The acquisition of Lucasfilm by Disney in 2012, along with the revelation of a 2015 release date for ‘Star Wars Episode 7,’ created a global sensation. Despite George Lucas’s prior assertions that he had no intention of creating a sequel trilogy, Disney’s acquisition resulted in the announcement of three new Star Wars films.
This development generated a mix of excitement and uncertainty among fans, who were eager to see Disney’s vision for the Star Wars universe. With Disney’s considerable resources now supporting the franchise, many were intrigued by the specifics of the deal that facilitated these new projects.
Following Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm and the Star Wars rights, George Lucas expressed confidence in Disney’s capacity to uphold the franchise’s legacy, believing Disney was the sole entity capable of ensuring its future. Fast forward 12 years, Disney has substantially expanded the Star Wars universe, introducing new lore and concepts while altering various elements.

After 27 years, 26 seasons, and 325 episodes of television, South Park could be forgiven for wanting to try something new. So that’s exactly what creators, showrunners, and stars Trey Parker and Matt Stone are doing with their crass, yet beloved animated franchise.
When the duo reached a $900 million deal with MTV Entertainment Studios to produce new episodes of South Park through season 30, they also locked themselves in to creating 14 South Park movies for streaming service Paramount+. The first of these near feature-length specials, “South Park: Post Covid: The Return of Covid” premiered at the end of 2021 and has since been followed by many more.
Of course, South Park has never been afraid of extended running times. Recent seasons have experimented with serialization and the series even received its own theatrically-released film with South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut in 1999. The Hollywood Commission, led by Anita Hill, Kathleen Kennedy and Nina Shaw, on Thursday announced the launch of MyConnext, a secure, all-in-one online tool, resource center, and reporting system for entertainment industry workers exploring their options when confronting harassment, bullying, or any type of workplace abuse.
An independent nonprofit corporation with its own management committee, MyConnext offers workers the opportunity to create a timestamped personal record of their experience, ask questions about policies, procedures, and how to report through a safe and anonymous messaging function, and securely report workplace misconduct — anonymously, if they so choose. Through its “hold for match” function, the platform allows workers to submit an anonymous report that is held securely, pending a second report by another user. When another person submits a report against the same individual – making a “match” – both reports are released to the users’ designated organization.

Four years ago, the Hollywood Commission, chaired by Anita Hill, launched a survey to entertainment workers on their experience with sexual harassment and power abuses in the industry. The questionnaire also asked about the tools they desired to fix it. The results overwhelmingly showed that workers want to understand how to report abuses — a centralized hotline would be good — as well as have access to technology that could create a timestamped-record of their reporting.
Today, that platform is finally available.
The Hollywood Commission has built and launched MyConnext, an independent reporting tool and online resource for entertainment workers to address harassment, discrimination, bullying, or other forms of abuse. The platform is designed to be secure and offer resources, a reporting infrastructure, and even provide individual advisers to guide victims through the process. It also offers what’s called the Ombuds Office, humans who can address specific questions and concerns through a messaging feature.

Actor Lee Jung-jae will attend the Monte-Carlo Television Festival next month for the French press launch of Lucasfilm’s latest live-action series “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” which streams on Disney+. In the show, Lee plays a Jedi Master.
It was his role in the globally successful Netflix series “Squid Game” that first catapulted Lee’s career to an international level. Starring as Seong Gi-hun (No. 456), a financially struggling father who participates in a deadly survival game, his performance earned him the Emmy Award for best actor in a drama series, a first for a non-English speaking actor.
This tremendous success significantly elevated the career of Lee, who is now considered by many as the international standard-bearer for a highly creative and avant-garde Korean culture.
In “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” an investigation into a series of shocking crimes pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee) against a dangerous warrior from his past.

"Before the Empire, before the Menace, there was The Acolyte."
We're now just two weeks away from the premiere of the latest Disney+ live-action Star Wars series, and Lucasfilm has debuted an exciting first clip from the show along with a new TV spot.
In the extended sneak peek, we find Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) engaged in fierce combat with Mae (Amandla Stenberg), his former apprentice.
Or at least, who he believes to be his former apprentice!
Possible spoilers follow.
Based on what we can gather from recent leaks and the character name subtitle in last week's TV spot, this is not actually Mae at all, but her sister. Rumor has it that Stenberg is playing a dual role as a pair of twins, one good and one evil (the titular Acolyte), with the former blamed for her sibling's sinister actions.

