Fresh from winning her BAFTA TV Award for Best Supporting Actress, Top Boy star Jasmine Jobson said she is not done with playing Jaq Lawrence.
Speaking at the winners’ press conference, Jaq told Deadline that she wanted to be part of a Top Boy spin-off series featuring her character.
“Netflix haven’t come to me. All I will say is: if Netflix are on it, I’m down [for it],” she said. “I was struggling to let go of Jaq, so if they want to bring it back, let’s do it, but it’s out of my hands.”
Jobson was overwhelmed by her BAFTA win, saying she spent time backstage crying after collecting her gong. It was a case of third time lucky after she was nominated for Top Boy in 2020 and 2023.

Guy Ritchie has been set to direct and executive produce the Paramount+ Ray Donovan series, ‘The Donovans.’
The forthcoming series, which is currently in development, has been described as a loose adaptation of the hit Showtime series that ran for seven seasons. The original show starred Liev Schreiber as a professional “fixer” who worked in Los Angeles, taking on high-profile clients and solving their problems using any means necessary. While the new series will draw inspiration from the original, it is expected to feature a fresh storyline and unique characters that will set it apart from its predecessor.
The spin-off description reads; With the most powerful clients in Europe, ‘The Donovans’ will see family fortunes and reputations at risk, odd alliances unfold, and betrayal around every corner; and while the family might be London’s most elite fixers today, the nature of their business means there is no guarantee what’s in store tomorrow.

Paramount+ has ordered Ray Donovan spin-off The Donovans, Top Boy creator Ronan Bennett will write the series with Guy Ritchie directing.
Over the past few years, Top Boy grew from a fairly niche Channel 4 shows into one of Britain’s biggest dramas, courtesy of a commission from Netflix after Channel 4 cancelled the show after its third series. The fifth ans final series aired last year.
Creator Ronan Bennett has now set his next project. The Donovans will expand on the world of Ray Donovan, the crime drama headlined by Liev Schreieber. It followed the titular character, a fixer who arranges bribes and payoffs for insalubrious individuals. The cast also included Jon Voight, Paula Malcomson, Dash Mihok and Eddie Marsan. It ran for 82 episodes over seven series from 2013 to 2020, which was followed by Ray Donovan: The Movie a television film broadcast in 2022.

Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish derided a planned streaming venture backed by Disney, Fox Corp. and Warner Bros. Discovery for having “only a subset of sports.”
In his first public comments since the announcement of the service, which does not include any Paramount or NBCUniversal properties, Bakish noted several gaps it will have.
“There’s still a lot we don’t know about this service, things like price, packaging, consumer appetite,” he said on Paramount’s fourth-quarter earnings call. “To the consumer point, for the true sports fan, this product only has a subset of sports. It’s missing half the NFL, a lot of college, has virtually no soccer or golf, etc. It’s hard to believe that’s ideal, especially at the price points that have been speculated.”

Paramount Global expects to take a $1 billion charge in the current quarter due to ongoing programming shifts and the layoffs it announced earlier this month.
CFO Naveen Chopra delivered that outlook during the company’s fourth quarter earnings call with Wall Street analysts. The company is “making a variety of important changes to our global workforce and content strategy,” he said. “These moves reflect decisions we’ve made to transition our business and enhance our future value proposition. They will also result in a programming and restructuring charge in Q1, which we currently expect to be approximately $1 billion.”
The company has been increasingly “optimizing and sharing” programming across streaming and linear TV, Chopra noted. “We’re also focused on using the collective power of Paramount Global to unlock synergies more broadly. This mindset enables headcount cost reduction, including the action we announced earlier this month.”

Paramount Global’s earnings in the fourth quarter edged Wall Street forecasts, but a double-digit slide in advertising dragged down total revenue by 6%.
Revenue came in at $7.6 billion, while earnings totaled 4 cents a share. Analysts had expected a loss of 1 cent per share, but revenue of $7.84 billion.
Linear TV advertising, which faced tough comparisons with the midterm-election-boosted 2022 frame, declined 15% to $2.28 billion. The dual strikes of 2023 also affected the pipeline at CBS and other networks, further squeezing ad sales.

The company said it is forecasting that its domestic streaming business will turn profitable by 2025. It also said 2022 was the peak of streaming losses, confirming management commentary in recent months. Revenue at Paramount+ shot up 69%, while subscriber levels climbed to 67.5 million, up 4.1 million from the previous quarter.

