchers, but we’re also celebrating the 1986 slasher classic Killer Party, both streaming right now on Screambox.
It’s an early April Fool’s Day on Screambox when the sisters of Sigma Alpha Pi believe they’ve found the perfect place to throw a party: the abandoned fraternity house where a guillotined pledge once lost his head in a hazing gone awry.
“But shortly after their revelry begins, the student body count starts to rise as the vengeful pledge returns from the grave and makes it a party to die for.”

Like most folk, I’m a sucker for alien invasion films; I’m also down with conspiracy flicks, and I love seeing beautiful photography in foreign lands. If only there was a horror film that combines these somewhat disparate elements into a cohesive, satisfying whole. I honestly can’t think of one; but there is Alien Predators (1985), a pretty damn fun and nonsensical trip through Spain.
Filmed in ’84 and released on video in the U.K. in August of ’85, Alien Predators saw a very brief theatrical U.S. run in February of ’87 before being dumped onto video shelves for curious horror fans…like myself; as that’s when I first saw it, and I remember digging its pleasant nature and sparse but effective effects. A recent revisit however disclosed its greatest asset: a make-it-up-as-we-go willingness on the part of writer/director Deran Sarafian (Terminal Velocity) that results in a freewheeling travelogue with Nasa espionage,...

There may not be a ton of genre-related home media releases coming out this week, but the films that are coming to Blu-ray are an impressive bunch all the same. Universal has both Unsane and Pacific Rim Uprising on tap in a variety of formats, including 4K Ultra HD, and Scream Factory has a double dose of classic terror coming your way this Tuesday with Night of the Lepus and Alien Predators. And rounding out this week’s Blu-ray and DVD offerings is the indie thriller The Hollow Child, which comes home courtesy of Lionsgate.

Sean Penn: Honorary César goes Hollywood – again (photo: Sean Penn in '21 Grams') Sean Penn, 54, will receive the 2015 Honorary César (César d'Honneur), the French Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Crafts has announced. That means the French Academy's powers-that-be are once again trying to make the Prix César ceremony relevant to the American media. Their tactic is to hand out the career award to a widely known and relatively young – i.e., media friendly – Hollywood celebrity. (Scroll down for more such examples.) In the words of the French Academy, Honorary César 2015 recipient Sean Penn is a "living legend" and "a stand-alone icon in American cinema." It has also hailed the two-time Best Actor Oscar winner as a "mythical actor, a politically active personality and an exceptional director." Presenting “Love Always,” a recurring feature in which we pay tribute to the women who helped shape our views on pop culture.
This time we pay a 49th birthday tribute to one of the great child stars of all time, who overcame the pitfalls of Hollywood to carve out a successful adult career.
Here are ten reasons why I will Love Always … Brooke Shields.
She Introduced Us To Christopher Atkins And Martin Hewitt
In Blue Lagoon, Brooke and her breast merkin introduced us to the natural wonders of Christopher Atkins, and the two would learn the ways of sex by watching giant sea turtles copulating. A young couple incur the wrath of their parents in this insipid remake of an 80s film
American critic Roger Ebert astutely described Franco Zeffirelli's 1981 adaptation of Scott Spencer's novel as being "about events [when] it should be about passion". Had Ebert lived to see this commercials-inflected remake, he may have felt the need to reassess Zeffirelli's effort, which appears a towering masterpiece of raw human emotion by comparison. Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde step into the shoes of Martin Hewitt and Brooke Shields as the star-crossed lovers whose relationship incurs parental ire and fiery mishap, although this time the burning down of Daddy's house is robbed of the teenage recklessness that stoked the engines of the original. In its place we have a super-bland tale of love and heartbreak set in a world so soft focus that the strains of Lionel Richie and Diana Ross would seem alarmingly edgy.

