Dabney Coleman, the character actor who delighted audiences in films like 9 to 5, Dragnet, The Muppets Take Manhattan, Tootsie, WarGames, Cloak & Dagger, You’ve Got Mail, and the TV shows The Guardian and Boardwalk Empire, has died at 92. Surreal. That’s how Misan Harriman describes his first time at the Academy Awards earlier this year. Six years before, his wife had bought him a Fujifilm X100 for his 40th birthday and encouraged him to start taking pictures with it. Then there he was, surrounded by the global industry’s most overachieving, himself an Oscar-nominated director.
He had always loved film, having been raised on ’80s and ’90s cinema like The Lost Boys, Big Trouble in Little China and Stand By Me. He describes Home Alone, of all things, as “more than entertainment for troubled kids like me,” and will share his connection to the classic movie’s study of “trauma response” and the way it, and films like it, saved him. Born in Nigeria in 1977, Harriman was the only Black kid at his British boarding school. “With my kind of neurodiversity, I’m not supposed to be good at anything,...

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the new trailer and character posters for New Line Cinema’s Horizon: An American Saga, directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Kevin Costner. Horizon: An American Saga is a multi-faceted chronicle covering the Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West.
A story of Americana and patriotism too big for one film, this true cinematic event also stars Costner, who co-wrote the script with Jon Baird (The Explorers Guild) and produces through his Territory Pictures.
Warner Bros. Pictures will distribute two films in the saga this summer – the first on June 28, 2024, followed quickly by the second on August 16, 2024. The first film is rated R for violence, some nudity, and sexuality.
In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, Horizon: An American Saga explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won — and lost — through the blood, sweat, and tears of many.

Kevin Costner‘s two-part western epic passion project is just over the horizon. The first part of Horizon: An American Saga premieres next month and Warner Bros. has just released the new official second trailer for the film. The Yellowstone actor has returned to the director’s seat for the first time in over twenty years for these films. Costner began work on this story in 1988 and he has more movies planned. The main character that he invented for this film in 1988 was so important to him that he even named his son, Hayes, after him. He hopes the movies can be a big franchise and that years from now, people can binge-watch hours of Horizon in theaters.
In addition to directing and starring in the two-film saga, Kevin Costner also produced the project and co-wrote the script alongside Jon Baird. “In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns,...

The 20024 Cannes Film Festival is in full swing now, and it’s arguably been dominated by expensive passion projects that could be seen as vanity projects by their makers. The first one, Francis Ford Coppola’s long-awaited “Megalopolis,” landed yesterday to much consternation and mixed reviews; ours was positive, but still slightly baffled, and the film currently sits at 50% on Rotten Tomatoes. The next big self-financed project debuting soon on the Croisette is “Horizon: An American Saga,” an epic Western from writer/director and star Kevin Costner.

Yellowstone has been, for better or for worse, the most engaging show on television for the past few years, and Taylor Sheridanʼs intellectual property has given the audience a new format of entertainment far removed from the usual crime procedural and family sitcoms of the yesteryears.
Both contemporary and operatic in scale, Sheridanʼs series has only grown more beloved over the years with the Dutton clan parallelly spawning into an intergenerational story involving such parties such as Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, and potentially Matthew McConaughey in the near future.
Yellowstone [Credit: Paramount Network]As Kevin Costnerʼs original arc slowly recedes into the background and the behind-the-scenes drama keeps unfolding, the actorʼs relationship with the director gets increasingly unstable, worrying the fans about the closure of the series. As such, emotionally invested fans of the series have been bingeing Yellowstone to awaken past nostalgia and revisit their beloved characters one last time.

Kevin Costner’s abrupt exit from Yellowstone brought up his issues with creator Taylor Sheridan. His divorce from Christine Baumgartner also figured into the whole Yellowstone debacle. A similar conflict happened in Costner’s career almost three decades before his ongoing issue. At that time, Costner entered into a heated battle with the director of Waterworld and his close friend, Kevin Reynolds.

The conflict between the two led to Reynolds quitting the film before the completion of production of the film. The rest of the film was helmed by Costner, though Reynolds retained the director’s credit. Kevin Costner’s two-part Western epic “Horizon: An American Saga,” which makes its world premiere in the Out of Competition section of the Cannes Film Festival, has been acquired in France by Metropolitan FilmExport, one of the country’s biggest distributors. Daniel Baur’s K5 Intl. is handling international rights.
The films star Costner, Sienna Miller, Abbey Lee and Sam Worthington. The writers are Jon Baird and Costner. Costner produced alongside Howard Kaplan and Mark Gillard. Warner Bros. is releasing the films in the U.S. on June 28 and Aug. 16.
“Horizon” takes place over the course of 15 years on America’s Western frontier, dramatizing the lives of settlers and Indigenous groups in the region. Costner shared footage from the project at CinemaCon last month.

Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga is poised to become the biggest Western movie of 2024. For decades, Costner has been known for his immense love for Westerns. This is on the heels of the highly successful neo-Western drama series Yellowstone, where Costner led the cast as John Dutton. Although the genre had suffered popularity at the end of the 20th century, a recent wave of these neo-Westerns is helping to raise a new generation of audiences. From the casting, runtime, and production budget, Horizon: An American Saga is being positioned to be one of the greatest Western movies of

All the Yellowstone fans are waiting now until the last part of the final season of today’s most popular western series is finally out. There have been so many speculations on whatever is going to happen to the series regulars and what fate will face the infamous ranch.
For example, fans have been predicting the fall of the Dutton family headmaster, not only because it seems like a right thing to go with, but also because we know Kevin Costner will not be the part of the last episodes.
But rumor has it that Beth Dutton will be there, portrayed still by Kelly Reilly. The actress has been playing the part of Beth since the show premiered in 2018 and since then became the only character that awakens all sorts of emotions in fans, being this unstable master manipulator slash still lovable girlboss.

As one of the biggest TV show sensations, Yellowstone took a serious hit when its lead star Kevin Costner left. For over a year, we were led to believe that Costner stepped over his contract and put his upcoming Horizon movies over the hit series — but now, the Western star shares his side of the story… And it’s wildly different from what we’ve been getting from the other side all these months.
Costner Didn’t Drop Yellowstone for Horizon
Recently, Kevin Costner sat down with Deadline at the Cannes Film Festival and talked about Horizon and Yellowstone. For the first time in many months, the actor commented on the drama surrounding his hit series, and according to him, he didn’t deserve the backlash he’d got. Costner didn’t sacrifice Yellowstone at any point.
“I fit [Horizon] into the [Yellowstone production] gaps. They just kept moving their gaps.

We've been hearing for years about the death of DVD and Blu-ray. The physical media market is not what it once was, with hardcore collectors driving new business and impressive new 4K releases of classics and new movies aimed at a small but loyal section of consumers. Sales of DVD and Blu-ray discs were down 25% in 2023, even though home entertainment -- driven in large part by VOD -- was up 16.8% to $43 billion. Heck, even Disney is shutting down the Disney Movie Club this year while handing its physical media business to Sony. But the death of DVD has been greatly exaggerated, at least according to Oscar-winning "Dances With Wolves" director Kevin Costner.

CNN aims to return to the recipe that gave its viewers explorers of international cuisine such as Anthony Bourdain and Stanley Tucci.
After announcing in October of 2022 that the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed outlet would pull back on the efforts that made it a name in original documentary series and films — ostensibly to cut costs at a time when its corporate parent was grappling with significant debt — CNN wants to get back into the business of developing original non-fiction series and movies.
“I think we are very much in the rebuild phase,” Amy Entelis, executive vice president for talent and content, tells Variety during a recent interview.
Mark Thompson, named in August to oversee CNN following a tumultuous run under predecessor Chris Licht, has articulated a strategy of building out new areas and verticals that can help the company win more customers and viewers. Original series would seem to be one of them.

As he promotes his new film, Horizon, Kevin Costner has come out fighting for physical media, declaring DVD not dead.
With his new film, Horizon: An American Saga – Part 1 debuting at the Cannes Film Festival shortly, Kevin Costner has given a lengthy interview to Deadline, where he’s been talking about the road to making the movie. In it, there’s quite a lot of discussion about the moviemaking ecosystem in which he’s put the project together, and a chat over the path to the film making money.
The interviewer puts to Costner towards the end of the conversation that “the death of DVD” – news to us who still avidly collect physical media – is a problem. Kevin Costner? He’s having none of it, and launches a staunch defence of discs. “Death of the what?”, Costner retorts. “DVD is not dead, at all. That’s what they’d have...

Kevin Costner, 69, has broken his silence about the speculation around his rumored feud with Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan and his departure from the hit show in its fifth and final season. Sheridan publicly stated that he was “disappointed” with Costner’s exit.
Costner addressed the behind-the-scenes conflicts on the Paramount ranch drama and set the record straight in a new interview.
Costner emphasized that Yellowstone was of utmost importance to him. “If you know me well enough, I made Yellowstone the first priority, and to insinuate anything else would be wrong,” he told Deadline. “I did not initiate any of those things. They did.”

