Kevin Costner said during an interview on Dax Shepard’s ‘Armchair Expert’ podcast (via Entertainment Weekly) that he refused a request to shorten his eulogy for Whitney Houston just so television networks like CNN could air commercials during the live broadcast of Houston’s funeral. Costner and Houston became lifelong friends after starring together in the 1992 romance blockbuster “The Bodyguard.” Costner was one of eight people who spoke at Houston’s funeral in 2012.
“I had been working on this speech…and I tried to compile everything I wanted to do and finally crafted this speech,” Costner said. “Somebody said, ‘CNN’s here, they wouldn’t mind if your remarks were kept shorter because they’re going to have commercials.’ And I said, ‘They can get over that. They can play the commercial while I’m talking, I don’t care.'”

Academy Award-winning visionary filmmaker Kevin Costner directs New Line Cinema’s vast Horizon: An American Saga Chapters One and Two, a multi-faceted chronicle covering the Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. A story of America too big for one film, this true cinematic event also stars Costner, who co-writes with Jon Baird (The Explorers Guild) and produces through his Territory Pictures.
In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, Horizon: An American Saga explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won—and lost—through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.

Not many fans are aware of the treacherous ongoing behind the curtains of Hollywood’s glamorous lifestyle. But the little that does get out becomes colored by rumors, allegations, and whatnot to make the news of the hour seem more saucy. Kevin Costner, for one, has been the hottest topic around for the past year following his exit from Yellowstone, the biggest TV show of the modern era.

Hollywood, for the past seven years since 2018, has been seduced by Taylor Sheridan’s unbridled and unyielding talent for crafting worlds of greed, power, the Wild West, and neo-noir crime capers. Among the numerous players also lies Jeremy Renner, the Marvel superhero who recently proved his lack of powers on-screen is a poor testament to his real-life powers in the wake of his accident.

The volatile world of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone has left its audience twisting and turning over what new surprise lurks in the shadows. Every season arrives with an overstuffed burden of family drama and brutal politics that never fail to entertain or enslave the viewers to an adrenaline-driven rollercoaster. But all of it would have never seen the light of day considering the rocky start that the creator had during his initial pitch at HBO.
Yellowstone [Credit: Paramount Network]Fortunately, an act of good faith on the part of an executive who believed in his vision set the director down the path of getting Yellowstone to where it is now. Although very few artists have the luxury of enjoying a smooth sailing ride to greatness in their prime, Sheridan proved how sheer will and a stroke of good timing can help achieve one’s dreams, however rough the journey may be.

Whatcha gonna do when “Bad Boys” comes for the box office? If you’re a theater owner, the answer is hopefully sell some tickets.
Sony’s “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” the fourth installment in the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence-led buddy cop series, is targeting $30 million to $50 million from 3,850 theaters in its first weekend of release. As that cavernous range suggests, estimates vary greatly depending on whom you ask. Sony has offered the soft $30 million figure, while rivals and independent tracking services believe the $45 million to $50 million range is more likely.
Adding to opening-weekend ambiguity: The sequel to 1995’s “Bad Boys,” 2003’s “Bad Boys II” and 2020’s “Bad Boys for Life” is Smith’s first major film to grace the big screen since he assaulted Chris Rock onstage at the 2022 Oscars. Have audiences soured on Smith or will they forgive and forget in favor of another “Bad Boys” reunion?...

Steven Spielberg has been one of the most prolific filmmakers in Hollywood since the 70s. The director has tackled every genre and has shown that he can confidently execute them with conviction. It’s hard to believe that such diverse films like E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, The Color Purple Jaws, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, and Minority Report came from one filmmaker.

It is safe to say that Kevin Costner’s John Dutton is the reason Yellowstone exists. As far as these TV drama characters go, he is one of the last true men, which is why we like him. This wealthy rancher often finds himself in a difficult situation when several greedy people pursue him and attempt to take his land.

Taylor Sheridan may be one of the greatest writer-cum-directors in Hollywood’s entire entertainment industry, but it’s not always that he gets to have his way with his projects.
In fact, if anything, one of the biggest issues on which he has often locked horns with marketers is on the titles his projects are gonna be known by at the end of the day.

That being said, his request was even refused when he asked for his film to be renamed as per his choice as opposed to what it came to be known as, which was Sicario: Day of the Soldado.
But it seems that those days just might change for Sheridan now, especially after all the fame he has acquired through his genius helming of the masterpiece smash-hit series Yellowstone.