Two romantic films just in time for Valentine.s! First we have .Winter.s Tale. starring Colin Farrell and Jessica Brown Findlay as a couple whose love transcends time. The movie also stars Russell Crowe, William Hurt, Eva Marie Saint, and a cameo by Will Smith as.gasp.Lucifer! This is from writer-director Akiva Goldsman based on the 1983 book by Mark Helprin.
We also have .Endless Love,. the remake of the ultra-schmaltzy 1981 original of the same name starring Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt from director Franco Zeffirelli. The 2014 remake is pretty much the same Romeo and Juliet rehash but this one stars Alex Pettyfer (.Magic Mike.) and Gabrielle Wilde (.The Three Musketeers.) with Shana Feste at the helm.

Jimmy Kimmel has fond memories of the original Endless Love, starring Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt. "It was a huge deal when I was in junior high school. It was rated R, so you had to kind of figure out a way to sneak in and see it," he told Thursday's Jimmy Kimmel Live! guest Alex Pettyfer, who stars in the remake. "Is this a movie you were at all familiar with?" he asked the British actor, who was born nine years after the film's 1981 release. "I watched the movie when I found out I got the part, and I read the book," said Pettyfer, who stars opposite Gabriella Wilde. "It's a very different movie than ours." Kimmel was unaware that the movies were adapted from the...

Here's a first look at Endless Love, Universal's remake of the 1981 film perhaps best known for giving us the Lionel Richie and Diana Ross ballad of the same name. The 1981 romantic drama starred Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt in an obsessive teenage love affair, based on the 1979 novel by Scott Spencer who, to put it mildly, wasn't a fan of the original movie. This new version is being billed as more of a romantic thriller, and is apparently targeting a younger crowd with several changes in plot, character, and geography. Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde star. Dayo Okeniyi (The Hunger Games) co-stars in what's been described as a meaty...

Remember the original 1981 "Endless Love" starring Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt? It was a cheesy flick about young love made popular by the sultry goodness song featuring Diana Ross and Lionel Richie.
Well, Universal Pictures decided to make a remake of the movie featuring Alex Pettyfer ("Magic Mike," "I Am Number Four") and Gabriella Wilde, both British. I suspect this new film will be more of the same but just newer! Whoa! Isn't that what Hollywood has been doing lately? Take a look at "Carrie" the remake for example!
Anyway, "Endless Love" will debut in theaters on Feb. 14, 2014 just in time for your Valentine's Day celebration!

The Valentine’s weekend is inevitably always a big favourite for romantic movies, especially romantic dramas, and after seeing Safe Haven soar in February this year, things are looking good for next year’s Endless Love remake.

The new trailer for Universal Pictures’ Endless Love remake sets up the classic story of rich girl meets boy from the wrong side of the tracks. Magic Mike’s Alex Pettyfer and newcomer Gabriella Wilde (who can be seen in the upcoming remake of Carrie) play the film’s star-crossed lovers obliviously caught up in a steamy coming-of-age romance.

Gabriella Wilde in Endless LovePhoto: Universal Pictures Universal seems to do this more than any other studio, earlier this year it was The Purge that popped up on the radar out of nowhere and now it's a remake of Endless Love, the 1981 romantic drama starring Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt, which, more than anything, is probably memorable for the Diana Ross and Lionel Richie title song, or the fact it was an early Tom Cruise feature. Either way, I'm not sure what kind of success I envision with Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike) and Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers) in the lead roles, but have at it Universal. Making things even more dicey, the film was written and directed by Shana Feste whose previous efforts include The Greatest and Country Strong, neither of which would I ever recommend anyone see. The story follows a privileged girl and a charismatic boy whose...

The crowd this is geared towards probably doesn't remember, but "Endless Love" is actually remake of the 1981 film starring Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt, that also served as an early launching pad for Tom Cruise. And so, what does this do-over bring to the table? Well, it has Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde in the leading roles, playing a young couple in love (awww) whose passion and romance threatens to be thwarted by their meddling parents (boo!). Shana Feste, of "Country Strong" fame, is directing this effort which merely has to avoid getting six Golden Raspberry Awards to bet the accomplishments of the original film. This movie clearly isn't for us, but perhaps someone reading is into this, right? And, naturally, "Endless Love" will open on Valentine's Day. Watch below.