The Donovans, a new series inspired by the Showtime hit Ray Donovan, has been set at Paramount+, with Guy Ritchie attached to direct and executive produce. Renowned Irish screenwriter, producer, and novelist Ronan Bennett will write all ten episodes. “With the most powerful clients in Europe, The Donovans will see family fortunes and reputations at risk,” according to the network. “Odd alliances unfold, and betrayal around every corner; and while the family might be London’s most elite fixers today, the nature of their business means there is no guarantee what’s in store tomorrow. None of the cast and creatives behind Ray Donovan, which ended with a movie in 2022, are involved in The Donovans. As we prepare for the anticipated release of Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare in theaters on April 19, the Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels director is ready to return to television for a Ray Donovan spin-off series. Loosely based on the hit Showtime series starring Liev Schreiber, The Donovans extends the show’s “fixer” premise to an elite family unit.
Here’s the official description for The Donovans:
“With the most powerful clients in Europe, The Donovans will see family fortunes and reputations at risk, odd alliances unfold, and betrayal around every corner; and while the family might be London’s most elite fixers today, the nature of their business means there is no guarantee what’s in store tomorrow.”

It’s rare for a hit TV show to end quite as definitively as Top Boy. The London-set crime drama finished in September 2023 with a full stop instead of a comma. After five acclaimed series (two on its original Channel 4 home before cancellation and three after its Drake-assisted revival on Netflix) the series came to a close, and fans had to wave goodbye to the Summerhouse Estate.
But not for too long. Soon after the final series concluded, Top Boy creator Ronan Bennett published a tie-in novel Jaq: A Top Boy Story, which is out now in paperback. It’s the story of the Summerhouse gang as told from the perspective of one of its lieutenants who climbed the ranks all the way to a major confrontation with the gang leaders – Jaq, as played by Jasmine Jobson.

Top Boy creator Ronan Bennett is in talks with Netflix over a potential spin-off.
Speaking to the BBC’s Nihal Arthanayake in the past hour, Bennett said the spin-off would focus on the character of Jaq Lawrence, who is played by Jasmine Jobson.
He said he is in conversation with Netflix and production company Cowboy, and that EP Drake is on board.
“We are talking to Netflix about a spin-off, which will be around Jaq,” he said.
Bennett joked that Netflix will “probably be angry with me for mentioning it” and said “I’ve learned through bitter experience not to talk too much about shows that are in the future.”
“You just never know if they’re going to get made,” he added. “And in fact, most shows that are developed actually don’t get made. You can write the script and, for whatever reason, they don’t get made.

UK crew members feel they have been abandoned.
As the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike nears the 100-day mark, leading UK film and TV technicians and suppliers are continuing to speak out about the extreme financial hardship and uncertainty they and their colleagues are facing due to the hard production stop caused by the strike.
Although the WGA strike is now resolved, the UK industry remains in crisis mode. There is a working assumption that even if SAG-AFTRA struck a deal with Amtmp today, production would not restart in full in the UK until January, thanks to Thanksgiving and Christmas. Industry leaders...

The star of Netflix hit drama Top Boy, which is now airing its fifth and final series, says he would have preferred the show to have been written by a Black writer, rather than a white industry veteran.
Ashley Walters told The Times of London of the script penned by 67-year-old Irish novelist Ronan Bennett: “It would have been ideal for black people’s stories to have been told by a black person. So I did scrutinize Ronan. But understanding the people he consulted for the script was key.”
Walters added that he thinks, were the show to be made now in 2023, the focus on ‘lived experience’ would have made for a different outcome. “That may not be great for Ronan, but it’s huge for people like me,” he says. “I was one of the few Black actors allowed on TV before this wave of diversity, so seeing...

It’s still wild to think that we have Drake to thank for the revival of Top Boy, Ronan Bennett’s engrossing crime saga that draws to a close on September 7. Like so many of us, the Grammy-winning rapper got caught up in a show, only to find out it had been canceled — in this case, Channel 4 dropped Top Boy, which starred Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson, in 2014 after two four-episode seasons. But, unlike the vast majority of the TV-viewing public, Drake had the influence to set a revival in motion, bringing back many original cast members and drawing a slew of new talents like Micheal Ward and Simbiatu Ajikawo (aka Little Simz).

Warning: this article contains spoilers for the first four series of Top Boy
We head back to the Summerhouse Estate in East London for one final time with the release of much-loved crime thriller Top Boy‘s final season.
While Netflix refers to Top Boy: The Final Chapter as season three, die-hard fans know that this will technically be the fifth run of the show, as it originally began as a two-series Channel 4 drama back in 2011 before being cancelled before its time.
Thankfully, Netflix revived Top Boy in 2017 with the help of rapper Drake (aka Aubrey Graham), who remains the show’s Executive Producer, and the two original series are also on the streaming platform as Top Boy: Summerhouse.
Like those first two seasons, the three Netflix instalments centre on drug dealers Dushane and Sully, whose tumultuous on-and-off partnership has seen them face brutal rival gangs, perilous prison stints,...

