The life that Diane von Furstenberg has lived is one of jet-setting romances, European aristocracy, Studio 54 conquests, gay lovers and tycoon successes that needs to be seen to be believed. The film festival premiere for her new biopic, “Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge,” offered a fleeting glimpse.
On Wednesday evening in New York City, “Woman in Charge,” opened the Tribeca Festival to a red carpet of European socialites, fashion luminaries and the same tall, beautiful, old-moneyed people who run around von Furstenberg’s biopic.
Candice Bergen was there. So was the Consulting General of Belgium in New York. You may have spotted executives from fashion brands like Neiman Marcus, David Yurman, Estée Lauder, Kering and many more. Karlie Kloss walked the red carpet, and the Greek Royal family made an appearance, including Marie Chantal, the Crown Princess of Greece, and Prince Achielieas-Andreas of Greece and Denmark.

Just After Dawn on the morning of May 15, 2019, more than a dozen cops arrived at a home in the placid suburb of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey. Armed with a search warrant, they ordered a member of the household to sit down and denied her access to her cellphone. Similar searches took place at other properties in Woodstock, New York, and Brooklyn. When it was over, according to court documents, the police left with cellphones, Usb drives, iPads, 1,300 pages of “physical documents,” four Apple MacBooks, and files filled with banking records.

Jason Momoa was recently cast in the hit sci-fi series Dune. But the fact that he’d gotten a spot in such a highly coveted movie gave Momoa a bit of imposter syndrome.
Jason Momoa felt like he took someone else’s job in the movie ‘Dune’ Jason Momoa | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Momoa was a part of an ensemble cast of actors who starred in the Denis Villeneuve film adaptation. But initially, he was just excited about working with Villeneuve himself, regardless of the movie. The actor recalled in an interview with IndieWire how he ended up cast as Duncan Idaho.
“I got a call from my agent literally on top of a mountain, and I was shocked, and he was like, ‘Denis Villeneuve wants to talk to you right now,'” Momoa recalled. “I thought it was a prank. He said, ‘He wants to talk to you right now.

An ever-upholding vanity project portrait of a dyed-in-the-annals sartorial icon, “Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge” is an engaging enough documentary for the small screen but not big enough to merit anything more. That’s appropriate, as the movie heads to Hulu two and a half weeks after its Tribeca Festival premiere in a New York theater. Directors Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Trish Dalton’s film is a hagiographic survey of the life and career of the Jewish girl born in Belgium who married into German royalty, became a princess, and started a fashion empire that included the invention of the now-ubiquitous wrap dress. With talking heads including Hillary Clinton and Oprah Winfrey, the documentary emerges more as agitprop for feminist galvanizing in the months up toward an election in which women’s rights are on the slab.
Though certainly spikier and with a zero-fucks-given, indecorous lack of platitudes is talking head Fran Lebowitz,...

The engaging Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge begins with a clip from David Letterman’s late-night show, where he introduces the designer with, “Welcome the woman who reinvented the dress.” He laughs and says, “Really? Reinvented the dress?” But that big claim isn’t entirely wrong. In the 1970s, von Furstenberg’s wrap dress was more than a trendsetter. Like the person who emerges in this largely first-person documentary, the dress became emblematic of a professional but sexy independent woman.
That much is history, retold by von Furstenberg in the film with wit and flair. The documentary’s strength, though, is its intimate look at her entire whirlwind life. The child of a Holocaust survivor, she became a jet-setter, a business tycoon and a philanthropist. She married a prince and then a mogul without ever losing her own identity.

The Rolling Stones brought out Tyler Childers in Orlando on Monday night, June 3, for a special performance of their Sticky Fingers classic “Dead Flowers.”
Childers upped the number of guitars onstage to at least four, strumming his acoustic guitar to match Mick Jagger’s while Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards (as always) traded licks on electric. Childers also split vocal duties with with Jagger and added an extra layer of harmony to the country-inspired tune.

In the early 1970s, a period marked by a surge in experimental cinema and the emergence of new cinematic voices, Chilean-French filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky embarked on an ambitious project that would challenge the conventions of traditional filmmaking. This was a time when filmmakers were pushing the boundaries of narrative and visual storytelling, experimenting with new techniques and themes. Jodorowsky, with his unique blend of surrealism and mysticism, was at the forefront of this movement. His goal was to adapt Frank Herbert’s iconic science fiction novel, Dune, into a film.
Jodorowsky is known for his avant-garde and surrealist style, which is evident in his body of work. In addition to his ambitions for Dune, he has directed several other films, each a testament to his unique artistic vision. These include El Topo (1970), a surreal western that is considered a classic of the acid western genre; The Holy Mountain (1973), a spiritual...

