Cobra Kai’s highly anticipated final season will have a different release date schedule this year as Netflix has planned to give it three separate dates. Yes, fans will have to wait a little longer for every batch of episodes.

The final season of Cobra Kai will be less bingeable than usual. That’s because Netflix is splitting the supersized season six across three release dates.
On Thursday, the streamer released a teaser trailer (below), along with its release strategy for the popular family drama series.
The 15-episode final season will drop Part 1 on July 18, then hold Part 2 until Nov. 28. A third part, dubbed “The Finale Event,” won’t be released until sometime in 2025.
The official description: “Picking up with Cobra Kai eliminated from the Valley, our senseis and students must decide if and how they will compete in the Sekai Taikai — the world championships of karate.”
Creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg have previously called the decision to end the series “bittersweet” but one that lets them bring Cobra Kai to a close the way they want.

Renowned cult classics have undoubtedly provided us with several mentor-like figures, but among all, Pat Morita’s Mr. Miyagi from The Karate Kid remains the most beloved one. But what if we say that the actor was initially turned down for the role of karate guru by the film’s producer Jerry Weintraub?
Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid
While Pat Morita being unwanted sounds totally shocking, here’s another bizarre titbit from Ralph Macchio’s The Karate Kid. According to director John G. The Karate Kid, a 1984 classic film, has remained a cornerstone of pop culture for nearly 40 years. The coming-of-age story follows Daniel Larusso, a young boy bullied by a vicious karate gang, who seeks guidance from an unlikely mentor – Mr. Miyagi, the gentle apartment maintenance man.
Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio in a still from The Karate Kid series
The story of Mr. Miyagi is deeply tragic. He was an immigrant who fought in World War II, and his wife and child died due to problems during childbirth in an American internment camp. However, the casting of Pat Morita, the actor who brought Mr. Miyagi to life, almost never happened due to a surprising reason.

Shelley Hennig, Nick Zano, Alyson Gorske, C. Thomas Howell, Eugene Kim, Paola Lázaro and Amalia Yoo star.
Hurwitz, Schlossberg and Heald executive produced “Obliterated” with Dina Hillier from Counterbalance Entertainment. Sony Pictures Television is the studio.
The news comes as Hurwitz and Heald recently teased that he and the team were back at work on the sixth and final season of “Cobra Kai.

Wolfgang Puck’s now-iconic Chinois on Main, which pioneered what came to be known as Asian fusion or Pacific Rim cuisine, has turned 40 this year. An entertainment industry haven since the day it opened in Santa Monica at the address of a former New Wave punk club, it’s since gone from radical to old guard. The restaurant’s starry clientele has ranged from Tom Selleck and Mike Ovitz to Gwyneth Paltrow and Frank Gehry (who is now designing Puck’s planned replacement of the oceanfront Gladstone’s restaurant along Pch).

What do writers do when they can’t write? It’s an exasperating question, since some write anyway – even in risky ways.
The risky activities of one strike-bound writer deserve note because he’s a “ghost” who is breaking a prime rule of his “ghosting” fraternity: He’s openly talking about the secrets of his trade.
Ghostwriting can be both rewarding and punishing. Ghosted books are not specifically outlawed by guilds during times of discord, but ghosts know that much of what they write has another problem: It is factually false. Or at least distorted.
All this is colorfully acknowledged by J.R. Moehringer, who is a serial ghost. His newest effort, Spare, about Prince Harry — it was written before the writers strike — adorns the bestseller list amid passionately challenging reviews.
Far from hiding from the controversy, Moehringer has written an article for The New Yorker describing his fights with his...

The star-studded Ocean’s Eleven cast could’ve looked a little different.
George Clooney recently confirmed reports that both Mark Wahlberg and Johnny Depp were approached to play Linus in the first installment of Steven Soderbergh’s now-iconic franchise. The role eventually went to Matt Damon.
The film’s A-list cast also included Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Andy Garcia and Don Cheadle, among others, with producer Jerry Weintraub and a great script to help them assemble their team. Nonetheless, they ran into some roadblocks.
“Steven had just done Erin Brockovich and Traffic, and he was nominated for directing both films,” Clooney said during an Ocean’s Eleven panel at the 2023 TCM Film Festival. “So, people really wanted to work with Steven.”
“That said, some people did say no to us,” Soderbergh chimed in. “They did,” Clooney replied. “Some very famous people told us to fuck right off. Mark Wahlberg, Johnny Depp.