Daisy Ridley still hasn't seen the finished script for her new 'Star Wars' movie. The 32-year-old actress is reprising her role as Rey in a new film set to follow her rebuilding the Jedi Order after defeating Emperor Palpatine in 2019's 'The Rise of Skywalker', but she is yet to read final draft.Asked if she'd seen a copy, she told Collider: "That has not changed yet - but it is imminently about to change."When it comes to stepping back into the character of Rey, Ridley admitted there were some challenges despite the familiarity of the role. She explained: "So this one feels the same because I'm playing a character I’ve played before, but it's different because it's been many years."I would hope I'm coming back as a richer artist, but also I'm in different hands, so that's interesting and new."A different story. A lot of footage has been released from The Acolyte recently, but Disney and Lucasfilm may have dropped a major spoiler for the next Star Wars TV series.
Speculation has been running rampant for a while now about Amandla Stenberg potentially playing two characters in the show, and it looks like she will indeed be portraying twins. The theory stems from the fact recent previews have shown Mae sporting different clothing and what seems to be a contrasting personality in those scenes.
As we first reported on SFFGazette.com, the subtitles for The Acolyte's latest TV spot have confirmed Stenberg isn't Mae in those scenes, she's "Osha." Disney moved quickly to remove the spoiler, though the Loth-cat is very much out of the bag at this stage.

With Star Wars: The Acolyte just a couple of weeks away, another new TV spot is doing the rounds on social media which showcases Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh's Lightwhip.
As we first explained on SFFGazette.com, it's been established that Lightwhips are a heavily modified lightsaber variant with multiple plasma blades in flexible containment shields. Due to the blades' flexibility, they require more care to use than a regular lightsaber and have less cutting power.
With a history dating back to the "Sith Wars," Lightwhips were particularly associated with the Nightsisters of Dathomir, though Jedi have been known to use them as well. High Republic Era Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh is among them and was able to modify her lightsaber to have an additional whip mode after learning the design in a Force vision.

There are several Star Wars projects in the works right now. One is a new film by Mangold set thousands of years in the past, and another is a project by Waititi that he claims will upset fans. Somewhere in between is a new Rey movie called “Star Wars: Episode X,” tentatively titled “New Jedi Order,” which is closely tied to its storyline.
Announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023, this new movie focuses on Rey’s journey after “The Rise of Skywalker.” Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, it follows Rey as she tries to rebuild the Jedi Order. Originally, Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were supposed to write it, but Steven Knight took over. The story is set 15 years after “Rise of Skywalker,” exploring the galaxy after the war and the fall of the First Order, with the Jedi facing challenges. Star Wars has quite a list of projects in the works currently, from Mangold’s new Star Wars film that takes place thousands of years in the past to Waititi’s undisclosed project that he claimed “will piss off the fans.’ Somewhere in the middle of this is a new Rey movie ‘Star Wars: Episode X’ with the current working title ‘New Jedi Order,’ which is rather connected to what the movie is supposed to be about.

In the Star Wars universe, the lightsaber is an iconic part of the series as the weapon is not merely a tool used in the battle between a Sith and a Jedi. The glowing blade with striking colors like green, blue, purple, and red, captures the attention of the audience and the distinctive sound adds to its popularity.

However, it looks like The Acolyte is going to make a change as they introduce a Lightsaber Whip, which has divided its fanbase. Heated debates have been taking place all over the internet on how adding it would ruin the franchise’s popularity. Though new additions to the franchise have always been accepted by its fans, even they think that the addition of this bizarre weapon is a bit too ridiculous.

Star Wars: The Acolyte continues to intrigue and divide fans in equal measure. Despite that latter point, it looks set to be be a crucial chapter in the story of how the Sith returned to prominence before The Phantom Menace.

