Aadyam Theatre presents its latest production, ‘As Bees In Honey Drown’, an adaptation of Douglas Carter Beane’s award-winning theatre play – a hilarious and thought-provoking satire on contemporary culture. Adapted by Akarsh Khurrana and directed by Anahita Uberoi, the play promises to tickle your funny bone while exploring themes of deceit, betrayal, artistic ambition and the power of illusion.
Almost famous author Dhruv captures the attention of Alexa, a popular socialist who has made the world of celebrity her home. While she claims to be a music record producer, what is clear is that she wants Dhruv to write the screenplay of her life story. “Just spend time with me,” she says, “and you’ll learn all you need to know.” To Dhruv, her outsized persona is thrillingly alluring.
Director Anahita Uberoi delivers this clever and witty production that lampoons our society’s obsession with fame and triumph, and does so with humour and wit.

Whoopi Goldberg won’t be falling back into the old habit after all: The View moderator has canceled plans to appear in an upcoming London revival of Sister Act The Musical due to the production’s pandemic-caused postponement.
Goldberg, who is also a producer of the musical, had been set to reprise her Deloris Van Cartier role from the 1992 film, costarring opposite Absolutely Fabulous‘ Jennifer Saunders as Mother Superior.
In a statement posted today on the show’s website, producers Goldberg and Jamie Wilson attribute the decision to “ongoing government restrictions resulting in a further delay to the production.” The musical had been set to begin performances at London’s Eventim Apollo this July, but the opening has been pushed back a year to July 2022.
“This necessary change of dates now means that Whoopi Goldberg will no longer be able to appear in the role of Deloris Van Cartier,” the statement continues.

Douglas Carter Beane sure knows how to write for his stars. In 1997, As Bees in Honey Drown perfectly showcased the talents of J. Smith-Cameron, just as, more recently, The Little Dog Laughed did for Julie White and The Nance did for Nathan Lane. Now, in Shows for Days, a kind of companion piece to The Nance and likewise produced by Lincoln Center Theater, he’s written not merely a vehicle for Patti LuPone but a glossy and curve-hugging Ferrari of a comedy, built as if to the star’s spec sheet. LuPone plays Irene Sampson Keller, the theatrical empress of Reading, Pennsylvania, circa 1973: “stuck here among the Amish trying to put on Ionesco.” She is sarcastic, idealistic, overdramatic, and aphoristic, the kind of small-town diva prone to wearing Pucci caftans, giving multiple curtain speeches, and faking strokes to drum up excitement. “Sometimes when Irene looks really far down she...

Now playing at a cinema near you, recorded earlier this year, is the 2013 Tony award winning Lincoln Center production of Douglas Carter Beane’s “The Nance” starring Nathan Lane, Johnny Orsini, Cady Huffman, ad Lewis J Stadlen. It is set in the not-so happy days of the mid 1930′s in New York City. Late one evening at an automat (a kind of vending machine/cafeteria), a dapper, well-dressed man (Lane) strikes up a conversation with a shabbily-dressed younger man (Orsini). Being carefully discreet, the older man buys the other a sandwich and instructs him where to meet outside. It seems the place and its clientele are the target of the police vice squad looking to bust homosexuals. The next morning at the older man’s run-down, but cozy apartment, the young man doesn’t wish to dash away. It seems that the younger man, who we learn is named Ned,...

A spokeswoman for The Nance says star Nathan Lane will return to the Broadway play Thursday after injuring his leg during Wednesday’s performance.
Lane was unable to finish Wednesday night after the Tony Award-winner’s leg was injured by the play’s revolving set. Two and a half hours before he was due to go on Thursday, the spokeswoman said he would be back.
In Douglas Carter Beane’s play, Lane plays a “nance” — a show business term for a stereotypically camp homosexual man — who is struggling both with his own identity and frustration at society’s hypocrisy toward homosexuality.