Paul McCartney strongly opposed Allen Klein as The Beatles’ manager, but John Lennon pushed hard to get him appointed. He was the first of the band to want to hire Klein and he was happy to see him become the manager. McCartney believed this had little to do with the vision Klein had for The Beatles and more with how he treated Yoko Ono.
Paul McCartney shared why John Lennon liked Allen Klein
When Lennon met Klein, he told the musician he supported Ono’s career. This won him Lennon’s backing.
“I always had the impression that Klein had got them to go with him because he was the only one who was ever sympathetic to Yoko,” McCartney said in the book All You Need Is Love: The Beatles in Their Own Words by Peter Brown and Steven Gaines. “Klein saw the Yoko connection and told Yoko that he...

Mick Jagger rarely releases music without The Rolling Stones. However, he once put out a song with the Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am and Jennifer Lopez. will.i.am explained why he was able to work with two massive stars on that song. The tune performed very differently in the United States and the United Kingdom.

will.i.am released an electro-rap song called “T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever).” During a 2011 interview with Rolling Stone, will.i.am said he thought it would be impossible to get the “Angie” singer on the song until he spoke to record executive Jimmy Iovine.
“I went to play material for the label and Jimmy Iovine’s like, ‘Yo, this is dope. Who are you gonna put on it?'” will.i.am said. “I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?...

Ayo Edebiri is calling rumors she was beefing with Jennifer Lopez “absurd” after a clip from a 2020 podcast surfaced in which The Bear star agreed with the host, saying J.Lo’s career was a “scam.”

“That would be like Mr. Bean and Mick Jagger beefing — and I’m obviously Mr. Bean. She’s J.Lo!” Edebiri told Vanity Fair.

Ayo Edebiri said during a new Vanity Fair cover story that Jennifer Lopez “was very chill and nice about it” when a potential online controversy threatened to derail their February episode of “Saturday Night Live.” Edebiri, coming off multiple award wins for “The Bear,” was the night’s host and Lopez was the musical guest amid the rollout for her album “This Is Me… Now.”
In the week leading up to the episode, a 2020 episode of the “Scam Goddess” podcast resurfaced on social media and went viral as it featured Edebiri speaking critically of Lopez. Responding to host Laci Mosley’s claim that Lopez’s “whole career is one long scam,” Edebiri responded: “Well, that’s the thing — she thinks she’s on multiple tracks, but it’s not her. I think she thinks that she’s still good, even though she’s not singing for most of these songs.

Documentary tells the melancholy story of the model and actor at the centre of the 60s music industry but also weirdly peripheral to it
Anita Pallenberg endured many things, including the condescension of being labelled “muse” to the Rolling Stones. She became the girlfriend of Brian Jones who abused her, married Keith Richards who neglected her and then co-starred in the movie Performance with Mick Jagger, who fell unrequitedly in love with her. Now this documentary tells Pallenberg’s strange, sad, melodramatic story, with Scarlett Johansson voicing Pallenberg’s memories from her unpublished autobiography entitled Black Magic, discovered in manuscript after her death in 2017.
Born to a wealthy, cultured German family in Rome, Pallenberg did a bit of modelling and was then discovered by director Volker Schlöndorff. After she played a few minor movie roles, including opposite Jane Fonda in Barbarella, Pallenberg was cast in another role by the Rolling...

The Rolling Stones invited Irma Thomas onstage to perform “Time is on My Side” together during their headlining set at New Orleans Jazz Fest on Thursday night.
Originally written by Jerry Ragavoy in 1963 and first recorded by trombonist Kai Winding, “Time is on My Side” was subsequently covered by Irma Thomas and then The Rolling Stones in 1964. It became a hit for both parties, and an early one at that for The Rolling Stones, who were just beginning to build a significant following. Their rendition at Jazz Fest last night was the first time they’d performed the track since 1998.

Over the past couple of decades, the Rolling Stones have looked for any reason to hit the road besides the release of a new album of original songs. They’ve launched tours celebrating their 50th anniversary, reissues of select archival records, the 2016 covers LP Blue & Lonesome, and their 60th anniversary. Some years they headed out on the stadium circuit for no particular reason whatsoever, knowing a Stones tour is a major event in and of itself.
But after a nearly two-year break from touring, the Stones emerged last year with the shockingly great Hackney Diamonds.

