Sofia Coppola's new film "Priscilla" is a biography of Priscilla Presley, based on her own 1985 book "Elvis & Me," which she wrote with Sandra Harmon. Cailee Spaeny plays Priscilla, while Jacob Elordi plays Elvis Presley, the rock star to whom she was married from 1967 to 1973. Infamously, the pair began dating when Priscilla was 14 years old and Elvis was 24. According to /Film's review of "Priscilla," written by Shae Sennett, Coppola is careful to both celebrate their romance while also criticizing Elvis' lascivious behavior. The film seems to look at the high-profile romance between Elvis and Priscilla with extreme ambivalence, incorporating both the exhilaration of dating a handsome rock star at age 14, while acknowledging the unsavory age gap between the two and the demands on Priscilla Presley to maintain a particular public image.

Originally published in 1986, Elvis and Me: The True Story of the Love Between Priscilla Presley and the King of Rock n’ Roll, proved popular enough to warrant being made into a four-hour television movie in 1988. Now, thirty-five years later, Sofia Coppola has written and directed a new adaptation – simply titled Priscilla – that not only breathes new life into Presley’s memoir, but also further solidifies Coppola as a director deserving of comparison to her more heralded father.
The film begins as a teenage Priscilla Beaulieu is introduced to Elvis Presley at a military-hosted party in Germany. From that moment, the couple enjoy a long courtship that culminates in a tempestuous marriage resulting in the birth of Lisa Marie Presley (Raine Monroe Boland/Emily Mitchell) and the couple’s ultimate separation.

Woo boy, here’s a new flick that’ll make the multiplex shake, rattle, and roll. Yes, it’s a brand-spankin’ new biopic centered around the king of rock and roll, the ruler of Graceland, the ….whoa, wait a minute! This is 2023, not 2022, Last Christmas we got a big-budget musical docudrama all about the man who was always “takin’ care of business” from Baz Luhrmann. Yes, and this is quite a different spin. For one thing, it’s from an indie studio with a more modest budget. There is a highly regarded director behind this, but rather than focusing on “E” or “the Colonel” it follows the path of the “Queen of the King”. As the title implies, this is the story of Priscilla.

Elvis Presley told us he “ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog,” but how piercing is his bite behind closed doors? Is “The King of Rock and Roll” a controlling, entitled tyrant behind the scenes? If anyone can say, it’s Priscilla Presley, the music icon’s ex-wife and Queen of Graceland. Today, Elevation Pictures is proud to present its Priscilla trailer, previewing Sofia Coppola’s stirring drama about the private lives of Elvis and Priscilla Presley.

Judging by A24’s second Priscilla trailer, Sofia Coppola’s take on the thrilling courtship and tumultuous marriage between Priscilla Beaulieu and Elvis Presley should not be confused with Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 Elvis biopic.
This second movie about rock and roll’s biggest superstar is told entirely from the perspective of Priscilla Presley, who had met Elvis in 1959 when she was 14 and he was 24. The first Priscilla trailer featured movie images almost entirely overlaid with the 1992 recording “How You Satisfy Me” by the Australian band Spectrum.
Now the second trailer, which dropped on Tuesday, aims to tell the true story of Priscilla’s journey from having a thrilling teenage crush to a turbulent marriage to Elvis in a role that earned Cailee Spaeny a best actress trophy in Venice, where Coppola’s biopic debuted.

Sofia Coppola’s latest film, “Priscilla” is the first to focus solely on the life of the queen of rock and roll legend, Elvis Presley. Now, audiences are getting their first look at Presley, played by “Euphoria” actor Jacob Elordi, in the first full trailer for the movie.
The film follows a teenage Priscilla (Cailee Spaeny) as she meets Elvis at the age of 14. The pair’s whirlwind romance culminates with their marriage and, as the trailer lays out, Priscilla’s struggles to maintain her own identity outside of being the King’s wife.
The aesthetic of the film is pure Coppola, with a lot of satins and pastel colors. Costume designer Stacey Battat’s outfits, particularly on Spaeny, are fantastic. If you’ve seen photos of the real Priscilla and Elvis, especially their wedding pictures, you’ll see the loving attention to detail.

Deadline reports that the release of Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla has been pushed back. The film, which tells the story of Elvis Presley through the eyes of Priscilla, was originally slated for a October 27th release, but will now be released on November 3rd.
Priscilla recently had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival where it received rave reviews. The film stars Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla and Jacob Elordi as Elvis. Although it was based on Elvis and Me by Priscilla Presley and Sandra Harmon, the movie doesn’t have the official approval or support of the Elvis Estate. While Priscilla praised Spaeny’s performance in the film, she told Hollywood Reporter that it was “very difficult to watch a film about you and about your life and about your love.”

Priscilla, one of the buzziest films heading into this year’s Venice Film Festival, finally had its world premiere in competition on the Lido, receiving a rapturous seven-minute 30-second standing ovation for its director Sofia Coppola, young leads and the inspiration herself, Priscilla Presley.
Thanks to an interim agreement arranged just days prior to the festival, alongside director Coppola, stars Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi were able to attend the premiere alongside Priscilla Presley. The biopic details her relationship with Elvis, whom she met as a 14-year-old.
During the standing ovation, the cast and Presley were seen holding back tears, overcome with the emotion of the event and the reception.
Earlier in the day at the film’s press conference, Presley admitted that watching the movie had been hard. “It’s very difficult to watch a film about you and about your life and about your love,” she said. “But Sofia did an amazing job.

For much of Priscilla, Sofia Coppola’s subdued but stirring repositioning of the Elvis myth from the perspective of the woman who spent 14 years as his girlfriend and wife, there’s a sense of an emotionally immature man regularly taking a doll out of its box to play romance or dress-up or even kink one night when they drop acid. But he remains determined always to return her to her original packaging, in this case that of an unworldly 9th grade schoolgirl.
The beauty of this probing study of a lonely private world in the glare of the public eye is that while it appears on the surface to show a protagonist without agency, manipulated and compartmentalized since her teens, the Priscilla Presley portrayed here with moving emotional transparency by Cailee Spaeny is a self-possessed woman always attuned to her needs, who emerges from intoxication to begin a long, painful...

Elvis has not quite left the building yet. Not long after Baz Luhrmann released his epic biopic about the King of Rock N Roll, Elvis, a more low-key release that focuses more on Priscilla Presley’s story announces its arrival with a new trailer from indie studio darling A24. This film, Priscilla, comes from Sofia Coppola, director of Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette and The Bling Ring, and daughter of prolific cinema auteur Francis Ford Coppola. While Austin Butler broke out in his respective role, Jacob Elordi plays the man, the myth, the legend, Elvis Presley this time around, while Cailee Spaeny occupies the titular role of Elvis’ wife.
The official synopsis reads,
“When teenage Priscilla Beaulieu meets Elvis Presley at a party, the man who is already a meteoric rock-and-roll superstar becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments: a thrilling crush, an ally in loneliness, a gentle best friend.