Do you remember the “Willow” show on Disney+? You might not, as it was released and then removed from the service within six months of its release. The show was meant to be a sequel to the 1988 film “Willow,” starring Warwick Davis, but now it’s just gone.
It seems that Disney may have pulled it over the cost of the series and the lack of viewership.
The show cost $156.8 million, which is about $19.6 million per episode! $53 million was spent on the London office of Industrial Light and Magic (Ilm).
Early reports estimated the total to be closer to $100 – $105 million. That is true, but only if you don’t count the money spent at Ilm.
In a new Forbes report, Caroline Reid describes how the show was partially shot in the UK to get some financial credit from their government. However, the film was filed under a shell company called Barking Lion Productions.

On May 4th, as part of the 2024 Podathan charity streaming event benefiting the Make-a-Wish Foundation, members of Lucasfilm's "Star Wars" story team Pablo Hidalgo and Matt Martin spoke to the hosts of the Full of Sith podcast. The show has been producing almost weekly episodes since 2013 and has covered plenty of "Star Wars" news, and Hidalgo and Martin, among others, have been frequent guests on the podcast over the years.
Hidalgo spoke to my co-host Holly Frey ("Stuff You Missed in History Class") in a wide-ranging interview about his work with Lucasfilm and on "Star Wars". As someone who is intimately involved with the storytelling process at Lucasfilm, Hidalgo elaborated on how that works and what he really does. He's been working at Lucasfilm for over 20 years and was on set for most of the prequels and was even in charge of the revolutionary web-cam that was on set for "Attack of the Clones.

In this new ongoing series, a revival of our old C’Mon Hollywood op-eds, we will examine the current political climate surrounding all things “woke” when it comes to the cinematic arts. Are Hollywood studios pushing an agenda or is this idea overblown? Is this creating a division among us peasants? Is it even possible to critique or watch a film without politics coming into play anymore?
Our hot shot team of dedicated researchers may have found out that things might not be so black and white… Pun intended? Who knows anymore?! It is an exciting and scary time to be making and watching movies but that type of chaotic environment allows this medium to experiment and grow. Controversy can always inspire conversation and that’s what we are hoping to do with this new show.
So what’s all the fuss about?

In space no one can hear you scream — but back here on terra firma they certainly can. And sci-fi fans will be doing just that with the news that Alien queen Sigourney Weaver is reportedly heading for a galaxy far, far away. Yes, as first reported by The InSneider and then confirmed by THR and Variety, the xenomorph busting genre legend is in talks to join Jon Favreau’s hotly anticipated upcoming Star Wars movie The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Expected to shoot this June in California, the MandoVerse movie — eyeing a 2026 release — is set to become Star Wars’ first big screen outing since 2019’s The Rise Of Skywalker. Favreau has written and will direct the film, on which he’ll also serve as producer alongside usual suspects Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni. The next live-action Disney+ Star Wars series, The Acolyte, is set to premiere on June 5, and Lucasfilm has now released two new teasers, one of which might confirm (or at least hint at) a recent rumor that's been doing the rounds.
Possible spoilers follow.
The first promo once again sees Master Sol vow to track down his wayward apprentice, Mae, who has seemingly fallen to the Dark Side and become the titular acolyte (which she is referred to as for the first time here). We then see Mae confronted at the edge of a snowy cliff, where she professes her innocence: "I didn't do it... believe me!"
If she is being sincere here, it might just confirm a persistent rumor that actress Amandla Stenberg will actually play a dual role as twins, which means Mae could have an evil sister out there taking down Jedi and framing her sibling for the murders.

This wouldn’t be Sigourney Weaver’s first time in space, but it would be her introduction into a galaxy far, far away! The famed Alien, Galaxy Quest and Ghostbusters actress is currently in talks to join Jon Favreau’s big-screen adventures of The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Deadline is reporting that Weaver is considering a “key role” in the theatrical debut of the Disney+ characters. She’s undoubtedly a commanding presence, even when her screen time is limited to a guest appearance. But how will she fit into the Star Wars universe?
The woman who made Ellen Ripley a legendary character could easily be some Mandalorian matriarch. Or she could be a ruthless Imperial commander or Moff. Maybe even another one of those Jedi who escaped Order 66?