The Rolling Stones‘ self-titled debut album came out on April 16, 1964. Sixty years later, it’s still great rock ‘n’ roll! More than that, there’s a lot of interesting facts behind this impactful album. It also boasts one awesome collaboration.
The Rolling Stones barely wrote any of the album
The cornerstone of The Rolling Stones is the songwriting partnership of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Only one song from The Rolling Stones was credited to Jagger and Richards: “Tell Me (You’re Coming Back).” Most of the album is composed of covers, including songs by rock ‘n’ roll icons like Bo Diddley, Buddy Holly, and Chuck Berry, although two tracks are credited to “Nanker Phelge,” a collective pseudonym for the track.
While Jagger and Richards only penned one track for the record what a track it is. “Tell Me (You’re Coming Back)” is an impressive ballad that shows...

Today, The Rolling Stones‘ debut album turned 60. Hats off to Mick Jagger and company for staying together this long against all odds! Here’s a look at their debut album’s triumphs and tragedies.
13. ‘I Just Want to Make Love to You’
The lively rhythm here is ruined by some questionable lyrics. In this song, Jagger compares himself to an enslaved person. It’s tasteless, but what would you expect from the same band that would later give us such racist atrocities as “Brown Sugar” and “Some Girls?” At least this song didn’t hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 like “Brown Sugar” did.
12. ‘You Can Make It If You Try’
Placed near the end of the album, “You Can Make It If You Try” is a self-empowerment song that feels tedious and endless. The Rolling Stones made it. They tried. This song didn’t help them get there.

“Exterminate all the brutes!” With these words, borrowed from Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, Hunter S. Thompson concluded his violent, macabre 1967 book Hell’s Angels: A Strange and Terrible Saga. Thompson had spent months with the outlaw biker gang and ultimately paid for his persistence when members gave him a brutal beatdown (which, Thompson being Thompson, he seemed to enjoy just a little). The king of Gonzo had gotten closer to the Angels’ inner sanctum than just about anyone else had, a feat that the new A&e docuseries Secrets of the Hells Angels...

The Maroon 5 frontman made a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he said it was “really surreal” seeing the video that Jagger posted on Instagram in March.
“It’s just one of those things you’re like, ‘Oh my, like how is this possible? What is happening? It’s bizarre,'” Levine said.
In the social media video, The Rolling Stones lead singer appeared to be at a bar or restaurant when a band started to play a cover of “Moves Like Jagger,” leading the legendary musician to groove to the tunes. “Moves like who,” Jagger captioned the post, crediting the band named Splash for their rendition of the track.

The Beatles and The Rolling Stones were the two defining bands of the 1960s. Surely, any artist who split the difference between them would find an audience. A singer who saw himself as the middle ground between the two bands was big in the 1960s — but only in the 1960s.

The Beatles were the most popular and important act of the British Invasion, but no classic rock fan should ignore the achievements of Donovan. Notably, John Lennon was a big fan of one of Donovan’s songs, and he played it over and over. The “Hurdy Gurdy Man” singer revealed what he thought of John as a person. John felt that he and Donovan were on a similar wavelength.

Donovan is known for two types of songs: psychedelic ditties like “Mellow Yellow,” “Atlantis,” and “Sunshine Superman,” and folk tunes such as “Colours,” “Catch the Wind,” and “Universal Soldier.” A 2018 article from Goldmine says John was taken with Donovan’s folk song “Turquoise.” He had a vinyl copy of the song and played it repeatedly on a personal jukebox he brought with him on tour.

It’s been 13 years since Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera topped charts with “Moves Like Jagger,” and still nobody loves it more than Mick Jagger himself. On Wednesday, he posted an Instagram Reel of himself dancing to the song as played by a covers group in a bar with a decent crowd on the dance floor. Mick Jagger’s girlfriend once wrote a juicy memoir with many interesting anecdotes about classic rock stars from the Swinging ’60s. For example, she revealed what it was like hearing The Beatles’ “Strawberry Fields Forever” for the first time. She didn’t think it lived up to another song The Beatles released at the same time.
Mick Jagger’s girlfriend preferred The Beatles’ ‘Penny Lane’ to ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’
Marianne Faithfull was Jagger’s girlfriend. She had two hits in the United States: the Jagger/Keith Richards ballad “As Tears Go By” (which The Rolling Stones later recorded themselves) and a cover of The Beatles’ “Yesterday.” She’s far more prominent in her native United Kingdom.
In her 2007 book Memories, Dreams & Reflections, the “As Tears Go By” singer recalled meeting Paul for the first time. “He was just as the photographs,” she said. “Only he’d grown a mustache. His hair was shorter too.