Kevin Costner ignored calls to make 'Horizon: An American Saga' a TV series as he treasures the big screen "experience".The first two chapters in the Oscar-winning star's Western epic will be released this summer (with two more to follow in the future) and Kevin explained that he has taken a gamble by releasing the saga in cinemas.Speaking to Empire magazine, he said: "I had somebody who said, 'Look, please don't do this, Kevin, let's do this.'"But I'm glad about what I'm doing. I believe in the big screen. I believe in that experience. I also believe in what will come to your television. You know, I'm not one of those guys that has a director's cut. Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone counts among the rare few projects in Hollywood that have managed to not only garner love and respect among fans and critics but also shock and awe among industry experts for its sheer scale of storytelling. For decades, Kevin Costner was an icon of the big screen – leading seismic cinematic feats like The Untouchables, Dances With Wolves, JFK, and Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves. More recently, though, he became a leading force in the 21st century small-screen landscape as the figurehead of the Yellowstone empire. But make no mistake: his allegiance is to cinema. And he’s quite literally putting his money where his mouth is, conjuring up a multi-part Western epic on the big screen. Get ready for Horizon: An American Saga, whose first two three-hour chapters hit the big screen this summer, soon to be followed by more instalments, and for which Costner contributed roughly $58 million of his own cash.
It is an absolutely gigantic gambit. But for Costner, going all-in on the power of cinema was part of the point – hence why he turned down the idea to make Horizon a streaming series.

Not just that, the 1975 flick clinched three Academy Awards, setting a precedent for the summer releases we eagerly anticipate each year.

Though his ingeniously developed storylines and character arcs are one thing, what further sets him apart from nearly all the other mastermind legendary filmmakers and showrunners in Hollywood’s entire entertainment industry are his immaculate convincing skills.

But surprisingly enough, Renner never wanted to take on the script because he was tired of playing a superhero for years.
In fact, had it not been for Sheridan’s genius operating tactics and convincing tricks, the MCU star just may have never signed on!

Have you ever wondered what it takes to forge unbreakable loyalty on the sweeping landscapes of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch? The answer lies within a searing moment of commitment forever etched into the skin of the ranch’s most dedicated wranglers: the ‘Y’ brand. Yellowstone’s branding campaign involves pressing a real branding iron, shaped like the Dutton Ranch logo, into the skin of a dedicated ranch hand by heating it over a flame.
This momentous occasion serves as a sharp reminder of just how difficult life can be on the Yellowstone Ranch. Can you imagine what the Duttons do to their enemies if that is how they handle their friends?

But in one particular episode, the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, went above and beyond by showing the viewers how Jimmy Hurdstram—portrayed by the exceptional Jefferson White—came to be known.

Kevin Costner’s hugely ambitious western movie series Horizon – An American Saga still needs more money to get the last two films shot.
We’re just over three weeks away from the release of Kevin Costner’s passionate project – or at least the first part of it – Horizon: An American Saga – Part 1. This is Costner’s return to the director’s chair for the first time since Open Range over 20 years ago, in a project that he’s conceived, co-written, and takes the lead role in.
Already pretty much complete is Horizon: An American Saga – Part 2. But Costner has envisaged this as a four part movie series, and once he’d completed some promotional work for the first movie, he was off to Utah to start filming the rest of the saga.
Still, these films aren’t cheap, and while Costner has put a fair amount of his own funds into them,...

Poor William Bonney is facing an uphill battle in the Lincoln County War.
That continued to be made abundantly clear on Billy the Kid Season 2 Episode 5.
It's Billy and a handful of good-hearted ranchers and farmers who are up against the greedy and corrupt in Lincoln and New Mexico in general.
It doesn't seem fair, does it?
Billy's supporters can't catch a break.
For example, take the Regulators' encounter with "Buckshot" Roberts.
Granted, Buckspot is a sharpshooter, but he's not the sharpest tool in the shed, as he proved in his demise.
Horizon: An American Saga: Release Date, Cast, Trailer and Everything We Know About Kevin Costner's Western Epic
Yet somehow, he doggedly, if drunkenly, tracked Billy through the wilderness and rode right into the Regulators' camp, with no one stopping this apparent threat.
There was Buckshot against eight to ten Regulators, and still, he shot four of them...