Universal's remake of the 1981 teen romance, "Endless Love," has found its star-crossed lovers in Alex Pettyfer and Australian actress Gabriella Wilde. Variety announced the casting news on Thursday, after what was reportedly months of searching. Pettyfer co-starred with Channing Tatum in "Magic Mike," and played the lead in 2011's "I am Number Four," which was a box office disappointment. As for Wilde, she appeared in the 2011 reboot of "The Three Musketeers," and can be seen in the upcoming "Carrie" remake as nice girl Sue Snell. "Love" tells the story of an intense relationship between teenagers named David and Jade. The love affair turns dark after David becomes obsessive and goes to extreme measures to be close to the object of his affection. The roles were originally played by Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt. The movie helped turn Shields into a star, but the same can't be said for Hewitt. There's...

There's no indication that this will mirror of the 1981 film starring Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt, or the Scott Spencer 1979 book, reports Variety. Shana Feste directs from a script she rewrote from Josh Safran's screenplay, while Bluegrass Films' Scott Stuber and Pamela Abdy are producing alongside Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage from Fake Empire. Tracy Falco is serving as executive producer. Others who tried out for the starring roles included Brenton Thwaites, Sarah Bolger and Olivia Cooke.

It.s a frightening time for movies when .remakes of adaptations. garner just as many headlines as everything else. Such is the case with Universal.s Endless Love, a remake of the Franco Zeffirelli.s 1981 multi-Razzie Award nominee starring Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt, itself based on Scott Spencer.s popular novel of the same name, though many of the changes made for the film added melodramatic weirdness that Spencer never intended. Let.s hope it.s better to remake the bad stuff than the good. According to The Hollywood Reporter, five actresses are being flown out to Hollywood to read for the role of Jade, which Shields previously played, with director Shana Feste, writer-director of Country Strong and The Greatest. The names include Gabriella Wilde, from the recent Three Musketeers remake and the upcoming Carrie remake (Do you see a pattern here?); Sarah Bolger, from Once Upon a Time...

The massive, ambitious, on-again, off-again plan to adapt Stephen King’s multi-book series The Dark Tower may be on again within the next couple of weeks. Writer Akiva Goldsman is about to turn in a new draft for the proposed first installment of the project, which may encompass three films and two limited TV series. Javier Bardem is no longer under consideration for the key role of gunslinger Roland Deschain, however; Russell Crowe (above, in Robin Hood) may take the lead for director Ron Howard. [Deadline] Endless Love, the 1981 romantic drama that starred Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt, with Tom Cruise in a small role, is probably best remembered today for Lionel Richie’s theme song, performed with Diana Ross. So the news that Shana Feste (Country Strong) is in...

'Endless Love' Getting The Remake You've Been Waiting For From 'Country Strong' Director Shana Feste
Remember 1981’s “Endless Love” starring Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt (who he?) from Italian director Franco Zeffirelli? Well, this writer doesn’t, but that would be the case for any Brooke Shields film made before he was born. A lot of people just might remember it though, but not because of the romantic drama plot about a teenage couple whose love is continually thwarted by (as IMDb puts it) by “circumstance and accident.” So why might you remember it then? Well, there are two reasons. The first is the song’s theme – the Diana Ross and Lionel Richie song of the same name. The second is that it was the first appearance of a 19 year-old Tom Cruise on the big screen. By all accounts the film itself was a bit of a stinker, earning six Golden Raspberry Awards at the time, however "Endless Love" (or more likely the name and...

Universal Pictures and producer Scott Stuber are gearing up for a remake of Endless Love, the 1981 Franco Zefirelli-directed film about obsessive teenage love that starred Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt, and which launched the movie career of Tom Cruise in a small role. Shana Feste, who helmed Country Strong, is aboard to helm the new version, which seems like a good venue to break new talent. Question: in this period where Hollywood is in endless love with remakes, are they green lighting anything these days that is not a remake of a so-so movie from the 80s or even more recently? What really sucks is that I remember all these movies when they opened in their original forms. Maybe it’s a depressing sign of aging. Still, it seems like studios are going to well on these things faster and faster, as happened with Amazing Spider-Man and this weekend’s Total Recall.