Actor Michael Fassbender continues sitting on a screenplay, co-written with Ronan Bennett ("Public Enemies") adapting the story of 'Cú Chulainn', an Irish warrior of Celtic mythology:
The stories of Chulainn, dating back to the 7th Century were collected in "The Ulster Cycle", aka the "Red Branch Cycle", one of four great cycles of Irish mythology, containing heroic Irish legends and sagas.
'Cú Chulainn', aka 'The Hound of Ulster', was the son of the god 'Lug' and 'Deichtine', gaining his name after he killed a vicious guard-dog in self-defence, then offering to take its place until a replacement could be found.
At the age of seventeen he defended Ulster against the armies of queen 'Medb of Connacht' in the epic "Cattle Raid of Cooley".
He was known for his terrifying 'battle frenzy' or 'ríastrad', in which he became an unrecognizable terror, while fighting from his chariot.

There’s a crunchy veracity to the script for this evocative story of two men on opposing sides of the Northern Ireland conflict
The recent 25th anniversary of the Good Friday agreement underscored how much the Troubles, and those many years of bloodshed, have receded into historical memory. With the wounds less raw, it’s easier to mine the period for drama spiked with high-stakes violence and leavened with moral conundrums about justice, loyalty and political expediency. Belfast-born novelist and screenwriter Ronan Bennett is just the right man to map out this terrain. It’s not just his having roots in the region that helps, but also his longtime involvement in British crime drama, from Face back in 1997 through TV series Top Boy, to historical mini-series Gunpowder about the Guy Fawkes plot.

After giving everyone a case of the chills because of his performance as Charlie Cullen in The Good Nurse, Eddie Redmayne is ready to kill again. Redmayne will star in The Day of the Jackal series, a new project destined for Peacock and Sky. The concept is a reimagining of the 1973 film adaptation from Universal Pictures. In The Day of the Jackal, Redmayne plays the Jackal, a professional assassin hired by a French paramilitary dissident to kill French President Charles de Gaulle in 1962.
Inspired by Frederick Forsyth’s novel of the same name (and Universal’s film adaptation), the new version brings the character and story to a contemporary setting, letting our corrupt geo-political landscape loose in a world of deception, lies, cover-ups, and death. In addition to telling an intriguing tale of careful murder, The Day of the Jackal series will meditate on the concept of an anti-hero.

In a story likely to be repeated numerous times as his star continues its upward trajectory, when he first met his agent, a 19-year-old Micheal Ward was asked what sort of project he’d love to be a part of if it was possible.
“Something like Top Boy,” he said, referring to Ronan Bennett’s cult crime series — about rival drug gangs battling for domination in a deprived London neighborhood — that was abruptly canceled by British network Channel 4 in 2014 after two seasons.
It might as well have been a prophecy. Just a year on, Ward would be preparing not just to join Drake’s grand revival of the show on Netflix, but to play Jamie, the new top boy himself, igniting a dramatic ascent that would soon see some of the biggest names in the business drawn to the magnetic charm, confidence...

After acquiring the streaming rights to the recent "Halloween" movies, the ongoing "Chucky" franchise, and even a "Friday the 13th" prequel series (yes, which means you can start placing your bets on when exactly we'll receive a crossover extravaganza), Peacock continues to make some pretty significant moves.
Variety reports that UK broadcaster Sky Studios and the Peacock streaming service have joined forces to create a series based on the 1971 political thriller novel "The Day of the Jackal," written by author Frederick Forsyth, and its classic 1973 big-screen adaptation of the same name, directed by Fred Zinnemann. Set in 1963 during the pivotal moment in history when French president Charles de Gaulle granted neighboring Algeria its independence, the fictional story follows a ruthless assassin who goes by the codename of "Jackal" who is recruited by the far-right Organisation de L'Armée Secrète (Oas) to take out de Gaulle in retaliation. A TV series adaptation of Frederick Forsyth’s thriller novel “The Day of the Jackal” has been ordered by Peacock and Sky, it was announced Thursday.
First published in 1971, the original “The Day of the Jackal” novel is set in 1963, the year the president of France, Charles de Gaulle, granted Algeria its independence. The move resulted in several assassination attempts on his life, mostly from the far-right Organisation de L’Armée Secrète (Oas). The novel focuses on a fictional Oas plot to kill de Gaulle via a mysterious foreign assassin with the codename “The Jackal.” Meanwhile, the French government gets wind of the plot and hires Deputy Commissioner Claude Lebel to find and capture the assassin. The novel was well received upon publication, and Forsyth received an Edgar Award for Best Novel from the Mystery Writers of America in 1972.