While The Beatles and The Rolling Stones both led the charge during the British Invasion, they had wildly different public images. The Beatles and The Rolling Stones will be compared to each other until the planet Earth is destroyed and any extraterrestrial life will have no chance of knowing that rock ‘n’ roll ever existed. One of Mick Jagger’s girlfriends revealed what the frontman thought of The Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine.” John Lennon also had plenty to say about The Rolling Stones.
Mick Jagger felt The Beatles’ ‘Yellow Submarine’ was ‘silly’
Marianne Faithfull was Jagger’s girlfriend and muse in the 1960s. She’s most known for her solo ballad “As Tears Go By,” which Jagger co-wrote with Keith Richards. In her 2008 book Memories, Dreams & Reflections, Faithfull recalled the way that Jagger reacted to some of The Beatles’ songs.
“Mick might, very occasionally, put The Beatles down for their provincialism, which, if you’re from London and they’re from Liverpool, is a very natural reaction,” he said. “But he’d never put their music down.

Marianne Faithfull is a singer who served as a muse for The Rolling Stones‘ Mick Jagger. She said The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band is darker than it seems upon first listen. Notably, John Lennon was not the biggest fan of the record.

Faithfull is a singer most known for her hit “As Tears Go By” and her cover of The Beatles’ “Yesterday.” In her 2008 book Memories, Dreams & Recollections, the singer wrote about her feelings about the Fab Four. “Their sweetness is very superficial,” he said. “You hear the undercurrent in Paul’s bass playing, you hear it in John’s harmonies, you hear it in the call-and-response stuff. “Harry Potter” franchise professor Miriam Margolyes told News Corp Australia’s News.com.au that she was approached by Marvel to star in a project described to her as “a story about witches. But she ultimately turned it down due to its location, along with the fact that playing the Potter films’ Pomona Sprout had her reluctant to play in the magic world again. Given the timing and Marvel’s projects in development, it appears to be “WandaVision” spinoff miniseries “Agatha.”
The actress explained in the interview, published last year, that the show’s location was a problem for her. “I don’t like America and I didn’t want to be in Georgia for four months,” she said. “So I just said, ‘well, I want a million pounds’ and they said, ‘you can have half a million,’ and I said, ‘no, I don’t want to do it,’ so it just stopped.

Back in the 1990s, the Black Crowes blew up out of Atlanta, playing soulful, swaggering classic rock in an era of alt-rock irony and grunge bellyaching. In 1971, just six years after Frank Herbert published his groundbreaking science-fiction novel "Dune," Arthur P. Jacobs' Apjac International obtained the rights to the story for a film adaptation. The producer behind "Planet of the Apes" was ready to craft another world set in a distant future, but with the sequel film "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" on its way, "Dune" was delayed.
Jacobs went through a handful of different directors and screenwriters in early development, but he tragically passed away in 1973. David Lynch would eventually bring "Dune" to the big screen in 1984, but there were multiple failed attempts that paved the way for his film and a remake in his wake that led to Denis Villeneuve's recent adaptations. The messy histories of failed "Dune" adaptations could justify their own feature-length documentaries but allow this to be a crash course on the bizarre "Dune" movies that never came to be.

U2 wrapped the inaugural residency at Las Vegas’ $2.3 billion technical and visual marvel Sphere this weekend, closing out a 40-show run that started in September. Fittingly, the legendary band did so by bringing things full circle.
The shows commemorated one of U2’s most successful records, the chart-topping 1991 release Achtung Baby, played in its entirety with selected tracks from other U2 efforts over the years. To further honor the album, U2 bandmates Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Bram van den Berg (sitting in during the residency for an ailing Larry Mullen Jr.) welcomed Achtung Baby producer Daniel Lanois to the stage Saturday night to play guitar and sing backup on the track “One.”
“There would be no Achtung Baby without Daniel Lanois,” Bono said in welcoming him up the back stairs with a request to the audience. “Show him your light,” and they did by holding up smartphone flashbulbs in a beautiful scene.

The 1990s were full of top-notch science fiction films that won over critics and set the box office on fire -- after all, we're talking about a decade that produced "Independence Day" (which beat "Mars Attacks!" to theaters), "The Matrix" (albeit with some complex behind-the-scenes activity), "The Fifth Element" (ripping off Plato to great effect) and the list goes on and on. But not every sci-fi release can be a winner, and the decade also had its fair share of stinkers. Whether they were derivative of other (better) films, hacked to pieces as a result of studio interference, or let down by the limitations of 1990s technology, there are endless reasons why an ambitious science-fiction project might crash and burn.
However, many of these ambitious but panned sci-fi movies are often not without their redeeming factors, and despite their negative reception -- especially on Rotten Tomatoes -- you can often...

"Dune" brought us the pale and terrifying villains of House Harkonnen. The enormous, pale, floating Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård) leads the house that stands in stark opposition to House Atreides, putting him in direct conflict with the surviving Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), who is seeking to strike back in the wake of his father's death and the fall of his family's power.