Behind the camera, the film was entirely made possible by a chorus of women, many of whom are nominated. Netflix has picked up a sixth season of Cobra Kai — which will also be its last.
The streamer made the announcement Friday with a video that teases what it calls “the biggest … baddest” season of the series. A premiere date hasn’t been set; the video (watch it below) only says “coming soon.”
Creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg call the decision to end the series “bittersweet” but one that lets them bring Cobra Kai to a close the way they want.

When an actor does such a good job at playing their role, it's hard to imagine anyone else taking their place — a testament to the casting director's final call. But it doesn't always mean that they were originally the first (or even third) choice for the role. Sometimes, the best option isn't so obvious.
Such was the case when Delphi II Productions began the process of casting Mr. Miyagi for "The Karate Kid." As the movie's star Ralph Macchio shared in his recent memoir, "Waxing On: The Karate Kid and Me" (which /Film's Jenna Busch spoke to the actor about), most of the team was doubtful about the late Pat Morita's ability to play Mr. Miyagi since the relatively serious character was a big change from his previous comical roles:
"The focus was on the dramatic side of the character. Finding an actor of range and depth who would be authentic.

Ralph Macchio ducked into New York’s Baronet and Coronet Theatre for a sneak preview of Karate Kid on May 19, 1984. Though he played the title character in the John G. Avildsen film, Macchio made it to his seat “fairly unnoticed except for a few random audience members” who recognized him from his work in Francis Ford Coppola’s recent film The Outsiders.
By the time the movie ended and the last credit had rolled across the screen, anonymity essentially evaporated for Macchio, who, nearly forty years later, is still best known as Daniel Larusso, a character close to his heart and one that has found new generations of fans thanks to the resurgence of Cobra Kai on Netflix.

Looks as though the record for priciest California home sale ever has been broken yet again, this time by a giant compound in Malibu. At $177 million, the sold price eclipses the previous record — set last year by Jeff Bezos in Beverly Hills — by $12 million. Apparel mogul Serge Azria and his wife, Florence, were the lucky sellers, while the buyers were Silicon Valley-based venture capitalist Marc Andreessen and his wife, Laura Arrillaga, who’s hugely rich in her own right as the only daughter of multibillionaire real estate developer John Arrillaga. The off-market deal was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.
Unfathomable though the price may be, this property is loaded with amenities that could make the $177 million figure seem almost worth it to some folks — or at least remotely palatable. For one thing, the blufftop property is located directly above Paradise Cove, perhaps the most gorgeous beach in all of Malibu.

The globe-trotting chess adventures of Beth Harmon still aren’t likely to continue despite Netflix’s most-watched limited series (at 62M worldwide) earning not only two Golden Globe nominations today but an Adapted Long Form WGA nomination for Scott Frank’s scripts.
“It’s wonderful to know that people loved the show where they want to spend more time with these characters; we never envisioned it that way,” says The Queen’s Gambit EP William Horberg. “We felt that the series had a satisfying endpoint and we’d allow the audience to fill in the space as to what happens next for Beth Harmon. Nothing has changed, despite fans demanding more on my Twitter feed. Scott and I feel really happy about the completeness of Beth’s story.”
At the Globes, Queen’s Gambit received a nom in the Limited Series category and for Anya Taylor-Joy in the Best Actress Limited Series slot.

Nancy Lesser, HBO’s long-serving head of entertainment PR and talent relations, is leaving the TV powerhouse that she helped build as the steward of campaigns for “The Sopranos,” “Game of Thrones,” “Angels in America” and many other indelible programs.
For industryites, Lesser has become synonymous with HBO, given her wide-ranging role at the company. Lesser confirmed her resignation to HBO staffers on Wednesday. She is the latest senior executive to depart HBO following the management shakeup in March, when Bob Greenblatt was named WarnerMedia Entertainment chairman, prompting the exit of longtime HBO CEO Richard Plepler.
“HBO has been a truly wonderful home for me for the last 35 years,” Lesser said in a statement. “I have had the distinct privilege of overseeing the most creative, dedicated and smartest communications team in television. Additionally, I have been extremely fortunate to be involved with some of the most groundbreaking and relevant programming...