For his fourth outing as a director Kevin Costner gets back in the saddle for another exploration of America’s roots, already visited in Dances With Wolves and Open Range.
Clearly this is a passion project which at more than three hours’ running time may just test the patience of some of the audience. It has all the hallmarks of a production destined for a television mini-series with apparently three other chapters promised by Costner.
Set in 1859 the narrative covers the territories that extend from Wyoming to Kansas, focusing on the violence that flares between the settlers and the indigenous tribes.
For anyone starved of what used to be a Hollywood staple genre Costner delivers many of the traditional ingredients with stunning landscapes, colourful characters including the man himself as a grumpy horse trader although he doesn’t appear until about an hour in.
Horizon is a settlement which only is beginning to take faltering.

Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone has been a primary player in the television frontier for quite some time now. The drama of cowboys, ranchers, politicians, lawyers, and Native Americans, with generations of simmering tension between them has found a strong foothold in the industry as viewers flock to the screens to witness Sheridan’s mastery at work.
Yellowstone [Credit: Paramount Network]However, recent developments at Paramount with Kevin Costner have put a halt to their smooth sailing operation. With Yellowstone now facing its end and characters and plotlines heading toward a swift conclusion, the show’s creator has now been tasked with finding a greener pasture for the Dutton family, and if rumors are to be believed, it will have Matthew McConaughey or Michelle Pfeiffer’s in the mix.

While the Marvel side of things struggles to hold on to a strong footing, Disney can go back to developing other franchises in the superhero genre. One of the films that the studio can revive as a major franchise would be the 2005 film, Sky High. It was directed by Kung Fu Panda 4 director Mike Mitchell and starred Michael Angarano and The Flash star Danielle Panabaker in the lead roles.

Mitchell revealed that Disney had plans to develop a sequel film and a spin-off series in the Sky High universe earlier. He even fleshed out concepts for a sequel and shared that he was still interested in working on the project.

Taylor Sheridan may not have much to offer in terms of acting experience but when it comes to crafting masterpieces from words, he may as well be the Picasso of television. With a perception of human complexities and an understanding of the nature of human psychology, Sheridan has woven together an oeuvre of films and TV series unparalleled in their sheer scale and gravity.

Filmmaker Steven Spielberg has helmed many iconic films of the generation. He is the man behind films such as the Indiana Jones franchise, Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, and Schindler’s List. The two-time Oscar nominee has also been vocal about his favorite films and has always considered himself to be a lover of cinema first.
The director has appreciated others’ cinema on multiple occasions. He called Tom Cruise the savior of cinema for his contributions to the theater industry during the pandemic. One film that Spielberg loved, but was still disturbed by, was reportedly Taylor Sheridan’s directorial debut Wind River, which he reportedly saw after its screening at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Mad Max franchise is unarguably one of the most popular action franchises of all time, created by mastermind George Miller. While the star power connected to it — which includes notable names like Charlize Theron, Tom Hardy, and Mel Gibson — is one factor behind its epic success, its breathtaking action sequences and stunt scenes further set the saga apart from every other.

The love towards westerns is easily understandable: which other genre can give us so many different stories at the same time? There’s always a pride and honor plotline, a romantic story, some family drama, and of course good-old fight scenes in a picturesque landscape.
For many years after the golden era with Wayne and Eastwood the role of an iconic western leading man went to Kevin Costner, especially amid the tremendous success of the Yellowstone series.
But we think it's only fair to mention another brilliant western performance by another A-list actor, Pierce Brosnan. The former James Bond and Mamma Mia star actually made quite an impression as Eli McCullough, the greedy Texas oil tycoon in a western series called The Son.
The Son is a multigenerational epic that tells the story of Eli’s life from his complicated childhood to the times when he becomes a father of the family.

While most know Kevin Costner for all the masterpieces he has led to date which include credits like Yellowstone and Dances with Wolves, not many know that the actor cum producer has led some epically disastrous projects as well. And while these projects didn’t necessarily drown because of his acting, one of them did, in fact, end up in the dump because of its bloated budget.

This dates back to the 1990s, when having budgets for a project in tens of millions was already considered high, let alone one in hundreds of millions, like Waterworld, which was, pretty much, one of the biggest disasters in Hollywood. The reason behind this was Costner himself, who ended up shooting up the budget by a whopping 35 times than what was required!