The Cannes Film Festival red carpet is notoriously strict about its black-tie dress code (one man in a blue tuxedo who committed the fashion travesty of wearing white socks was almost turned away). But on Tuesday night, France welcomed a national hero to the opening night of the 77th edition — Messi, the four-legged scene-stealer from last year’s Palme d’Or winner “Anatomy of a Fall.”
The canine phenom helped brighten things up even as dark clouds gathered over the Palais des Festivals, site of Cannes’ biggest premieres. Despite the foreboding weather and light drizzle, Lily Gladstone, Greta Gerwig, Omar Sy, Jane Fonda, Juliette Binoche and other stars added some glamour and sparkle to the evening.

Kevin Costner would often like to imagine himself as a one-man army, if possible, who is capable of handling almost every single hurdle and blockade thrown in his direction with utmost precision and decisiveness. This character trait may also be the reason why the Hollywood actor makes choices bold enough to surpass even Quentin Tarantino when it comes to sequel treatment in films.

The 2024 Cannes Film Festival may be lighter on glitz and glamour than in years past, but that means arthouse and international fare from emerging and established filmmakers will get a chance to shine. Still, at least two American auteurs, Francis Ford Coppola (“Megalopolis”) and Paul Schrader, have films in the main competition for the first time in decades. David Cronenberg (“The Shrouds”) and Yorgos Lanthimos (“Kinds of Kindness”) are also back at the festival, with both making personal stories in their own way: Cronenberg, here, reckons with grief over the death of his wife seven years ago, while Lanthimos appears to retreat back into “Dogtooth” territory in a film that’s almost a rebuke of the global success he’s acquired with “Poor Things” and “The Favourite.”
Sean Baker, Andrea Arnold, Ali Abbasi, Jia Zhangke, Karim Aïnouz, and Paolo Sorrentino are also back at Cannes this year with new films in the competition.

Kevin Costner’s career arc has led him from the dredges of the ’80s to the highest peak in the present. His journey from Malibu Hot Summer (1981) to becoming the star of the biggest television show, Yellowstone, to breaking the internet with his self-financed American Western, Horizon: An American Saga, it has simply been one news-making moment after another for Costner.
However, the movie star-turned-director’s passion project would have meant nothing if not for Taylor Sheridan’s mega-successful Paramount show. Costner investing a portion of Yellowstone’s salary alongside putting his Napa Valley property up as collateral puts him at a similar mad-genius spectrum as Francis Ford Coppola when it comes to making one’s passion projects come true.

As Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga gears up for its world premiere later this month, in a recent interview with The Telegraph, director George Miller reflected on the feud between stars of his first movie, Mad Max Fury Road, Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron.
George Miller’s Furiosa was critically hailed after the movie’s Australian premiere this week. The film, released a decade after 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road’s massive success, is a prequel to the post-apocalyptic franchise. Furiosa stars Anya Taylor-Joy in the lead with Chris Hemsworth costarring in a villainous role.
Despite the success, the franchise has been marred by reports of a notorious on-set feud between the stars of the first movie, Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy.

Kevin Costner Slams Yellowstone Producers ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Kevin Costner is finally breaking his silence on the Yellowstone contract dispute that led to his premature exit from the hit Paramount Western Drama. The 69-year-old’s shocking exit from the biggest show on Paramount Network dominated headlines last year after reports surfaced. Costner was walking out following a dispute over the shooting schedule with the producers. Shortly after, showrunner Taylor Sheridan announced that the series would end with Season 5, split into two parts.
Kevin Costner has remained tight-lipped about the dispute save for a few comments earlier this year where, to fans’ delight, he expressed interest in returning for a potential season 6. As he prepares to premiere the first part of his western epic Horizon: An American Saga at Cannes, Costner, in an interview with Deadline, provided a detailed account of what went down with the show’s producers, including Taylor Sheridan.

After years of starring as the iconic head of the Dutton family, i.e. John Dutton in Yellowstone, Kevin Costner has left the fan-favorite show, though it wasn’t without much drama intervening in between. However, this twisted tale is even more complex than Taylor Sheridan’s saga, considering how it has taken yet another surprising turn about whom to blame for his exit.