Sigourney Weaver is in talks to star in the upcoming Star Wars film, The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Word of Weaver’s involvement became public on Friday, first reported by The InSneider newsletter. Currently, her role and its scope are unknown, but given Weaver’s track record for starring in sci-fi hits, the casting feels appropriate.
The Mandalorian & Grogu was first announced this past January, and will see Pedro Pascal reprise the titular role that he originated with the 2019 Disney+ series The Mandalorian. N0w, making the jump to the big screen, the film will expand upon the show’s universe (which also spurred the spinoff series Ahsoka).
Jon Favreau, creator of The Mandalorian, will return to direct the film, which also marks the first feature-length Star Wars release since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni will produce, as will Favreau.

"Alien" star Sigourney Weaver is headed back to space, but this time, instead of fighting off aliens, she could be befriending them. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Weaver is in talks to take on a role in "The Mandalorian & Grogu," the upcoming "Star Wars" film that will be directed by Jon Favreau.
While "Star Wars" has been pretty prolific on the small screen in recent years, the saga created by George Lucas hasn't actually released a new feature film since 2019's "The Rise of Skywalker." "The Mandalorian & Grogu" was officially announced in January of this year, after years of media focus spent on other potential Lucasfilm works-in-progress, including projects from Taika Waititi and Patty Jenkins. Most of those projects seem to still be in the works according to recent reports, but "The Mandalorian & Grogu" is set to head into production first with a summer shoot scheduled,...

A few months back, speculation buzzed about the continuation of Mando’s adventures in a feature film. Season 3 concluded with Moff Gideon apparently vanquished and Mando embracing Grogu as his ward and son, Din Grogu. Their apparent tranquility hints at the emergence of a new threat for Season 4.
Jon Favreau, the mastermind behind ‘The Mandalorian’ TV series, asserted that the script for Season 4 was already complete even before Season 3 concluded. However, recent indications suggest that the fourth season might not materialize after all.
Recently, confirmation emerged about an upcoming film centered on Mandalorian & Grogu. Directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni, this new project is set to commence filming in 2024.

The rumors that Mando’s adventures will continue as a movie were relevant several months ago. Season 3 wrapped up with Moff Gideon seemingly defeated for good and Mando officially adopting Grogu, making him his little apprentice and his son, Din Grogu. They seemed to find peace, which means a completely new threat ought to emerge for Season 4 to happen.
Jon Favreau – the creator of ‘The Mandalorian‘ TV series – claimed that the script for ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 4 was finished even before Season 3 officially ended, and now it seems that the fourth season might not even happen after all.
Some time ago it was confirmed that a movie focusing on Mandalorian & Grogu is in development. his new movie, directed by Jon Favreau and produced alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni, is scheduled to begin production in 2024.

The reigning Queen of Comic-Con and the ultimate science fiction superstar, Sigourney Weaver, might be gearing up to conquer yet another interstellar franchise.
Weaver is in talks to join the cast of the Star Wars film, “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” Variety has confirmed.
Earlier this year, Lucasfilm announced the standalone spinoff featuring Pedro Pascal as the stoic bounty hunter known as “The Mandalorian” (or Djarin to fans deep in the franchise) and his disarmingly charming puppet counterpart Grogru. Created by Jon Favreau for Disney+, the series followed the odd couple as they traipse across the galaxy far, far away avoiding the Empire and safeguarding the adorable green creature whilst forging a relationship for the ages. It’s part Western, part monster-of-the-week with delightful cameos from Star Wars universe legacy characters sprinkled in now and again.

It’s always been incredibly difficult to make a steady living in entertainment. This remains true to this day — as Hollywood weathers industry-wide contractions in the post-peak TV era, many gig workers, including producers, actors, and writers, are struggling to get by. In such a competitive industry, it’s easy to understand why people might jump at an invitation to work on major projects without taking a beat to vet the opportunities first.
In 2018, investigative journalist Scott Johnson at The Hollywood Reporter broke the unbelievable story of the “Hollywood Con Queen,” a scammer who allegedly targeted hundreds of entertainment industry gig workers for years. The Con Queen reportedly would impersonate high-profile, primarily female Hollywood executives and lure victims to Jakarta under the guise of working on major projects.