Gary LeMel, a longtime president of music at Warner Bros. Pictures whom the Los Angeles Times once called “the father of the compilation soundtrack album,” died July 6 after a battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 80.
Film agent Richard Kraft called him “a true giant in the film music industry.” Songwriters Hall of Fame member Steve Dorff described LeMel as “an amazing music man (and) a true friend who made an indelible contribution to my career.” Tom Sturges, a former top exec at Universal Music and other publishing companies, called him “one of the great music execs in the film business, ever. He treated me with the greatest respect at every meeting, took every call and listened to every song and artist I pitched him. Truly one of a kind.”
LeMel’s wife of almost 47 years, Maddy LeMel, a visual artist, told Variety she was staggered by the amount of testimonials coming in.

As fanciful as Martin Scorsese’s new film about Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue of 1975 is, it doesn’t aim to turn truth into myth nearly as much as the infamous movie Dylan himself made during that period, “Renaldo and Clara” — in which the cast list had Ronee Blakley playing “Mrs. Dylan.” Whatever impish reasons he might have had for doing that, it was undoubtedly a sign of the affection Dylan had for Blakley, who’d come right off a promotional tour for Robert Altman’s “Nashville” onto his tour, with a quick stop to record his single “Hurricane.”
Blakley appears in archival footage and fresh interviews in the Netflix film “Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese,” and she can also be heard singing with Dylan throughout the new 14-cd boxed set “Rolling Thunder: The 1975 Live Recordings.” She’s also known for her solo albums...

“It’s a karate soap opera,” says Ralph Macchio, accurately describing Cobra Kai, the YouTube premium show that revives the Karate Kid universe, with a few twists. Middle-aged Daniel Larusso is a dad and a car-dealership owner who’s also doing his best to become a Miyagi-style sensei to a new generation of would-be crane-kickers. With a second season debuting April 24th, Macchio discussed the show, the original movie, dealing with Eighties fame, the glories of Crossroads and more.
Seeing a recreation of Mr. Miyagi’s house on the show was unexpectedly moving.

Here’s a real kick in the head: It’s been 35 years since Columbia Studios released The Karate Kid. Fathom Events is marking the anniversary by bringing the 1984 classic back to the big screen Sunday and this Tuesday at more than 600 theaters nationwide. The special screenings are more than memory-lane matinees, they will be accompanied by a Season 2 preview of Cobra Kai, the acclaimed YouTube hit series (50 million views) that rekindles the Reagan Era rivalry between Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and pulls a second generation into the All Valley Championships grudge match.
The Cobra Kai success has been a pleasant surprise for Macchio, now 57, but then again role of Daniel Larusso has never really faded from his day-to-day life. Asked, for instance, how often fans approach him and reenact Larusso’s fighting stance — the loose-limbed, one-legged “crane kick” pose — Macchio estimated that it might be...

In January, the Palm Springs Intl. Film Festival will celebrate its 30th birthday. It’s a celebration that came very close to never happening.
Founded by then-mayor of Palm Springs Sonny Bono in 1989, the festival was launched the following year to boost post-holiday business and help put the desert enclave on the map as a tourism destination year-round. Bono persuaded a few of his Hollywood friends to drive a hundred-plus miles to the desert with their films in order to receive free press shortly before the Academy Awards ceremony.
With the help of American Airlines, Wells Fargo Bank and key members of the local community including businessman Harold Matzner, the inaugural Palm Springs Intl. Film Festival kicked off in January 1990.
“Sonny had a loyal cadre of people who helped him bring the festival to life,” says Matzner, who also remembers Bono’s naysayers, including Jerry Weintraub. “Jerry thought Sonny was...

Although he was never a Hollywood favorite during his tenure, President George H.W. Bush did have many memorable moments captured on video, ranging from news sound bytes to political gaffes to parodies of his tenure.
The latter were particularly evident via Saturday Night Live, which did 22 sketches on the president.
Most of those involved comedian Dana Carvey, who did an impressive imitation of Bush 41’s speech and mannerisms. President Bush was a good sport about it, actually appearing with Carvey and later inviting him to the White House. The two became surprisingly fast friends, as Carvey attests in the video above.
But President H.W. Bush also will be remembered for several other moments that captivated world attention, some of them statements that came back to haunt him, some of them eminently human foibles, others harsh Hollywood takes on his political maneuvers.