The Warner Archive Collection is a manufacture-on-demand (Mod) DVD series that specializes in putting previously unreleased films on DVD for the first time. Recently they dug deep into their vast history of classic horror and selected some winners to resurrect.
The Warner Archive Collection can make a wide array of films available because they don't actually create the DVD until it is ordered by a customer. This way, they are not taking a chance of getting stuck with a large amount of inventory if a selected title doesn't sell. You'll certainly recognize some of the horror films the Warner Archive Collection has added to its library, but there are a couple of really obscure ones in there as well. Take a look at the list of what's been made available and plan your shopping list now.

Sherilyn Fenn, Richard Tyson, Two Moon Junction Zalman King Dies Pt.1: Mickey Rourke-Kim Basinger Sex Drama Nine 1/2 Weeks Though much of the media coverage on the film focused on the Sherilyn Fenn-Richard Tyson sex scenes and a full-frontal nude shot of Fenn, the most interesting aspect of Two Moon Junction was its highly eclectic cast, which included Oscar winners Louise Fletcher (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) and Burl Ives (The Big Country), Oscar nominee Juanita Moore (Imitation of Life), plus Little Darlings' Kristy McNichol, The Diary of Anne Frank's Millie Perkins, Fantasy Island's Hervé Villechaize, Endless Love's Martin Hewitt, TV star Don Galloway, and Milla Jovovich of the future Resident Alien movies. But despite the cast and the sex, Two Moon Junction bombed domestically, earning a paltry $1.54 million. Compared to Two Moon Junction, the $7 million-budgeted Wild Orchid (1990) was a megahit.

Prince Harry and his team are on route to the North Pole for Walking With The Wounded after delays due to bad weather. The team, including four injured soldiers, aim to be the first amputees to reach the North Pole unsupported and have set a goal to raise £2,000,000.

Captain Martin Hewitt, aged 29, said “getting really excited now and looking forward to getting on with the task at hand and walking to the North Pole”. The 26-year-old Prince added “all the...

Ah, the 1980s. Big hair, flashy clothes, and that new TV channel that only shows music videos. Exploitation films too were changing. Gone were the Excorsist- and Omen-inspired horror films of the 70s. Biker movies were passe. And socially relevant nurse and teacher dramas were being replaced by teen comedies and a new type of scary movie: the slasher film. In 1985, New World Pictures released Out Of Control, a somewhat strange combination of Lord Of The Flies and a John Hughes movie that is harder to classify. In some ways the perfect drive-in movie, Out Of Control contains violent action, teen romance, sex, nudity, and pop music. But there is an undercurrent of weirdness to the film that, intentional or not, implies some deeper meaning behind the exploitive aspects and makes it interesting to watch for its details. However, if you missed it at the drive-in...

If you have Netflix and are a horror fan in need of something to watch this Labor Day weekend, one look at this gargantuan list I compiled of the new terror titles Netflix has added for instant streaming in just the first three days of this month should keep you busy until Labor Day next year. You'll find something for everyone, from older titles to recent releases, famous to obscure, classic to not-so-classic, monsters to maniacs - you name it.
For the record, I considered compiling this list in alphabetical order or by year of the film's release, but then I realized I had already spent well over an hour just sorting through the massive catalogue of titles Netflix has now made available for instant streaming and realized Labor Day would be over by the time I finished arranging this list in any kind of order. Ready? Here you go.

Josh Schwartz, co-creator of hits like "The Oc," "Gossip Girl" and "Chuck," is planning to remake the 1981 classic "Endless Love." New York Magazine's Vulture could not reach Schwartz's reps for comment but they did check in with Scott Spencer, author of the best-selling novel on which the original film was based. At his New York home, Spencer noted that Schwartz had also been hired by MGM to remake the flop "Bright Lights, Big City." Spencer joked, saying "It almost seems as though Josh is trying to undo the mistakes of the early and mid-eighties." The original film helmed by Franco Zeffirelli was adapted by Judith Rascoe and starred Brooke Shields, Martin Hewitt, Shirley Knight and Don Murray. The film was made famous more for its title song by Lionel Ritchie and Diana Ross.