In “Hollywood Con Queen,” director Chris Smith chronicles one of Hollywood’s most audacious scams that involved an impostor who posed as top entertainment studio executives to swindle aspiring artists. Based on the original reporting of entertainment journalist Scott Johnson, and his book, “Hollywood Con Queen: The Hunt for an Evil Genius,” the three-part Apple TV+ docuseries features first-hand accounts and insights from Johnson, private investigator Nicole Kotsianas, the alleged con artist, Hargobind Tahilramani, and his victims.
In 2018, it was revealed that an imposter was posing as a variety of well-known female Hollywood executives and their assistants in a bid to lure victims out to Indonesia with the promise of work. Tahilramani became something of a media sensation when it emerged he had been impersonating women such as former Sony chief Amy Pascal, Marvel Studios executive VP Victoria Alonso and Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy, and NBCUniversal Studio Group chair and...

Pretty much every single movie that George Lucas helmed from his Star Wars lore has been received with the utmost critical commendation from fans and critics worldwide. Needless to say, the mastermind has been bold with his works to the core, without hesitating to deliver the perfect blow to the viewers. Perhaps this was exactly why he was skeptical about one film that opted otherwise.

But what’s surprising is that this one particular film was one that actually went on to set the records for being the highest-grossing movie of all time from the film franchise: The Force Awakens from 2015. And making everything even more complex was Lucas, who initially delivered thoroughly harsh criticism of the movie before landing his final verdict claiming that fans would actually ‘love it.’

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away began George Lucas’ epic space opera tale that eventually grew into the pop culture phenomenon we know today as Star Wars. The original trilogy of films Lucas made during the 70s and 80s, became beloved across the globe, but the theatrical cuts of the movies have neared the brink of extinction following Lucas’ special edition re-releases.
The altered ending scene from Return of the Jedi
As a result, a group of rebel Star Wars fans have taken it upon themselves to not only preserve but also digitally restore the original cuts so that the fanbase can enjoy the version of the films they first fell in love with. However, the group’s activities directly clash with Lucas’ vision for his franchise and border on a legal grey area. Here is why George Lucas won’t be happy with the rebel...

Lucasfilm released a new trailer for The Acolyte yesterday (see below) to mark this year's Star Wars Day celebrations, and a new poster for the next live-action Disney+ Star Wars series has now been unveiled at Ccxp Mexico.
Some fans on social media initially attempted to pass this off as our first look at Darth Plagueis, but a closer look (see the knives?) reveals that it's actually Amandla Stenberg's character, Mae.
Possible spoilers ahead.
Speaking of Master Sol's former apprentice, a rumor relating to this enigmatic Force-wielder has re-emerged with some additional details. According to Daniel Richtman, both Stenberg and Manny Jacinto will actually play dual roles as two pairs of twins - one good, one evil.

To mark this year's Star Wars Day celebrations, Lucasfilm has released a brand-new trailer and poster for its next live-action Disney+ Star Wars series, The Acolyte.
In addition to some exciting lightsaber action, the teaser reveals more story details, as Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) vows to bring his wayward former apprentice Mae (Amandla Stenberg) to justice.
Mae doesn't appear to be the only one taking down Jedi, however, as we also get a first proper look at the mysterious Sith villain who is behind the murders. His (her?) face is obscured (with a mask not too dissimilar to the ones Kylo Ren and his Knights wore in the sequel trilogy), which may indicate that this formidable warrior will ultimately be unveiled as an already established character.
"I really wanted to tell a story about the Sith," showrunner Leslye Headland tells EW. "That was...

With now just one month to go until Star Wars: The Acolyte premieres on Disney+, a new banner has surfaced (via SFFGazette.com) highlighting the show's leads...and potentially its mysterious villain!
Mae, Sol, Venestra, Jecki, Indara, Yord, Kelnacca and Mother Aniseya are among those featured, but to the right of Sol is a mysterious figure clad in all black and wielding the red lightsaber we're betting is the same one featured in the trailers. Could this be our first look at The Acolyte's Sith baddie?
It seems likely, particularly with a helmet that instantly brings up memories of Darth Vader and the Sith Inquisitors. In fact, on closer inspection, it almost seems to boast a toothy grin, a sign perhaps that whoever is beneath the mask has a monstrous side.
With this series playing out roughly 100 years before The Phantom Menace, this could be Darth Plagueis or even his Master,...