Stunningly enough, as compared to all the other reasons that stated that a feud ensuing between him and Sheridan was the real reason why he left, this time, Costner has set the record straight through one statement that has inevitably implied that the mastermind showrunner Sheridan is actually not the one to blame for his exit, but rather the studios are.

When Aubrey Plaza first got the call about her role in Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis, she’d literally just stocked up on Godfather-themed keychains and lighters from an actual Godfather gift shop. It should be noted she was not obsessively combing eBay for insane fan memorabilia. In fact, there was a legitimate reason for her purchases: she just happened to be in Taormina, Sicily — the home of The Godfather, if you will — where it was partly shot. And of course there’s a gift shop.
Plaza was, at the time, taking her turn as the maritally-challenged Harper in the second season of the HBO hit series The White Lotus — a role for which she was individually Emmy and Golden Globe nominated. And, when she heard that Coppola wanted to get on Zoom with her, she was also staying in the San Domenico hotel, his old home-from-home during The Godfather shoot.

Horizon: An American Saga will mark Kevin Costner‘s first return to the director’s chair since 2003’s Open Range. He made his directorial debut in 1990 with the Oscar-winning Western movie, Dances with Wolves. Since then, he has continued to diversify, taking on a wide array of roles. However, to many, he is synonymous with the Western genre – something he is clearly capitalizing on with Horizon: An American Saga. We’re big champions of physical media here at JoBlo, and despite ongoing claims that it will soon be going the way of the Dodo, we’ve yet to see its demise. Kevin Costner is also a big fan of physical media, and when asked by Deadline about the supposed “death of the DVD,” he was quick to jump to its defence.
“Death of the what? DVD is not dead, at all,” Kevin Costner said. “That’s what they’d have you believe. Maybe it’s not making the same amount of money, but just try to go ask for that from the studio. They won’t give that up. A lot of people that like my movies, they can’t get to a theater, and they’re waiting for that moment. You can’t make your film for the opening weekend. You have to make it for its life.

As he prepares to premiere the first part of his western epic Horizon: An American Saga at Cannes, however, the actor and filmmaker is offering a much more detailed account of his side of the dispute with Yellowstone’s producers, including showrunner Taylor Sheridan.
“I haven’t felt good about it the last year, what with the way they’ve talked about it. It wasn’t truthful. So now I’m talking about a little bit about what the real truth of it was,” Costner said in a lengthy interview with Deadline. “I made a contract for seasons five,...

For well over a year, Kevin Costner and the producers of “Yellowstone” have been at a stalemate about Costner returning to the top-rated drama on all of cable. Anonymous sources on the producers’ side have blamed Costner for the hold-up, accusing him of bailing on “Yellowstone” so he could make his passion project, the Western film series “Horizon.”
Now, with the Cannes premiere of “Horizon” imminent, Costner has given his side of the story about what happened with “Yellowstone” in the greatest detail he has yet shared.
In a new interview with Deadline, Costner said that mismanagement from Paramount and production company 101 Studios is to blame for the chaos around Season 5B, which has been delayed since early 2023. After Season 4, he signed on for three more seasons, but then the producers kept renegotiating contracts and changing schedules, which frustrated him Costner said. He added that he was willing to...

It’s been almost a year and a half since “Yellowstone” fans have been able to watch a new episode of Taylor Sheridan’s neo-Western family drama. And in the time since, a lot of the blame for the delay has been heaped upon the show’s lead, Kevin Costner.
When the show returned for Season 5 in 2022, it was announced that the season would be split in two and labeled 5A and 5B. But despite the initial batch airing in November 2022, the second half still has yet to be filmed. Once Costner began production on his own Western opus “Horizon: An American Saga,” the prospect of him returning to finish the series became more and more tenuous and rumors began to circulate about the show’s fate. Speculation ranged from Matthew McConaughey potentially taking over as a new lead to Costner only being willing to commit to one week of...

As Yellowstone trots towards its final episodes, there is still a ranch full of unanswered questions. Near the top of that list is, Will Kevin Costner be returning? In a (terrific) interview with Deadline in the lead-up to the premiere of his passion project, Horizon, at Cannes, Costner seemed to put a definitive answer to speculation. He says, “Well, I haven’t felt good about it the last year, what with the way they’ve talked about it. It wasn’t truthful. So now I’m talking about a little bit about what the real truth of it was. I made a contract for seasons five, six and seven. In February, after a two- or three-month negotiation, they made another contract. They wanted to redo that one, and instead of seasons six and seven, it was 5A and 5B, and maybe we’ll do six. They weren’t able to make those.
